What's the difference between the two instance filters? If they are the community and user instances, how do I tell them apart?

One is the instance that community is on and one is the instance that the user is from.

I do agree. Or an icon by which is which for each particular post.

It should say beside the username and beside which community the post is on
No, but if neither instance had a custom icon how would you know which you were tapping?
I don't understand what you're talking about. Both are labeled 'Filter instance' and subtitled 'A remote instance'.
