Edit : Yes there are workarounds using Revanced. Check the comments for some awesome help on how to do this if you wish! Just know, in the future it will most likely end up being patched annoyingly and I therefore recommend looking forward to the future with us here.

Nah man, that was a LONG time ago haha, I wouldn't worry about it. They were both messengers though and used to shared files, so they're essentially close enough. IRC is essentially pre-Telegram.
IRC was basically pre-everything. Before ICQ and MSN and WhatsApp and surely before telegram.
Probably only Usenet was older, if we're talking about social networking software.
Too true! I never got into Usenet, I prefer Real-Debrid, but I know it has its use and purpose and it still has an underground fan base today, I hear it's worth the access to a newsgroup if you actually pirate tons of content.
Usenet was a hierarchical structure for what became the forums. You had a main tree and then separated branches for every argument, for example alt.sports then alt.sports.martialarts then alt.sports.martialarts.karate
Usenet was text only, very fast with old modems compared to web pages.
All the files (and piracy stuff) were relegated to alt.binaries
Thank you for taking the time to explain this, it's no wonder why the warez scene seems to be so well put together and organized, they have been for a very long time!
