Thank you to @carpoftruth@hexbear.net for covering my position as Supreme Dictator of the Goddamn News while I was moving and getting set up in my new home in a top secret Kremlin-funded bunker five hundred feet below the ground. Our regularly scheduled programming returns this week.
On October 9th, Daniel Chapo won the Mozambique general election with about 70% of the vote. Chapo is the head of FRELIMO, the Marxist-Leninist party of Mozambique's liberation, which fought an internal anti-communist resistance called RENAMO which was backed by Rhodesia and apartheid South Africa; Frelimo won in 1975. However, as the USSR fell, Frelimo began to allow elections inside Mozambique, and has ruled the country with significant majorities in each election ever since.
The main opposition party inside Mozambique is Podemos, which is led by Venancio Mondlane, a former member of Renamo and trained inside the USA. He alleges that his polling figures predicted a majority win for him, not Frelimo, and has accused Chapo of electoral fraud. There have been the usual slogans about how they yearn for freedom. The EU, of course, "witnessed irregularities." As @WilsonWilson@hexbear.net has pointed out, Mozambique has massive undeveloped gas fields and is outsourcing the development process to France, Norway, the UK, and the USA, while mysterious Islamist groups have popped up to cause chaos in the exact regions which have the gas, slowing the process of actually developing those gas fields. Overall, it appears to be a cookie-cutter colour revolution attempt by the imperial core designed to install a comprador for cheaper resources. Its proximity to BRICS+ member South Africa may also be significant, noting the colour revolution in Bangladesh earlier this year exerting influence near India and China.
Protestors have been battling against the police and government since late October, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries as well as massive disruption, as the government has intermittently blocked access to the internet and social media. As of today, calm appears to be returning, with border crossings beginning to reopen.

Gaza - not mentioned, even though they talk about Harris getting fewer votes than Biden in Dearborn. Grocery prices - not mentioned. Are you better off than you were four years ago? Not mentioned.
Some analysts point out that Ms. Harris was simply the latest political casualty of a postpandemic global trend favoring challengers, no matter the incumbents’ politics, in places like Japan, South Africa, South Korea and Britain.
Mexico? Not mentioned, because then they'd have to point out that incumbent parties that have actually done something to help people out of poverty tend to win reelection.
too lazy to make a post but on amerikkkan celebrities, beacons of virtue.
Imagine donating to campaign to fight fascism (together with 700 mln dark money, but putting that aside), and they pay katy perry cool 1 million for appearance
Speaking in St Petersburg, President Putin sent a clear warning to the West: don’t allow Ukraine to use your long-range missiles to strike Russian territory.
Moscow, he said, would view that as the “direct participation” of Nato countries in the war in Ukraine.
“It would substantially change the very essence, the nature of the conflict,” the Kremlin leader continued.
“This will mean that Nato countries, the USA and European states, are fighting with Russia.”
He claimed that, for missile launches into Russia, Ukraine would require data from Western satellites and that only servicemen from Nato member states would be able to “input flight missions into these missile systems”.
As stated in my post in selfcrit, I'm staying on the site to host the news megathreads and will keep posting as normal.
I already completely made up my mind. My post there wasn't to try and get people to beg for me to return, it was just to be transparent about why I felt like I was a subpar moderator in light of recent events and therefore why I left. I'm the only mod on self_improvement so I can't just leave (literally, the site UI doesn't allow zero moderators AFAIK) so once we've sorted that out, I will no longer be a part of the mod team and I've already left the mod chat.
Iranian citizens are now able to withdraw cash using their Shetab payment system cards in Russia, marking the first phase of integration between Iran's Shetab and Russia's Mir payment networks, Iran's embassy in Moscow announced on November 11.
Marco Rubio being Secretary of State is not going to be good. Nightmare level policy towards LatAm. Not feeling optimistic.
Edit: Only way I see out is if Trump spreads the military too much. Admin is going to back Israel against Iran, will escalate with China, is sending mixed signals about Ukraine.
Trump has picked Elise Stefanik to be the UN Ambassador for the US.
While I maintain that functionally, Trump and Harris policies will be no different on the ground in Palestine, there is definitely worrying signs already that Trump will also be pretty horrible, in particular for the West Bank.
Stefanik is an uber-Zionist even by US Congress standards. She was the one grilling university presidents over not being tough enough on student protestors. There are rumors that Miriam Adelson donated $100 million to Trump’s campaign on the condition that he support Israel annexing the West Bank. And Israel has tapped a settlement expansion activist to be the next ambassador to the US, who is also very pro-annexation as well.
Lebanon needs air defenses and the fact that no country has even pretended to offer that shows what a cowardly world we live in.
Palestine also needs air defenses.
Israel is dropping bombs on residential buildings every day and massacring entire families. We’re all just helplessly watching bc this world is pathetic.
The only country that can do that is Russia and they’re being stretched to the limit by endless waves of Ukrainian drones and the occasional yet unpredictable long range missile strikes supplied by Western countries. All of their air defense systems are already fully occupied and new production (which is being churned out slowly) obviously goes to the Ukrainian front.
The Haka in the NZ parliament video has been quite viral on Arab social media circles in the past two days, and it has generated some pretty interesting reactions that I will share here.
Reaction type number 1: why? The most common reaction is people being completely unaware of the history of Maori peoples in NZ, so they share or comment on the video in an attempt to understand the context of the video. Many comments ridiculing the thing, but most were just curious about who these people are.
Reaction type number 2: damn this is cool. Many thought it was cool and that it shows that Maoris are brave people that are not afraid to capture the white man's institution to do their dance and show their culture.
Reaction type number 3: this is a defeated people. This type of reaction was the most interesting in my opinion, because people made a lot of comparisons to Palestinians inside Israel who participate in elections and have representation in the Knesset. It was a lot of "is this really it?", this is a defeated people whose culture and way of life was mostly decimated by colonisers, and now they're standing in the white man's institutions wearing the white man's clothing and doing song and dance. I have to emphasise that most of these reactions actually came from a place of love for native people, but they saw the Haka in this particular context as a sign of humiliation, not strength. One guy wrote that Israel might let three Palestinians do a dabke in the Knesset in 2050 as they sign a law that deports all remaining Arabs in Greater Israel.
@SeventyTwoTrillion@hexbear.net - just came back from touching grass and saw your comment asking me to comment, still catching up with the US election news and still processing.
(also I have no idea what’s going on with the mod situation or whatever that happened over the past week but I hope you stay and run the news mega because this is probably my only attachment to the site)
I will give my hot takes now for the sake of driving a discussion: Harris lost, the Democrats won, Trump a sacrificial lamb, third party movements annihilated, Biden will have the last laugh though he (or his demented mind) probably won’t live long enough to see it
First of all, the US electoral system is designed to PUNISH. What you’re seeing now is the (non-)voters getting disciplined. Trump didn’t exactly win, Harris lost because millions of voters did not turn up to vote for various reasons that we’re all too familiar with. If you refuse to vote for Harris, you DESERVE Trump. That’s what the libs are snickering about now. Arab voters chose to punish Harris for committing genocide in Gaza? Well, how about you getting punished by Trump who will hopefully deport all of you? The libs are going to be enjoying the schadenfreude of seeing minorities and immigrants getting punished under Trump and continue to scold those who refused to support them.
The Democrats will not change their way just because they lost the election. The system is working exactly as intended, and the new Trump administration is being used as a fascist terror regime to scare the (non-)voters back into the fold of the Democrats by 2026 mid-term elections. And because of this, the genocide against Palestinians will almost certainly be ramped up under Trump just to spite on the people who wanted to punish them for the genocide.
The main question is: will the American voters who have decided to sit out this election be scared enough by Trump into voting the Democrats again in 2026 and 2028? If so, then the system is simply correcting itself, and all the Democrats have to do is to be patient and wait 2 years.
To repeat: the US electoral system is designed to PUNISH. American DemocracyTM meant to rule by FEAR.
