War coverage in the media is simply too much for me
No clue how some of you try to track the events of major conflicts. It just all seems like a stew of piss and vomit designed to spread disease. I can hardly read the NYT, guardian, wapost, etc. at all, much less read their war coverage. War itself is bad enough but adding in the perspectives of western analysts is just masochistic. I never want to hear a liberal of any kind mention hamas ever again. Im so sick of the measured intellectuals and their gratuitous condemnations of #violence ever again.
It's pretty important to see what it actually looks like on the ground actually. The soldiers are confined to armored vehicles by sniper fire. Artillery can land direct hits with drone surveillance. Resistance is not futile. This stuff is actually much more important than defeatist whining about how the war makes you feel sad.
This is momentous stuff. This is where the sidewalk ends for NATO, this is where wile e coyote drops, they can't fight Iran and Russia and China and DPRK and Hezbollah, they can't just ramp up production we don't even have the electrical grid for it.
Look at how quickly Biden arranged conciliatory talks with Xi.
You call this voyeurism, why do you think these people took this footage? Should it just be for Israeli intelligence to analyze? I genuinely think there is something wrong with you if it doesn't inspire you.
I genuinely think there is something wrong with you if it doesn't inspire you.
Jumping onto a post about the immense heaviness of reckoning with the human toll of this bombing campaign in Gaza and the discounting, detached way it is discussed in the media with what amounts to
What do you mean? We get to watch spectacular violence like the ground war, isn't that enlivening?
is an empathy failure.
I've seen some footage like what you've linked. It's true that the courage of the resistance fighters in Gaza is remarkable and inspiring, and that this courage stands in contrast to the hesitancy of the IDF to even set foot on the ground they purport to invade.
But does that really so uplift the totality of these events that it makes them somehow a pleasure to follow? And are clips like that really very informative about that totality? I think one can only answer 'yes' to those questions if one is selectively detached from certain facts as well as feelings.
If anger is easier to access than grief, why? If it's easier to focus on the ground war than the siege, why? If justified violence is easier to witness or contemplate than suffering, why?
For someone fighting on the ground, the fight itself is the answer to those questions. But for you and me?
It's almost like we were taught as little boys that violence and anger are our purview, but grief and care are not;
that to countenance sadness is to approach defeat.
How do you not connect the horror of the bombing campaign with the ineffectiveness of the armored vehicles? They have to unleash Hiroshima on Gaza because they HAVE NO FIGHTING CAPABILITY
Don't ever articulate this kind of depressive nonsense to anyone again. May as well tell them you've got a headache. Zero coherent thoughts, "being happy the resistance fighters are stronger than anticipated" is not taking the easy way out.
You don't get to erase my sorrow by telling me I don't deserve anger. Don't deserve joy. You should be erased from existence. You can't think and you deplore a sense of purpose.
Justice may have to come in the next life but it will never come from a fucking coward like you who is afraid of a fucking insurgent armored vehicle kill compiltion
You're seriously trying to project your own psychological issues on to this, I've saved your rant for posterity. One of the most disgusting displays of empty sophistry I have ever witnessed. I can't imagine you have any friends IRL if you think it's appropriate to do this kind of psychobabble.
Guess what you little worm, 83% of young people love this shit. Randos and my few friends there LOVED seeing the Merkava destroyed irl. I was showing people at indoor dodgeball. Nobody else is as pathetic as you.
They also felt privileged to see true heroism for the only time in their fucking life. After having to mope around with people like you.
My guy, you just absolutely exploded into a vicious, personal attack in response to a reminder of some basic elements of male socialization under patriarchy and a suggestion that they might play into war voyeurism.
You just responded to a report that you failed to connect with a certain emotional dimension of a post in a comradeship community with an attempt to dominate and punish, via verbal abuse, the person who pointed that out.
I'm the first person to criticize OSINT and the competitive posting of war footage but we arr truly privileged to witness this stuff in this era of "journalism" which consists of toadies repeating the state dept etcetera & people level headed & object-permanence-having enough to criticize them & relay that analysis for a similarly disgusted audience
This is heroism and you're being smug. You're out of whack imho
You are a voyeur and you valorize it needlessly. I didn't ask anyone for combat footage with hardly any context. Go pretend you are on the frontlines and ignore the damage that is being done for all I care.
Yeah sorry for valorizing people killing the IDF instead of trying to paint their actions as futile and meaningless. Have you considered that it isn't and your personal taste has zero weight?
