I'm sure the appeal was delivered before the ink was even dry on this verdict. (was this in the state Supreme Court?)
Yes it was in the NYS Supreme Court but unlike the federal courts, it's not the highest court in NYS. Court of Appeals, where this case will most likey go as you said, is higher and effectively the "supreme court".
Yeah rule of law is the worst
