DISCUSSION: Episode 23

Last weeks thread - 9 Comments

Dungeon Meshi is a well liked manga, and an adaptation by Studio Trigger is now airing. If you haven’t picked this one up, consider joining us. Both for fun and as a way of contributing to activity on Lemmy.

Episodes are available to stream on Netflix.

Senshi tells us about his past, about the dwarf party with which he came to the island, many decades ago.

After an emotional bonding moment, the party then promptly walks into yet more trouble. Literally.

Remember not to spoil anything if you’re a manga reader, but feel free to elaborate on tidbits of lore that may not be coming through in the adaptation.

  • There is a lot of episode in this episode!?! The ED was omitted entirely in favor of more screen-time for stuff happening, and even with that the runtime pushes beyond any other episode so far.

Fingers crossed the same is true for next week. If we're lucky, they're doing something special to wrap up the season!

We finally get to learn something truly pivotal about Senshi. Similar to Marcy losing her human father to old age, he suffered a traumatic childhood event that forever changed him.

Yet another time this anime has made me cry even as I know exactly what to expect, having read the manga.

And yum, more Senshi without a helmet. "He's always been cool and handsome" indeed.

Might I even suggest.... That he's cute?

    AH FUCK GO BACK!!

The changeling chapters are fantastic. For once, Chil looks exactly the way he acts, Marcy's cuteness is over 900000, while Senshi is WAY TOO GODDAMN ATTRACTIVE. I wonder if that's essentially what he looked like to Namari.

  • So, I am still traveling for work and having to write this on mobile, so I will have to keep it brief. Side note, this is the first time I had to trigger rikka's post via mobile, so I had to find an ssh client and get things like keys sorted. Really glad I got that all sorted out the previous day in anticipation of this because it took way longer than I thought it would.

Senshi's backstory was tragic, but at the same time it was kind of touching. His crew just really wanted to take care of him until the very end. Also, don't think I missed that their group's horse was named Anne...the same name that he gave to the Kelpie that tried to kill him. Probably makes the Kelpie's betrayal sting all the more.

The random racial rearrangement part of the episode was interesting. I am not really sure where this aspect of the story is going to go. It doesn't seem like a solution is immediately forthcoming, so they might be stuck with this arrangement for a while. Perhaps switching back could make for a good season finale event? Looking forward to see what happens with the crew's new makeup and how they work together.

  • I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to this episode! And it fully, absolutely deliver! 😄

  • So excited for the finale!! This episode was such a rollercoaster, loved every second (and thanks for all the screengrabs everyone!)
