Graphene Permissions Question

I recently installed graphene on a new to me phone. I am attempting to use a product called SMS Backup and Restore to more some things over from my old phone, but cannot do so because it needs to be set as a default app and my phone denies that. Warning photo attached.

I poked around in Matrix but didn't see any mention of this but am pretty unfamiliar with how to use Matrix.

Any graphene users have advice? It seems like it must be so simple and the graphene and other forums mention using this software. I have allowed all visible permissions for now, and all seeming relevant ones for the google support programs.

  • What does clicking on the Learn more page show? Maybe, it has some info on this.

    • Oh ya, I should have added that this link isn't actually a link... No help whatsoever. Edit to add I am not sure of this pop up is from the app or not, but I think it is from the OS.

      • I just tested an app called SMS and backup and it was able to perform a local backup on android 15. Could be grapheneOS issue.

I found this discussion after doing an image search. Maybe, it has something that can help you.

        • Wow, thanks! I did not think about a reverse image search. I followed the instructions in that thread, and specifically selecting the three dots and allowing restricted access worked. What I was finding from a web search was from earlier in 2024, or even older. Obviously I was not using the best search techniques. Much appreciated!