Meanwhile, the DNC will fundraise like no tomorrow until 2026. Wealthy liberal donors so appalled by Trump’s victory will be dishing out their live savings to protect “American democracy”. What’s unique this time is that the Democrats have also secured enough of the traditional Republican establishment donors who have splintered off Trump’s MAGA party that the DNC will now receive double income from both the Democratic liberal and the Republican establishment. Because of how Citizens United works, the DNC will go into the mid-term with very strong financial backing and will certainly have no trouble running their campaigns (reminder that Harris out-spent Trump 4:1 in this election - they have the money for sure).
As such, the Democrats will continue to rebrand itself as the new Republican Party over the next 4 years, achieving what they have already dreamed of for decades. This is a huge win for the Democrats even when they have lost the election.
Third, Biden has already set off a ticking time bomb when the Fed started to reduce interest rates back in September. There is no indication that anyone will stop the rate cut from now on, with Trump himself wanting to cut the rate even faster.
This is a deliberately timed policy such that when the interest income dried up, it will be at least 6-12 months (depending on the rate at which the deficits are drained) after the election. This means recession - and if you think the last two years of inflation was bad, what’s coming is going to be far worse. Many people will lose their jobs. I don’t know if it will be 2009 GFC level recession, but whoever is in the government over the next 2-4 years will be in hot water trying to resuscitate the economy.
Combined this with Elon Musk pledging to cut 2 trillion deficit, if they really went through with this, we’re going to be looking at an epic proportion of the US economy meltdown (which will also send shockwaves across the world so for those of you living in the Global South, don’t get too excited over this). I doubt the establishment will let it happen but Trump and Musk are both wildcards so anything goes.
Incidentally, the Wall Street will survive this round of onslaught no matter what, as China has already committed to a financial opening up and lifted all foreign investment restrictions for their manufacturing sector. China is definitely going after the foreign investment route, and I will not pretend that this isn’t a Biden foreign policy win for bullying the Chinese libs into agreeing to this bullshit. What is almost certainly going to happen is that the Wall Street will jump all in for the Chinese stock market and buy up Chinese assets while Trump struggle to re-industrialize the American manufacturing sector. Trump thinks he can take on Wall Street, but in the end China will once again save the American bourgeois class from their domestic “threat” (I don’t think Trump is an actual threat, but rather an aberration that needs to be corrected). The working class will suffer, they will blame Trump and the GOP by the next election, and the affluent libs will be as insufferable as you can imagine.
Again it must be repeated just how incredibly well timed the Fed rate cut in September was. I don’t know what the Biden administration was on but they have played their cards and adapted to a very dynamic geopolitical situation extremely well, that’s for sure. (I already wrote about how the Fed rate cut + a global recession will allow the US imperialists to take a big bite on the globe a while back, so I will just skip the entire essay here).
Fourth, this election also sealed the fate of third party electoralism. People would rather sit out than to vote for a third party. The bourgeois establishment has achieved their goals of preventing third party voting (not that it was ever an actual threat to begin with, now that we look back in hindsight) and the ratchet effect of Democratic-Republican bipartisan machine will continue to spin. I don’t think the third parties are ever coming back from this - Bernie Sanders had one good opportunity to run as a third party candidate when getting screwed by the DNC last time, but that opportunity to reshape the American political landscape is now forever lost. It’s either voting for the Democrats or face an ever vicious Republican party - those are the only choices left now. The only way out of this nightmare is a revolution.
Finally, we’ll talk about some wildcard scenarios. While I still think that Trump will follow the neocon strategy as before (or rather, unable to stop the wheels already in motion), the fact that you have Trump and Musk as two crazy people running the show warrants further speculations into the wildcard scenario that may arise. Most worrying is Trump wanting to appoint Musk as the DOGE minister to cut 2 trillion spending. This is going to be a huge drain on the US deficits that are important to flood the Global South and get them hooked on the dollar.
Not understanding how the US monetary imperialism works, they might just fuck this up and screw up the dollar liquidity essential to maintaining the US hegemony, while at the same time landing the US into a huge economic crisis that could be beyond what the establishment had envisioned. I have mentioned about Wall Street flooding the Chinese capital markets, but the US economy is so massive that an epic meltdown of the economy might end up inflicting such a huge blow on the Chinese export economy that even the Wall Street financiers get drowned there. This is obviously not something that the bourgeois establishment would like to see happen, and this could actually trigger WW3 if we are unfortunate enough to end up in this scenario.
Houthi rebels are brandishing increasingly sophisticated weapons, including missiles that "can do things that are just amazing," the Pentagon's chief weapons buyer said at an Axios event.
Lol. Lmao even.
At this point, if I was the Pentagon I would simply hire Yemeni engineers
Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment Bill LaPlante on Wednesday said the Houthis "are getting scary."
"I'm an engineer and a physicist, and I've been around missiles my whole career," he said at the Future of Defense summit in Washington, DC. "What I've seen of what the Houthis have done in the last six months is something that — I'm just shocked."
The US and their dogs allowing Ukraine to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles doesn't change anything. Russia under Putin are committed to deescalation until the Ukraine war is wrapped up, and Ukraine's biggest issues are in Ukraine itself. Hitting an oil refinery in Rostov won't stop Russian advances in Donetsk. Those strikes might affect Russian supply lines a bit, but Russia has a lot of options with different paths to take to reach the front.
In case anyone was wondering how terrifying it would be for a terrain following stealth subsonic cruise missile to fly directly over your head, video has been captured of such an incident in Odessa, Ukraine. Reddit link, Mirror link Here we have what is likely a Kh-101 missile, which cruises at an altitude of between 30m - 70m (100ft - 230ft) above ground level to minimise detection. The Kh-69 flies even lower, at 20m or 65ft.
According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, the average price American retailers paid two years ago for a cotton t-shirt made in Bangladesh was $1.83. This year, it’s $1.65 – nearly a 10% drop.
One reason is increased competition among factories in Bangladesh to sell their wares, so prices are dropping.
At the same time, the country is experiencing a wave of inflation that has meant greater expenses for the workers in their daily lives — and for factories as well.
Mobarak says that Yunus has an opportunity to use his influence to protect workers’ rights.
“He could use his voice effectively to bring international buyers to the table and help them recognize their ethical obligations toward poor Bangladeshi workers,” he says.
So far, Yunus has not publicly addressed this issue.
I love npr passive descriptions here (at least seems like fairly objective reporting without matty saviourism, but jesus christ)
Just a few random thoughts about Russian strategy and current short term goals in Ukraine. I've been religiously following this war since the first few days and I guess like many of you nerds here, one begins to sort of develop an understanding of military affairs after consuming so much content in a short period. My analysis of the current South Donetsk offensive is that it is the most coherent and well-executed campaign since the start of the war. Previous long-term Russian and Ukrainian offensives were like separate islands of small gains, never joining together into one single front that drastically collapses an entire part of the front. Ukraine for example during their 2023 summer offensive attacked in three different directions, south of Orikhiv, west of Bakhmut, and south of Velika Novosilka. All those fronts never had a realistic chance of actually linking up, as they were too far from each other and there was never a real coherent "what happens next" plan. Same with the Russian offensive in the start of the war. They attacked near Kiev, near Kharkov, from the South and north of the old LPR territory, but the first two fronts could never realistically collapse an entire sector and link up to be one continuous front with supply lines entirely located in the captured zones. Even Bakhmut was the same, Russia made a dent in the frontline, but the lack of offensives in Siversk and Toretsk meant that Russia couldn't collapse an entire sector and straighten out the line again, so they only took the city and some territory around it.
