Shutting your computer down

I’m in IT. The frequency of my asking if someone held the power button to kill a frozen device and them saying it didn’t work says that buttons have been made to require too long of a press. People remember that working in about three seconds. I tell them to hold it for ten seconds while looking at a clock or watch. Works every time.

Windows

• Win+R: shutdown /s /f /t 0

Linux

• shutdown -P now || poweroff

Any other method is too ambiguous. No I don't expect you to sleep, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.
