It looks like the sort of thing you'd see someone build in a movie about escaping a desert island.
Didn't Mythbusters do it on a duct tape raft?
I didn't watch much Mythbusters, but it sounds like something they would do.
They made a raft for floating. White water needs a bit more rigidity.