Their current southern offensive is different though, with three big arrows that are actually threatening the entire South Donetsk sector for Ukraine. An advance of a few km from each direction now is lethal for the AFU. They would lose one of the most fortified sectors of the front, and escape into open fields with no fortifications all the way to Pavlograd. According to a map of fortifications that I saw last week, the whole section from Kurakhovo to the centre of Dnipro Oblast has barely any defensible ground, and the opening of that sector for Russian troops means that they will be able to outflank Ukraine's north-south trench systems in Zaporozhye, and the east-west systems in fortified central Donetsk. 2025 will be extremely decisive for this war if Trump doesn't pull off a 4D chess peace agreement.
the latest episode of Oats for Breakfast was an interview with Norman Finkelstein, most of which was about his personal history in the occupied West Bank during the first intifada, but also touching on trump v harris/biden and the war since october 7. Finkelstein is such a pleasure to listen to, truly the ultimate in earnest no-fun scolding. the interviewer on the podcast is a bit milquetoast at times, but that makes the interview even better because of finkelstein's strident moralism and rigor.
one thoughtful point raised by finkelstein was about the risk of fascism with trump's election - he makes the point that fascist states have emerged in history as a response to strong left wing movements. there is no strong left wing mass movement in the US, so there is less incentive for the state to be openly fascist.
So, the Brazilian terrorist (the Liberal Joker lol) was a locksmith and a landlord. Most of his money came from renting out a building to various people. It seems he was married to a random woman, who is also a far-right Bolsonaro supporter, and she confirmed that she saw him googling things about bombs and terrorism, and also confirmed that the couple (before divorcing in 2023) went to protests in 2022/2023, where they begged the Army, the US, aliens and God (that's not a joke, by the way) for a coup.
She said she knew her ex-husband was going to kill Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes and called the judge an animal that deserved to be killed, she said that to the Federal Police investigators. And to make things even funnier, this couple also stole money from the government's social programs by falsifying documents, which makes things funny because in the Liberal Joker's manifesto he said he was angry about Lula's Tax Reform because it would target the rich and take money from them to give to useless people who didn't deserve it (he's talking about poor people).
Twitch declares that “Zionist” is a slur, will issue bans for criticizing “individuals” based on their “religious beliefs or background” (genocide, settler colonialism)
Direct implications for leftist anti-genocide influencers like Hasan and his platform, also possibly setting precedents for mass censorship and removal of other Palestinian and anti-genocide organizing on major social media networks.
Since the Amsterdam maccabi hooligan event, Israel has been trying really hard to influence the narrative put out by media and politicians. The ministry of Diaspora has put out a document detailing supposed ties between Palestinian liberation activist groups and Hamas (lol). They also claim that these liberation groups preplanned the attacks on hooligans, and their proof is literally just a call for people to come join their protest during the match.
These ‘allegations’ would be funny if we did not have a right extremist government that is receptive to them.
(cw: one mildly NSFW blurred image of Benny Gantz being kissed on the stomach)
The Iranian Handala hacking group hacked into Gallant’s personal computer and released images.
Handala teases Israel’s Aman and says they should answer their public with some questions:
Explain the secret relationship between Adi Sabag and Gallant in the red bed room on the 16th floor of Matcal Tower and the leak of some classified data by Gallant and the online spying of Adi's mobile at that moment.
2- Explain the secret relationship between Netanyahu's trusted doctor and Benny Gantz at the Savoy Hotel in London and the transfer of some confidential data from Bibi to Gantz by that doctor.
3- The suicide of Noga, Gantz's daughter, after hearing the story of her father's secret relationship, who was only looking for more information from Bibi.
The Iranian Handala hacking group also exposed the identity of “Adi Sabag,” the Inspection Commander of the General Staff of the Israeli Army, for the first time.
Her appearance was unknown to the public.
— Handala writes:
This senior female commander is responsible for many events and criminal decisions of the Israeli army. Now, for the first time, the images of this senior commander are revealed. This is a historic failure for Aman! Do you know how much top-secret data reached us when Adi was in charge of the General Staff Office?
We have said many times that it is painful for you to even imagine what secret organizations we are apart of!
In the post above, Handala exposed the secret relationship between Adi Sabag & Gallant.
Hello liberals, I will give my balance on 's Argentina and how things are as of right now, November 2024. But my talk will not be about the cringe ass ancap, I will talk about Peronism and their role as opposition.
As some of you might recall, milei's violent rethoric against "public" education (and I put public on quotes because I have another definition of what is public and what isn't) triggered a nation-wide response from universities as many of them were occupied by the students. Mine was among the first to do so, not unlikely considering it is an historic hotbed for left wing militacy, even though today it's not as good as it used to be.
Anyways, the movement gained traction but, as with many things, the lack of coordination and some... sabotage from within slowly but surely eroded it. It was to be expected, some universities are not really politicized because of course people who study complex mathematics don't have time to read Marx or something, and others have either shit soccdem or peronist leadership and fighting is not for them. My university ended up abandoning the occupation after like 20 days or so, we fought heavily to keep it running but at the end of the day we had to leave it. During the last assemblies, our struggle was directly against peronists and their party structure, who began to attempt to dissolve the movement to "take the fight elsewhere", in accordance with their general policies.
But nothing is really a failure, no matter how bad it looks. There's always experiences to draw upon and lessons to learn. Our lesson is that you just can't trust peronist-aligned groups, no matter how "radical" they may seem, because they have non-revolutionary agendas and are NOT anti-capitalist, they're just reformists who want to play nice and with some rules. The student's leadership in our university is ideologically aliged with the authorities, all are peronists. Then, a professor in one assembly said "There is fear among the authorities that this kind of assemblies might go out of control and become truly democratic and truly horizontal, some people are indeed fighting not for the common good but for their comfort positions". And he, in just a few sentences, described peronism and how they view the struggle against milei.
There has been a very alarming lack of action from the main confederation of unions, the CGT. They are the ones who say "Okay, general strike" and there will be a general strike, their level of reach and organization is unmatched. Unfortunately, the leadership of the CGT and of the many unions that form it are either all peronists or something else, few if any are leftist. The fact they haven't called for strikes in nearly one year of suicidal policies by milei is indeed alarming, it's especially bad considering the CGT has been active and calling for strikes EVEN against former peronist governments. They're nothing but a rotten group of decadent old white men who weaponized class struggle and left it at the mercy of a grotesque bureaucracy.
So if you don't see much action it's because peronism has an interest to cut a deal and keep people away from doing dangerous commie things. They don't want spontaneous organisation by workers where they take matters into their own hands. After all, peronism is anti-communist despite what some confused folks of the Communist Party think, "United Front" my fucking dick and balls lmfao, losers. I believe that peronism understand milei as a temporary anomaly, that things will "go back to normal" once he expires, they're old fashioned politicians who think the new kind of "outsiders" are short lived. Well, the normalcy we once knew is dead, even more when the latest capitalist crisis cycles are getting worse and worse.
They do want to go out to the streets, but only on their terms. Meanwhile they're trying to craft Cristina Fernández de Kirchner back to a presentable leader, as she just assumed control of the Justicialist Party (main peronist electoral party), but she is responsible for getting us into this mess in the first place. Then, once society reaches a point of near collapse, that's when they'll mobilize and cut a deal with the milei government for some sort of "peaceful transition", maybe in the midst of heavy repression like it happened during the December 2001 Riots. Peronism after all is Capital's safe bet when it comes to "social peace".
Therefore, to me it becomes evident that there must be a concentrated effort to organize the working class OUTSIDE the influence of peronism. It's a job that will take years, or maybe not, who knows. The Trots have been doing that fairly well, if anything since the 2000's they've been consistently growing and taking more spaces than before. And while Trots have a shitton of problems, their general stance is a million times better than peronist "we'll give you a better salary XD" policies that reproduce capitalism. Still, agitation becomes necessary and desirable.
Things will continue to decay, milei might "accelerate" the economy for the midterms but that'll make it crash later down the line. I think our goal as leftists is to convince those who felt betrayed by peronism and who hate neoliberalism to join the ranks of Socialism, and I can tell you slowly but surely more people are feeling just like that.
Although the NPPs [Nuclear Power Plants] - Khmelnytskyy, Rivne and South Ukraine – were not directly impacted and did not shut down, several electrical substations on which they depend suffered further damage during the strikes, Director General Grossi said, citing information from Ukraine’s national regulator. The main power lines from four of the substations were disconnected. At the moment, only two of the country’s nine operational reactors currently generate electricity at 100 percent capacity.
