For real. I was like "Chat? Which of their messaging apps is that?" Messages at least seems like it'll be around for a while, but I don't trust Google with not killing any of their projects...

Isn't Google Chat a feature of Google Messages? It's what they call RCS for some reason.

17 0 ReplyHere's a bonus for more confusion: in Google Messages if your carrier doesn't self host RCS, that "Chat" toggle changes to a ”Google Jibe" one 🤦♂️

Messages is sms, MMS, RCS. I'm not sure what chat uses, but it's a data protocol not tied to the cell network

I thought they got rid of Google chat and made it only for their paid plans or whatever, I remember uninstalling it and switching to signal when they killed it.
Also why is the update to make it look the same it did before
