Unmasking facial expression diversity: How autism challenges emotions & communication. Study reveals nuances in expression styles & their impact.
.........no shit? Constantly surprises me, myself being a high functioning autistic that so many people can't even get the fucking basics of that through their thick fucking heads.
There is a distinct lack of people on the spectrum in the mental health field, and I think that leads to worse treatment because you have people who just can't think like we do. Therapists talk about being empathetic and listening to people, but what we really need is a cheat sheet for how to read faces. They talk about expressing your emotions in words when we don't even understand the emotions we're feeling because they don't feel the same to us.
How about the other way around. Is there a cheat sheet for NT people to interpret emotions of autistic people? How do emotions feel to autistic people?
Anger still equals bad happy still equals good it's just everything in the middle is complicated to us. It's hard to describe because most individuals are bad at describing emotion in general so you add not understanding the full range of emotions and things get harder for us on the autistic spectrum.