The IAEA teams based at the NPPs heard air defence activities and sought shelter during the air raid alarms. At the Khmelnytskyy NPP, the IAEA team heard a loud explosion. At the Rivne NPP, two 330 kilovolt (kV) power lines were unavailable, the team there reported.
Of the nine currently operational reactors at the three NPPs, six reduced output during the morning, ranging from just over 40 percent of maximum capacity to above 90 percent. At the moment, only two operate at 100 percent capacity, with one in shutdown for maintenance. All NPPs continued to receive off-site power.
The Russian de-electrification campaign against Ukraine has reached a new stage this morning, with strikes on substations and main power lines connected to nuclear power plants. Critically though, off site power supply was not hit, or at least not destroyed to the extent to fully interrupt it. This is important to ensure proper cooling for the NPPs.
i finally get how my mom feels about my ex's. it's exaclty how i feel about lula bc of how he's treated maduro and venezuela with respect to them joining BRICS. how dare that cretin harm my sweet boy
Some Mozambique questions that I have on my mind after recently watching a vlog by a Palestinian-Jordanian vlogger who was in Maputo.
How anti-imperialist is FRELIMO these days and how come that they seem mostly kinda hated by the locals?
How prevalent is drug use and general crime in the country? There seems to be crazy amounts of drug users in some neighborhoods and even the metal car logo thingy in front of cars get stolen and sold in criminal markets that are semi-allowed in the country.
Has FRELIMO achieved some success in terms of addressing widespread poverty and living conditions in the slums? The situation seemed horrible from what I saw in the video.
How deep is Portuguese colonial penetration these days? We know that the French never really left the colonies despite the independence of the colonies. What's the situation with Portuguese imperialism?
Hamas called in a statement on 10 November for the formation of an “international Arab-Islamic alliance” to bring an end to the war in Gaza and Lebanon, ahead of a summit hosted by Saudi Arabia to address the "Israeli" genocide.
The resistance movement called on all “kings, presidents, and leaders gathered at the joint Arab-Islamic follow-up summit scheduled to be held tomorrow in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to form an international Arab-Islamic alliance to pressure the occupation and its supporters to stop the war of genocide in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.”
It also called on the participants of the summit to “work to break the siege on Gaza, withdraw from the occupied territories, enable the Palestinian people to exercise their rights to self-determination, establish a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and return Palestinian refugees to their cities and villages from which they were displaced.”
Lathing Trump appointing senators he doesn't like to cabinet positions before unceremoniously firing them after their senator vacancy has been filled by people Trump likes.
Julie Alli (host speaker of Salaamedia) now openly refers to it as "Nazi israel" in addition to the "Zionist Apartheid entity" and she even doubled down since this morning while interviewing the coordinator for the Palestine Solidarity Committe Prof. Usuf Chikte. He also on live radio stated that if Zionists don't want to be called Nazis, then they should not be Nazis.
I should start putting these interviews on TankieTube
I’m glad Mozambique is getting more coverage on here. I was afraid that it would get buried under everything else with it being an African country most aren’t familiar with.
Ceasefire deal inching toward a conclusion. Key sticking point was a clause giving Israel freedom of action in Lebanon, appears to have been removed but Israel is getting written guarantee from Biden (which Trump is certain to uphold) of support for such action in the future.
US is at the same time the mediator of US-Lebanon talks, while also giving Israel written guarantees that they can ignore the deal reached in these US/Israel-Lebanon talks and just attack Lebanon at any point with full US support.
I couldn't find the article I saw today, but it was about how Xi Jinping and Lula da Silva will meet after the G20 in Rio de Janeiro. It seems that, due to Trump's victory, Lula now wants to join the Belt and Road Initiative (it seems that the neoliberals and liberals who support Lula but didn't like China are really afraid that Trump's government and protectionist policies will hurt them and are now pushing for Brazil to join China/BRI). With Brazil joining the BRI, I think China's plan to build the Bioceanic Railway and the Megaport in Peru will succeed. We'll see, but Trump's victory may have pushed Brazil more towards China. I think the fact that Biden didn't give Brazil the money he promised didn't help relations between these two countries.
The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, thanked this Saturday the international solidarity towards his country, hit two days ago by the passage of Hurricane Rafael. In exclusive statements to teleSUR, Díaz-Canel, valued that the help of friendly countries and United Nations bodies, together with the empathy among the Cuban population, have made it possible for the country to be in a phase of recovery and healing.
“There was solidarity among Cubans. The Cuban people have been supportive. Just as people expressed solidarity with Guantánamo (…) And help has arrived from Venezuela. Today we received an audience with the ambassador of Qatar. There are several governments that have asked their ambassadors to provide needs to support and all those things are arriving,” said President Díaz-Canel.
“Also in the United Nations system, with the WFP (World Food Program) and other organizations of the system here in Cuba, they have also made resources available and are raising other resources,” he added.
The Cuban head of state also referred to the recovery of the national electrical system, which he noted has been recovering progressively and in some areas, such as Artemisa, it will take at least 20 days to restore.
Diaz-Canel also mentioned the need for, in addition to the recovery of the electrical system, to move forward in restoring the supply water at the national level.
“I believe, for example, in the affected area that was Artemisa, we have more than a dozen days left. It does not mean that all of Artemisa will be off, but there is an important part that will not have light,” Diaz-Canel said.
“In the midst of this situation, the National Electric System was restored, which has been working from the center to the east of the country. There is already power, the power service has been restored in several areas of the affected provinces. And now we have to start to recover with water, because the water base is also affected when there is no electricity to pump water,” added the Cuban president. He also said that in a week there should be no traces of the hurricane in terms of sanitation.
“In terms of sanitation, in the general sense, on Monday we will already be in a situation where the traces, the most visible trace of the hurricane will not be present. We will still have electrical problems, water problems and the problems with housing and infrastructure that have to do with the same measure that the materials are arriving to be able to recover them,” said the president.
NED is going to be present in Johannesburg of all places next weekend. The live broadcast on Salaamedia called out the NED for being a CIA front, very pro-western/Zionist and collaborating with the Apartheid regime. Both the radio/show host and BDS guest speaker Roshan Dadoo also rightfully took offence to the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation for being one of the venues participating in NED's visit.
I wonder if NED's unwelcome visit to South Africa is related to the unrest in Mozambique, as there have been concerns levied of the violence spilling over into South Africa, with the far-right opposition declaring the elections illegitimate. Of course the supports the Apartheid collaborating party. Mozambique is also just 550 kilometers from Durban and Gauteng. Fertile grounds for another Maidan colour revolution to cause chaos for South Africa. ISIS are also present and have made threats to attack since 2016, but these never materialised.
Just 2 months prior, a Zionist-led "peace in the Middle East" conference that was scheduled to be held in Constitution Hill (also in Johannesburg, which includes the old prison and the Constitutional/Human Rights Court) was canceled due to massive outcry and protests.
Imtiaz Sooliman of the Gift of the Givers should absolutely pursue legal action against the SAJBD, SAZF and SAJR and deliver an earth-shattering smackdown like a WWE fighter with a folding steel chair following defamatory statements in public. I personally think about R1.5 trillion ZAR sounds reasonable enough.
There has been a 400 percent increase in the issuance of demolition orders, Zionist Minister Ben Gvir confirmed. In order to avoid covering the expenses, about 300 residents of the Arab Bedouin village of Umm al-Hiran, in the Negev desert, destroyed their own homes on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Israeli Police and the Land Authority demolished the only remaining structure, the mosque, with the aim of clearing the area to build a Jewish-only town.
“The destruction of Umm al-Hiran to make way for the settlement of Dror is part of a systematic population replacement program in the Negev, intended to uproot nearly 10,000 people in 14 villages and replace them with almost 20 new Jewish colonies, sometimes on the same land,” the Regional Council of Unrecognized Bedouin Villages (RCUV) said today following this forced evacuation.
After a legal battle lasting over 20 years, this is the fourth Bedouin village destroyed by the Israeli government in 2024, and in December, the same is expected to happen to Ras Jaraba, a community in the Negev with over 500 residents and under judicial eviction orders since July 2023.
