Family stricken with rare brain worms after eating undercooked bear
In the parasite vs. bear vs. human battle, the grizzly parasite comes out on top.

Wait if they had cooked the bear more, they'd have been eating dead worms instead of live ones? Safer I guess, but still not at all appetizing imho.
5 1 ReplyA lot of the meat you eat already has parasites in it. You probably have parasites in you right now. But they're very, very small, and cooking kills them and their eggs just fine. You'd have to put the meat under a microscope to really see them.
20 0 ReplyA lot? Trichinosis has almost been eliminated in pork. An old study looking for a particular parasite found little to none depending on the product. Here is another study showing very low incidence of parasites in meat products, but also includes fresh produce in the study which had higher rates than some meats.
So I disagree that "A lot" is correct.

Yes trichinosis can be avoided like salmonella by ensuring a meat is raised to a safe temp.
