What about atheist Jews that still think you're bigots? Convenient time to separate culture and religion. Really enables one to go full dog whistle with an easy out. Super fun week seeing true colors. But we're just whiney snowflakes.
It doesn’t look like the meme is mocking his culture, only his religion. On top of that, it appears to be calling out his hypocrisy when it comes to secular American politics. So I don’t really see how an Atheist Jew would take offense to this meme that’s mocking a religion they don’t follow, as well as his theocratic-inspired American legislation efforts.
I’m not even an atheist, I’m Catholic. I just saw this meme and thought it was funny because I too think Ben Shapiro’s religious dogma is both bullshit and at odds with half the shit he says. If he was a Christian and these “bigots” made fun of his crucifix instead of yarmulke it wouldn't really bother me.
Glad you wrote back, thanks. We agree on a lot. He's a douchebag, if that needs saying. But as a secular Jew, what isn't offensive to you, and an interconnectedness that doesn't make sense to you, it actually does to us. There is a lot of intellectualizing away humanity this week so I'm sensitive to it. But fwiw I have been for decades. Like.. I despise Hamas. I weep at pictures of Muslim children.. this isn't politics. If it were any other locale, the Israeli victims would come first out the gate.. like 9/11.. per capita 200x the scale in this case. Except instead of Wall St employees, they were hippie farmers. But it's Jews, so no. And you can call out Israeli apartheid, but nobody victim blames any other civilians anywhere on the honor globe like I've seen this week. If you have any Jewish people you care about, that's my tip. Question why "this case" but not others. Before this war started, it was already on Lemmy let me alone earth. I can give you specific examples if you like.