Already in 2017, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (Adalah) reported that the community replacing Al-Hiran would be open only to “Jewish Israeli citizens or permanent residents who observe the Torah and commandments according to the values of Orthodox Judaism.”
An RCUV spokesperson, Nati Yefet, indicated that around a hundred police officers, accompanied by seven bulldozers, entered the village at around 3:30 a.m. Three residents, like many today resettled in the 12th neighborhood of the nearby town of Hura, were detained for nine hours. At the same time, the mosque was demolished.
“There is justice, and there is justice! A mosque and illegal buildings constructed in the village of Umm al-Hiran, in the Negev, were destroyed this morning by government tractors,” celebrated National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, a settler and avowed racist who oversees police forces, today on X.
“Since the beginning of the year, there has been a 400 percent increase in the issuance of demolition orders: Proud to lead a strong policy of destroying illegal houses in the Negev!” added Ben Gvir, who was convicted in 2007 for supporting a terrorist organization and incitement to racism.
Israel does not recognize, nor show on its maps, 36 semi-nomadic Bedouin villages that predate the establishment of this state in 1948. Only eleven have been recognized in the last two decades, but human rights organizations report they lack any basic infrastructure like water, electricity, or roads.
The Zionist government aims for some 350,000 Bedouins to abandon their agricultural lifestyle in the Negev and live in limited, impoverished urban areas. At least 190,000 Bedouins have already been forced to do so.
The government’s ‘Population Replacement’ program in the Negev seeks to displace around 9,000 Arab Bedouins from 14 villages and replace them with a similar number of Jewish settlements. Despite comprising nearly 40 percent of the Negev’s population, Bedouins have access to less than 10 percent of agricultural areas and less than 4 percent of the land.
“The destruction of Umm al-Hiran this morning exemplifies the face of institutionalized racism in its most extreme form. The triumphant statements by the Israel Land Authority are a punch to the gut, although, unfortunately, we expect nothing better from Ben Gvir, the Minister of National Security. It is incomprehensible that a government authority would openly boast about its discriminatory policies,” RCUV stated.
btw roughly my feelings as well. if china manages to rapidly sink carbon inputs in next 10 years (as seen on energy mix, so to like ~20% coal), they would be something akin to that. Everyone in africa will need solar, they won't give a shit it's made in china, it could feasibly be giant outlet of exports even under whatever tariffs will be invented (cars are luxury items after all)
You all think the next front will be in East Asia or even Southeast Asia, but just you wait. It will be in Central America when Guatemala finally takes Belize and El Salvador for ourselves, turning the wheels to bring back the Federal Republic of Central America.
Listen folks, I'm going to make Elon Musk, very handsome patrician, I'm going to make him the doge of Venice and it's going to be great. There's so much waste, the failing Castellani faction and sleepy Marino Faliero—they’ve wasted trillions of ducats, folks. Trillions! And they’ve been giving your tax ducats to illegal immigrants from the Papal States ro come here and make our canals unsafe at night. The crooked Castellanis even tried to frame me and send the Lords of the Night after me, even though I didn't do anything wrong.
We’re going to make Venice great again with Elon! He’s amazing—the most divorced man in Venice, his kids won't talk to him, very sad, but don’t be fooled. He’ll board the Bucentaur in full regalia, throw that golden ring into the sea every year—the best ring toss ever—marrying our serene republic to the sea. More efficient, more patriotic, better than anyone has ever tossed a ring.
It’s going to make life better for every Venetian. They told me, “Donald, you can’t do it! You can't make Elon the doge!” but I'm doing it folks, I'm doing it. He's going to be so great, like when he took over the town criers and put an X on their uniforms, even though all the haters and losers wanted to keep the silly bird. And now it is a huge success, folks. And that’s what he’ll do for Venice
German leader Olaf Scholz made a phone call to Putin on Friday. He's still nowhere near to abandoning the west's delusional demands of Russian surrender but at least he's opening up to the general concept of diplomacy.
This has made Zelensky and all the NATO ghouls very mad. One of these ghouls is noted war criminal Anders Fogh Rasmussen, formerly the head of NATO, and before that a catastrophic Liberal Party leader of Denmark. Currently he is an asset for American imperialism, providing shady "consultancy" services to some of Washington's most distasteful puppet regimes and businesses connected to American spy agencies.
It is completely unacceptable if Putin should get anything at all out of his adventure. Because then Xi Jinping (China's president, red.) will conclude: "If Putin can take the Crimean peninsula then I can take Taiwan". That is why we must make sure Putin is not successful in Ukraine.
This is what passes for serious statesman-like analysis in the west. Rasmussen did not mention how the American Bush regime's illegal and unprovoked full-scale invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, that Rasmussen himself was an accessory to as Danish PM, has helped create a precedence for unilateral military involvement in other countries.
Rejecting the idea of further diplomacy with Russia, Rasmussen goes on to say:
I think the most important thing we can do to m make peace in Ukraine is to deliver even more weapons to Ukraine and remove all restrictions on the weapons we give.
I am too lazy to look up whether he is in the pocket of the American military industrial complex but I would be more surprised to learn that he's not than to learn that he is. Anyways these are the kind of madmen they put in charge of western military bureaucracies.
The text was ready just in time for November 9. After all, the "traffic light" parties and the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag wanted to use the opportunity to misuse the commemoration of the Reichspogromnacht for a comprehensive attack on freedom of opinion, freedom of assembly, artistic freedom and academic freedom. Nothing else is behind the resolution with the misleading title "Never again is now: Protecting, preserving and strengthening Jewish life in Germany".
The pamphlet, which is to be passed by the Bundestag this Thursday, has nothing to do with the fight against anti-Semitism. After all, what use is it to Jews if the Bundestag is eloquently happy about the "diversity of Jewish life", but at the same time deliberately harasses them with the most stupid distortion possible: by equating the state of Israel and their religious community. This is exactly what happens in the resolution, which is emphatically based on the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) working definition of anti-Semitism, which defames criticism of Israeli policy as "anti-Semitic". Rejection of war and genocide or opposition to the illegal occupation policy thus fall outside the spectrum of permissible opinions. A great "diversity" that is being celebrated.
However, other groups are the main target of the resolution. "In recent months, the alarming extent of anti-Semitism based on immigration from the countries of North Africa and the Middle East has become clear," the text states. In addition, there is also an "increase in Israel-related and left-wing anti-imperialist anti-Semitism". The solution to this? Ampel and the CDU are calling for "loopholes in the law to be closed and repressive options to be consistently exploited". This applies "in particular to criminal law as well as residence, asylum and citizenship law".
The addressees of these remarks march in uniformed beatings squads, sit in courtrooms and offices. Dog-whistle politics is the term used when enemy images are named in disguise and released for firing. The resolution may not have the force of law, but it is a signal to the representatives of the "raison d'état" to strike without inhibition when they encounter supposed "anti-Semites" with the wrong religion, the wrong origin or the wrong - because anti-imperialist - convictions. The Springer newspaper "Welt" rightly hopes that this will lead to "a considerable toughening of the approach towards all those who agitate against Israel or against Jews". Anyone following the brutal police attacks on Palestine solidarity camps and demonstrations that are already taking place can easily imagine what will happen next.
But it is not only on the streets and in the immigration authorities that the "pace" is being stepped up. The resolution calls for further bans on associations against "extremist organizations". The internationally active BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) is explicitly mentioned. "Anti-Semitic behavior" at universities should be punished by "appropriate means". These include: "the application of domiciliary rights, exclusion from classes or studies and even de-registration". Funding for art and culture will only be available after an attitude test. Anyone who leans too far out of the window here with criticism - for example of German involvement in the genocide in Gaza - will quickly be out.
