Especially gasoline. Vanillin can and is being made from petroleum. Most of it actually is being made from petroleum.
The other main way of synthetically making Vanillin is from Lignin which is way more sustainable and a byproduct of the paper production.
It can really be made from a lot of things since it's a realativly simple compound.
