Prime Minister Kishida announces support for company's second plant in Kumamoto
KUMAMOTO, Japan/TAIPEI -- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. has inaugurated its first plant in Japan, paving the way for it to begin making smartphone and auto-related chips for top local clients Sony and Renesas by the end of this year.
Progress on that plant is slow right now. The US government wants the majority of workers to be US citizens but TSMC says that can’t find enough skilled laborers.