According to the will of the traffic-light-coalition and CDU, already severely restricted debating chambers will soon be closed completely. This is also attracting criticism from the middle classes. In the "Berliner Zeitung" newspaper, Olaf Zimmermann, Managing Director of the German Cultural Council, spoke out "against an obligation to make a statement when applying for cultural funding". Deutschlandfunk radio reported on confidential discussions with members of the Bundestag who had "followed the work on this resolution with grave misgivings, in some cases horror". They had felt under pressure from pro-Israeli lobby organizations and the Israeli embassy, among others, and were afraid of "being defamed as anti-Semites and Israel haters by the Bild newspaper".
The consequences of the resolution should therefore come as no surprise to anyone. Especially not for those who are hardened enough to push ahead with the reactionary-militaristic restructuring of the state under the title "Never again is now".
i know this is a somewhat older article but the ramifications for german anti-zionism are terrifying and should be brought to international attention.
At an investment conference in Kuala Lumpur recently, I caught up with an old friend and Gavekal client. Over coffee between sessions, we talked about one of the most visible changes of the last few years in Asia: the Chinese cars that have so quickly appeared on roads across the continent. This led us to the comments made in September by Ford chief executive officer Jim Farley. Freshly returned from a visit to China, Farley told The Wall Street Journal that the growth of the Chinese auto sector poses an existential threat to his company, and that “executing to a Chinese standard is now going to be the most important priority.” By any measure, this is an earth-shattering statement.
Making cars is complicated. Not as complicated as making airliners or nuclear power plants. But making cars is still the hallmark of an advanced industrial economy. So, the idea that China is suddenly setting the standards that others must now strive to meet is a sea-change compared with the world we lived in just five years ago.
This led my friend to question how Farley and other auto industry CEOs could have fallen quite so deeply asleep at the wheel. How could China so rapidly leapfrog established industries around the world without all those very well paid Western CEOs realizing what was happening until two minutes ago?
The rest of the piece continues in that more informal style, so I'll just summarize the rest of the article:
During the pandemic, and especially as the Ukraine War was causing chaos, nobody from the West really bothered to visit China, and so haven't seen how things have developed. This is in line with a Dengist strategy of keeping a low profile and not flaunting their capabilities, but it wasn't as if China was stopping them from visiting - CEOs just had other things to worry about with supply chain disruptions.
The author then basically says that China is doing capitalism better than the West, and now the West is (rather hilariously) backing away from jerking off the very concept of globalization and now think tariffs are awesome again.
Next, he talks about how the West has been pretty consistently racist against Asia throughout history, and these racist impulses still very much exist, so they would naturally underestimate China. There's also the fact that China is a communist state, and everybody in the West is brought up on anti-Soviet propaganda (the author doesn't use that word, unfortunately).
He moves on to explaining how the West is assuming that China = Japan 30 years ago, with inaccurate similarities drawn between their economic situations. The West is saying to itself that China will need to do massive fiscal stimulus to keep growing and get out of its "rut", but they don't seem to be considering if this rut is actually intentional, in order to bring down Chinese real estate and focus on more productive endeavors. This graph says it all:
There's no real conception that the collapse in real estate might actually be the policy and not the catastrophic consequence of like, communists not understanding Economics 101. The government explicitly said that this was the goal the entire time. Additionally, the property bust has hit the biggest cities the hardest, especially among millennials, but third and fourth tier cities are doing fairly well (the rural situation is complicated but dissatisfaction is concentrated in older people there). As the first and second tier cities are the most often visited by Westerners, their image of China is disproportionally negative. Meanwhile, in the third and fourth tier cities, there has been an industrial and transportation boom, which has gone almost unreported in the West.
Some more explanations for Western negativity include a general tendency to report bad news more than good news ("China is FIVE DAYS from TOTAL COLLAPSE!" gets more clicks than "Things are doing pretty good in China.") as well as China's lackluster stock market performance relative to its massive improvements, and Americans hyperfocus on stocks.
And, of course, the final contributing factor: that the US is pumping hundreds of millions of dollars to "...raise awareness of and increase transparency regarding the negative impact of activities related to the Belt and Road Initiative, associated initiatives, other economic initiatives with strategic or political purposes, and coercive economic practices.” via the Countering the PRC Malign Influence Fund Authorization Act.
Do we have any users here in The Netherlands? I’m curious to know how this Israeli football hooligan story is playing out with more non-political folks or those who at least didn’t stake out a position on Palestine before. From what little bits and pieces I have heard, it appears that no one is buying the story that the government and the media are pushing, and quite a few “normal” people are taking notice.
COP29 is going on and I've barely seen any coverage on it. I guess everyone realizes the COPs are so useless they're not even paying attention anymore.
Trump's batshit crazy cabinet actually proves that voting Trump was the correct accelerationist position. If you wanted to accelerate the downfall of American hegemony and the weakening of American institutions by appointing the biggest dumbasses on the planet, then you got your wish with this 2nd Trump admin. I sympathize with Americans comrades, but chickens come home to roost like the great martyr Malcolm X said.
Russians actually entered deep into Kupiansk, I can't believe my eyes. Actually insane development, I didn't expect this at all so quickly honestly. It says a lot about the state of Ukrainian defences at this point. The story of Kupiansk is very interesting and serves as a good blueprint of the future of how Ukrainian territories will be integrated into Russia. Russia took over Kupiansk without a fight in February 2022, because the mayor was an intelligent man who spared the city from unnecessary bloodshed by calling the Russian command and telling them that they're free to enter the city without needlessly destroying infrastructure and civilian life. Civilians stayed, got their wages from Moscow, repairs were done quickly, civilians didn't leave, schools switched to Russian which the population already spoke perfectly, and that angered western media so much. When the Ukrainians took back the city in September 2022, mass arrests took place and sob stories were planted in media. The city was turned into a military hellhole by the AFU and most civilians had to flee. Russia kinda stabbed those people in the back during that disastrous period, but that's another discussion.
Malcolm X’s family sues FBI, CIA and NYPD for $100m over his murder
Lawsuit alleges law enforcement agencies knew of plot to kill civil rights leader but did not act to stop it

The family of Malcolm X, the militant civil rights leader who was assassinated almost 60 years ago, filed a $100m federal lawsuit on Friday that accuses the FBI, the CIA and the New York police department (NYPD) of allowing his murder.
The lawsuit, brought by Malcolm X’s daughter Ilyasah Shabazz and other family members, alleges the law enforcement agencies concealed evidence they knew of the plot to kill him but did not act to stop it.
“We believe that they all conspired to assassinate Malcolm X, one of the greatest thought leaders of the 20th century,” Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney who is representing the family, said at a press conference.

The wrongful death lawsuit was announced at a memorial center on the site in New York City where Malcolm X was killed in 1965. It seeks to answer questions surrounding the assassination, and paint an accurate history of the events, Crump said.
It is also intended to bring reparations to the family. There was no comment from the FBI, the CIA or the NYPD by Friday afternoon.
“This cover up spanned decades, blocking the Shabazz family’s access to the truth and their right to pursue justice,” said Crump in a statement. “We are making history by standing here to confront those wrongs and seeking accountability in the courts.”
Malcolm X became prominent as the national spokesperson of the Nation of Islam, an African American Muslim group that espoused Black separatism.
After more than a decade with the group, he publicly broke with it in 1964. He moderated some of his earlier views on racial separation, angering some Nation of Islam members and drawing death threats.
Talmadge Hayer, then a member of the Nation of Islam, confessed in court to being one of the three assassins. But speculation that the government may have been aware of the assassination plan and allowed it to happen has persisted for decades.
Shabazz was two on 21 February 1965, when she, her mother and her siblings witnessed her father being shot and killed while preparing to speak at New York’s Audubon Ballroom in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan.

It has been widely speculated whether Trump's administration will be a lunatics clown show that has no concept of foreign policy or regular bloodthirsty neocons itching to start war on every continent.
Does the sudden uptick in support for Ukraine mean that the state have no trust in Trump and are trying to wrap things up before he comes?
As expected, the transphobic Moon of Alabama is the first 'right wing but anti war' website to make the beautiful argument that just because Trump is gonna appoint even bigger warmongerers and neocons than last time, that doesn't mean he'll listen to them. Looking forward to even more copium along the way.
