Phil Spencer has teased Microsoft’s plan to release Xbox games on Nintendo Switch 2, reinforcing recent reports that indicate the company is set to back the next-gen console in a big way.
Opinion | For once I'm glad Nintendo is stuck in the past

The Switch 2 reveal on Thursday didn't tell us much, but the one thing Nintendo was quite particular about showing was the suite of I/O options on the console. I'm pleased to see we're getting an extra USB-C port, but nothing could compare with the joy of seeing a real, proper headphone jack highlighted so prominently in a 2025 hardware reveal.
Headphone jacks still prominently feature in many of the best gaming handhelds, including modern devices like the Steam Deck OLED, as well as standard PS5 and Xbox Series controllers. But ever since 2016, when Apple declared its own "courage to move on" from analog audio output in favor of Bluetooth, I've been increasingly nervous that other tech companies would start to crawl in the same direction.
I've been meaning to cancel online for two years. Went on the web site tonight and spent 30 minutes trying to turn this off. The cancel link takes me to a page with two sections, one where I can apparently buy vouchers (whatever they are) and the other just says I have a subscription. No option to turn off auto renewal. Talk about dark patterns. Any suggestions?
Edit: OK, whew. Took me two hours but I finally got it. Had to do it on the eShop on the Switch, which I didn't want to do because I knew I'd have to put in my new WiFi password and then run updates before it'd let me do anything.

One of the more prominent leakers of Nintendo Switch 2 information was NextHandheld who has recently doubled down on the newly announced platform’s Joy-Con controller having Hall Effect joysticks. NextHandheld says that this is evident in a system teardown. One of the biggest issues with the original Joy-Con controllers was the prominence of stick drift, which Nintendo was forced to admit is an issue with the system. Nintendo has yet to specify whether the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons feature Hall Effect joysticks, but when we eventually hear, we will let you know. If you are curious about Hall Effect joysticks then there’s a good explanation about them on Windows Central, which you can read below.
Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal felt like a lightning bolt delivered straight from Zeus himself for everyone except, well, most people. In fact, since the console – which fans have spent years clamoring for – looks so much like its predecessor, some analysts predict it'll have trouble appealing to a general audience.
"I can imagine 'normies' being a bit confused," gaming industry consultant Serkan Toto tells GamesRadar+. "The device is bigger than the original Switch, but not comically large. The form factor, button layout, and overall design are very similar to Switch 1, so I can imagine issues arising when potential mainstream buyers look at the new device."
Growing up with the 3DS and Wii U I really miss those times of the highly immersive systems. For me this was what made Nintendo so great.
I know that nowadays everything seems to be optimized for efficiency and practicality in this highly connected world where everyone has a smartphone and is seeking this quick pleasure.
But I'm craving these small things that made life so great. I miss these times so much of collecting StreetPass points, finding strangers Mii's in Mii Plaza when going to a mall or connecting with friends, having all these mini games like Camera, AR games and even the immersive Mii makers where I spend hours creating Mii's and watching them walking around. And of course, the customizable home menu with music and all these responsive animations.
It was like there was an entire world inside the 3DS and [Wii U that could suck you in where you could spend your lifetime in without a sense of time and it was amazing. It gave you a home environment where you could feel com
The Guilty Gear Strive: Nintendo Switch Edition includes all content up to Season 3.
Guilty Gear Strive has been on the market for nearly four years, first launching for PS4, PS5, and PC in 2021. Fast forward to 2025, and the fighting game is finally receiving a Nintendo Switch port in just a few days on January 23, and preorders for Guilty Gear Strive: Nintendo Switch Edition are available now.
Got pretty close to the finishing Astral Chain, just 2 levels remaining. Nothing new to add though.
Finished Nier Replicant , well, at least got the first ending, Ending A. Now playing for Ending B, stopped at the front of last dungeon, so should finish this over the weekend. Then comes Ending C, Ending D and Ending E.
Generally I don't playthrough the game again and again, but I am interested in seeing how they unfold the story, and since I am only doing the main quest in this playthrough it was pretty quick. There are still many questions, but the second playthrough is explaining a few things (and making us feel bad about some things).
So, what about all you? What have you been playing?
