Many women who work at McMurdo Station, the main United States research base in Antarctica, say the isolated environment and macho culture have allowed sexual harassment and assault to flourish.
The National Science Foundation, the federal agency that oversees the U.S. Antarctic Program, published a report in 2022 in which 59% of women said they’d experienced harassment or assault while on the ice, and 72% of women said such behavior was a problem in Antarctica.
But the problem goes beyond the harassment, The Associated Press found. In reviewing court records and internal communications, and in interviews with more than a dozen current and former employees, the AP uncovered a pattern of women who said their claims of harassment or assault were minimized by their employers, often leading to them or others being put in further danger.
If I were a woman in the uk and I was told I'm not allowed to use a gun to protect myself from a rapist because it happens less than in the US, that's not going to make me feel any better. It still happens.
If what's the case? If my personal feelings on the matter are the case? They are the case, it makes no difference that there's not a big push in the uk for women to have guns, I feel this way because I feel this way.

oh you sweet summer child. i really do hope you never have to experience a traumatic event first hand. however, some of us have. and what really makes it worse is that those who haven't been made a victim just spout how its not that bad for them because their own lives haven't suffered through it, and it wont make sense to those people until it happens to them and that...that's the really sad part. victim blaming. UK and Australia have just as bad rape problems as anywhere else in this world. im just struggling to find out why you want everyone to trust their safety to ths 'social contract' which is a layer of air and that's it.
If UK and Australia have just as bad rape problems as the rest of the world and the rest of the world includes the U.S., where lots of women own guns, that doesn't sound like a solution.
If only there were lots of non-lethal things that would stop an attacker. Nope. People can only protect themselves with guns and absolutely nothing else in the world.
lol sure. make your echo chamber smaller. when you over specialize you breed in weakness. there is always more than one way to look at a scenario and your gut jump to block means you don't value differing opinions...and thats sad