In the Amazon, US President Joe Biden signed the document that creates the International Day of Conservation and also stipulated the resources that will be allocated to the Amazon Fund.
“At first, I thought I was fighting to save the rubber tappers. Then I realized I was fighting to save the Atlantic Forest and the rainforest, and then I realized I was fighting for humanity. (...) Today, I'm proud to be here.” - Joe Biden
Directly from the Amazon, US President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russian territory. These missiles are highly destructive and are supplied by the US. Previously, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, had suggested that if this were to happen, he might use nuclear weapons in response.
I've been seeing some libs claiming that apparently black women in the US are buying starbucks to "own the arabs" as revenge for not voting for kkkamala, anybody heard anything about it or are white libs just playing the divide and conquer game again to punish minorities for not bending to their will? Leaning on the latter but it sounded ridiculous enough to ask.

Acknowledging Lan's expression of remorse and pledge to compensate all the loss she had caused to the bank along with her contributions during the COVID-19 pandemic, the High-Level People's Procuracy in HCM City held that these mitigating factors could be used to ease part of the penalty for the charge of "violating lending regulations in the activities of credit organisations". It proposed the sentence be reduced from 20 years to 16 -18 years.
However, it said the mitigating factors were insufficient to warrant leniency on the charges of "fraudulent appropriation of property” and “giving bribes” as Lan had concurrently committed many particularly serious and organised wrongdoings.
The procurators said the death sentence for "fraudulent appropriation of property” should be upheld for Lan, who should aslo face a 20-year jail sentence for “giving bribes”. The combined sentence amounts to death penalty.
I also saw a live video of a pretty big pro-Māori march on tiktok. I believe it matches this nationwide 9-day march that is scheduled to arrive in Wellington on Tuesday:
The bill itself seeks to redefine how the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi which is apparently still the basis of the relationship between the crown and the Māori, although its interpretation is constantly evolving. The bill is being proposed by the right-wing ACT, which is a member of the current leading centre-right coalition. It would signficantly affect the rights and well-being of Māori communities according to activists.
Hopefully I am not missing anything huge or misrepresenting anything - this is just a hyperfixation i got onto after seeing the tiktok video. Hopeful that this bill will be defeated!
Dufour highlighted two assassination attempts against Mélenchon, noting that LFI officials have been subjected to ongoing harassment.
Melenchon, regularly threatened with death and having narrowly escaped a terrorist plot orchestrated by four neo-Nazis, condemned the ongoing threats against him and his colleagues on November 12. He described the current political climate as deeply "toxic," marked by a continuous campaign of vilification against members of his party.
New cope bopping around Western media about Israel's response to Operation True Promise 2. Very funny, because the "destroyed" is doing very heavy lifting here. Even the satellite photos that ultimately underline this claim (seen here) show a decidedly not destroyed nuclear weapons research facility, the bulk of which is almost certainly deep underground. What those photos do show is that Israeli strikes blew up like four above ground buildings in this complex, including one "Taleghan 2," which they claim
So taking this all together, Israel blew up a bunker that was used to test small explosives that hasn't been used since 2003. Really cool. Iran is fucked now folks, better watch out.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned and opposed the so-called “Maritime Zones Act” and “Archipelagic Sea Lanes Act,” signed into law by Philippine's President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
I can’t find any actual articles about it yet but infowars.com has been restored and (at least according to the aj twitter) this is because Elon musks lawyers intervened on his behalf.
No idea how this was blocked when they already had a damn auction set up but can’t say I’m terribly surprised
Is Trump basically handing DeSantis a Senate seat by picking Rubio for a Cabinet position?
DeSantis gets to pick Rubio’s replacement until the special election in 2026. 2026 is also when DeSantis gets term limited. So DeSantis can easily pick someone loyal to warm the seat for him and let him smoothly transition from Governor to Senator.
But didn’t Trump and DeSantis have issues? Does Trump realize he’s helping DeSantis?
Xi Jinping arrives in Peru to unveil the largest and most modern port in South America, built by China
"As early as more than 400 years ago, the people of China and Peru started friendly exchanges through the Maritime Silk Road and the Manila Galleons..."
"Through the wisdom of our civilizations, our minds find common ground and our hearts resonate... Peruvian thinker José Carlos Mariátegui once said, "Spiritually and materially, China is closer to us than Europe. The psychology of our people is more Asian than Western...""
"The world is undergoing faster transformation unseen in a century. Humanity has again come to a crossroads in history. To fully appreciate the grandeur of the Nazca Lines, we must view them from a height because at the ground level, their true splendor remains hidden from view.
To quote a Chinese poem to the same effect, 'Fear not the clouds that obscure your view, for you stand atop the highest summit.'
China is ready to join Peru in embracing a broader vision and grasping the underlying trends of our times from a long historical perspective to champion true multilateralism, promote an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and build together a community with a shared future for mankind."
Ecuador’s Indigenous confederation (CONAIE) has announced the beginning of an “uprising” against the neoliberal government of President Daniel Noboa. Mass outrage was triggered by months of constant electricity blackouts and inaction by the right-wing government.
All articles from the last day or so saying how azover it really is
Now, I'll believe a major foreign policy change from trump when I see it, but setting aside that uncertainty, it is notable that the liberal corporate media has switched gears to defeatism/realism like this. Too bad they didn't do that when the population of ukraine was 10m people higher, but here we are.
Maduro praises Lula after president says he won't question Venezuelan justice
After the diplomatic crisis with Brazil, the Venezuelan president said that the interview was “a point in Lula's favor”. The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said on Monday (11) that the Brazilian head of state, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), made a “wise reflection” when he said that he could not question the Venezuelan Supreme Court.
“I saw [Lula's statements] this morning, I thought it was very good. I agree with Lula. Each country has to find a way to resolve its issues, its conflicts, its problems. Brazil with its institutions and its national, sovereign dynamic, and Venezuela with our institutions and our sovereign dynamic too,” said the Chavista.
Maduro said he thought the Brazilian president's speech was “wise”. “I think it was a wise reflection by Lula, I could say: point in favor of Lula,” he praised.
“I don't have the right to question the Supreme Court of another country, because I don't want any country to question my Supreme Court, even when it makes mistakes. Even when it does as it did with me, not allowing me to be a candidate in 2018,” said the Brazilian president.
Aside from wokeness woo-woo, seems like adequate description (?). Only don't think it's even that contingent on trump winning tbh.
Also, gold crashed while bitcoin increased - what gives? Is the vibes of crypto president that much stronger than dollar strengthening? Or are crypto bros more in the dollar need to weaken zone?
Do we know what quadcopter this might be? I have never seen footage of a quadcopter with a gun used in combat yet the claim here is that this was happening day after day? The operational way they're using this must either be really sneaky or so fast in and out that they're never around long enough to be filmed.
In an opinion article in the El Peruano state newspaper, Xi said the Chancay project would generate $4.5 billion in annual revenues, create more than 8,000 direct jobs and reduce the logistics costs of the Peru-China route by 20%.
China's main motivation for developing the megaport, according to Ocharan, was access to neighboring Brazil, where a new railway line is planned to carry Brazilian exports such as soybeans and iron ore to the port.
The rail project is estimated to cost $3.5 billion, according to Mario de las Casas, corporate affairs manager at Cosco Shipping Chancay Peru.
The Onion acquisition of Infowars is delayed. The Infowars websites were down yesterday. They are all back online in the past hour. Alex Jones is posting on twitter that he's trying to delay the auction until Matt Gaetz becomes Attorney General, so that Alex Jones can maintain ownership of Infowars.
So, now that the election is over. I would expect Russia to really press their advantage in UKR. That or just sit back and keep watching UKR step on rakes.

Continuing their state-protected tour of violence, dozens of Israeli fans beat a french fan in the stands of the France v Israel match the other night. Some media has framed it as 'booing and clashes' but more and more videos from the game have been appearing since then.
