Yeah I really don't understand how people have a such a bad experience on here. I think I have had one asshole who argued with me, in over seven months spent here. And even that guy was mostly just condescending as fuck instead of outright throwing insults. Everyone else is just the normal kind of argumentative that I am myself as well.
Yeah honestly the people at Lemmy are mostly great.
I think the difference is that the people on Lemmy seem in general to be smarter than other places, generally people actually seem to want to discuss rather than argue.
Not that there aren’t dumb assholes on Lemmy. I mean, I’m here.
To me it just means people are more eloquent about their transphobia or their rationalization of genocide 🙄

The genocide rationalization is an issue I’ve noticed.
I find everyone pretty civil 99% of the time. But the times their uncivil kinda counterbalance that by a lot. For instance, every time where I mention I'm a woman, suddenly a mysterious amount of down votes appears on every single thing I've said in that thread, and on occasion I even get horrific hate comments I'd never receive under normal circumstances.
Like, I've said some horrifically stupid shit and just been gently corrected all of the time, except if people know I'm a woman and I say something they even slightly disagree with. Then immediately every single person under the sun descends to tell me what a dumbass I am. Luckily that in particular hasn't happened so much recently, but the down votes showing up any time I say I'm a woman is still a persistent issue.
I'd totally understand it in this case though. My complaints only have vaguely to do with anything. I just take any opportunity to vent about feeling like an outsider on the one social media platform I'm still willing to use.
More related though is I've given up trying to discuss women's issues at all on Lemmy (not that I've stopped bringing them up, just stopped bothering making a discussion out of it.) Doesn't matter where or how I bring it up, doing so immediately floods in the most vile replies I've ever seen. There seems to be a weird preconception around here that if you're pro woman you must be anti man.
