The Guild is asking people to break their Wordle streaks
Workers are striking after trying a failing multiple times to negotiate fair pay, standardize Remote/Hybrid options, and other basic rights. The strike comes the day before election day.
I guess fingers crossed at the NYT that the election website doesn't tip over from too much traffic....
A reminder that wordle started life as a free, vanilla javascript website with no DRM and not owned by the NYT, you can download and run it as a single self contained HTML file from there https://github.com/sneakers-the-rat/local_wordle
And as always, the majority response to this will absolutely be something along the lines of "I support writers but you can fuck right off if you expect me to inconvenience myself in the slightest most superficial way in solidarity with you because actually having to modify my behavior in the simplest way is where I draw the line."
I don't think that kind of anti-labour attitude is likely to be prevalent among people who play daily NYT word games. A more mainstream response is probably more like "whatever, nerds."
There are alternatives that are arguably better.
You can play the exact same puzzles as on the NYT site without giving them your traffic. There are archives of their puzzles that you can play for free. If you like connections, go to https://www.connectionsunlimited.org/. For wordles, go to https://wordlearchive.com/. Just Google for archived versions of your favorite games.
Well shit. I guess I can't play it anymore. There's still duotrigordle, waffle, and a million others though. Plus I was starting to see ads on the app.
