I doubt this had as much to do with their own ideology as it did with the hate that was thrown at them after they were outed. They may not have been completely comfortable with themself but it sounds like they were working in that direction.
I wonder what they preached as a preacher. Hopefully their message was one of acceptance and hopefully the tragedy of their death will teach acceptance to people in their community.