Police and security did little to nothing to stop the violence as fans further down the stands looked on helplessly, but arrested French fans trying to get others out of the mob of Israeli hooligans. After the match an Israeli fan in an IDF tee shirt was interviewed by the French media grinning and saying the level of security was "wonderful, magnificent, maybe too much even" before pointing out that they had a "small incident in Block K" which they dealt with "directly". There's also video of French fans showing police and security, with video evidence on their phones, that the Israel fans were the aggressors. Of course they were ignored.
Macron and other French ministers were at the match to "show their support for fighting anti-semitism" after Amsterdam. They didn't mention or condemn the Israeli violence against French fans afterward from what I can see.
When the leaders of European states repeatedly and reflexively defend Israeli violence against and above their own citizens as victims - in countries that are already sliding ever-rightward - they're pouring fuel on the kindling of actual antisemitism. It's going to end very badly indeed.
Bolivian President Luis Arce celebrated his fourth anniversary in power, highlighting achievements in foreign policy and industrialization of lithium, while facing internal divisions in the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) and criticism from his predecessor, Evo Morales.
Upon completing four years as president of Bolivia, Luis Arce highlighted in his message to the country the admission of Bolivia into the BRICS as one of the greatest achievements of his foreign policy. However, the celebrations also highlighted the political tensions that run through the government, with an open confrontation between Arce and former president Evo Morales, who launched strong criticism of the current government.
During his speech from the historic Murillo Plaza, Arce stressed the importance of Bolivia’s recent incorporation into the BRICS group, made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Bolivia enters as an associated state, a condition that the president valued as a fundamental step to position the country in the international arena.
“It is without a doubt the most important achievement of our diplomacy, since it places us on the world stage,” said Arce. This advance in foreign policy was consolidated after the meeting he held in October with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the BRICS summit in Kazan, where both leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation projects and agreed on Bolivia’s entry into the bloc.
Regarding economic achievements, Arce highlighted the boost given to the industrialization of lithium, one of Bolivia’s most valuable resources, and the reactivation of oil exploitation. In his message, he urged the Plurinational Legislative Assembly (ALP) to approve the external credits and contracts necessary to develop this strategic industry. These projects, the president stressed, are fundamental for the Bolivian economy and, in his opinion, will open new opportunities for development in the coming years.
Arce, who was Minister of Economy during the Morales administration, also highlighted the efforts of his government to stabilize the country’s economy despite the difficulties. In this regard, he said that Bolivia has faced obstacles in its economic growth, including a 24-day period of blockades organized by sectors related to Morales.
However, the Bolivian president assured that economic recovery and social stability are priorities of his administration for the coming years. Despite these advances, the fourth anniversary of Arce’s mandate also highlighted the growing division within the Movement for Socialism (MAS).
During the session of the Legislative Assembly called to commemorate this day, Vice President David Choquehuanca was received with tomatoes and shouts by legislators related to Evo Morales, who blocked access to the legislative headquarters and prevented the vice president from speaking and the president’s speech in Congress.
This incident led Arce to take his message to Murillo Square. In his speech, Arce condemned the acts of vandalism and accused the “Evo” bloc of not having the will to dialogue. “We condemn the attacks on the vice president. What we have witnessed is one of the most shameful chapters of the Bolivian Legislative Assembly,” said the president.
For his part, and through a message published on his social networks, former president Morales launched strong accusations against the Arce government, which he described as a betrayal of the founding principles of the MAS.
Morales stated that the current president “was committed to raising the economy and sank it,” and accused him of acting in an “authoritarian and repressive” manner.
He also pointed out that the Arce government has divided and privileged certain leaders of social movements to consolidate its position. For Morales, the Arce administration is neoliberal in economic terms, anti-popular in social terms, and focuses on “outlawing the MAS and disqualifying Evo.”
Amid these tensions, Arce began his fifth year of government with a ceremony in honor of Pachamama, accompanied by national authorities and Vice President Choquehuanca. In a message of optimism, the president assured that “better days are coming for the Bolivian people” and reaffirmed his commitment to continue working on projects that promote the development of the country.
Elon Musk responds to Brazlian First Lady Rosângela da Silva, who criticized him at the social G-20. “They will lose the next election”, said Musk. Janja spoke out against the billionaire. “Fuck you, Elon Musk,” she said.
Pro-Morales lawmakers carried out actions that prevented the start of the legislative session. On Friday, President Luis Arce was unable to deliver his fourth annual report in the Bolivian parliament because legislators allied with former President Evo Morales violently disrupted the legislative session.
Bolivian Vice President David Choquehuanca, who also presides over the Legislative Assembly, was about to begin the parliamentary session when a group of legislators from the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) approached the main stage.
Pro-Morales legislators destroyed a floral arrangement placed in front of the stage and threw tomatoes and water at Choquehuanca, while his security team tried to shield him with a jacket.
The Bolivian vice president eventually left the venue, and the session could not be convened. A few minutes later, President Arce responded to the events on social media.
The text reads, “The legislators of the Evista wing were involved in an embarrassing situation when they began to cause damage to the Plurinational Legislative Assembly and threw flowers, water and tomatoes at Vice President David Choquehuanca.”
“Unfortunately, today we witnessed yet another act of vandalism led by the Evista bloc in the Legislative Assembly. Once again, through its actions, the Evismo shows that it has no willingness for dialogue or to abandon its violent attitudes, which are causing so much harm to our country. We condemn the attacks on David Choquehuanca, the Vice President of the Republic and President of the Legislative Assembly; Omar Yujra, the president of the Chamber of Deputies; and the representatives and senators who were once again attacked by the Evismo,” Arce said.
“What we saw will go down in history as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the Legislative Assembly, led by the Evista bloc. We want to tell the world that what we saw is not who we Bolivians are, nor does it represent popular sentiment. What the world witnessed was a group of Evo Morales followers who continue to harm our homeland to impose an unconstitutional candidacy and to seek impunity in their legal processes,” he emphasized.
“We apologize to the Bolivian people and the international community for the shameful events today in the Plurinational Legislative Assembly,” President Arce concluded. On Friday, following the events that took place in the Legislative Assembly, President Arce delivered his report to the nation from a platform raised in Murillo Plaza.
I feel silly for asking this but can someone please give me a cliffs notes summary of what's going on in the Russia/Ukraine War since 2022? I just need a really quick run through so I don't feel completely lost when I read the news thread lol.
I have invented a new word: reactionize (-izing, -ized)
I am sick of people using the word "radical" to mean picking up extreme/out-of-the-box reactionary ideology. Fuck that. Don't let them have our adjective, even in a verb or participle form.
Pretty sure this counts as news, as it is at least novel. I used this word for the first time a few minutes ago on Reddit, and I guarantee you that—unlike every other thought I've ever had that turned out to be a duplicate of someone's previous one—this is unique and never-before-seen and I will not accept information to the contrary.
DALLAS, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Ongoing economic growth, a solid job market, and inflation that remains above its 2% target mean the Federal Reserve does not need to rush to lower interest rates, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said on Thursday in remarks that may point to borrowing costs remaining higher for longer for households and businesses alike. Powell affirmed that he and his fellow policymakers still consider inflation to be "on a sustainable path to 2%" that will allow the U.S. central bank to move monetary policy "over time to a more neutral setting" that isn't meant to slow the economy.
But what that neutral rate might be in the current environment and how quickly the Fed might try to reach it all remain up in the air, particularly as central bankers assess both the ongoing strength of the economy and the impact the incoming Trump administration's policies, from higher tariffs to less immigrant labor, may have on economic growth and inflation.
This just in - the rate cut might not be happening so soon after all, which means the US recession might get postponed for quite some time.
Interesting move… still waiting to see what follows after this, especially how Elon Musk is going to do the whole deficit cuts thing.
Does anyone know what's going on with the election in Puerto Rico? Last I heard things were close between the pro-independence and pro-statehood parties
WASHINGTON — The House of Representatives blocked H.R. 9495, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, 256-145. Because the House of Representatives was attempting to move the bill on suspension it required a two-thirds majority in order to pass. This legislation would have granted the Secretary of Treasury the unilateral power to investigate and effectively shut down any tax-exempt organization — including news outlets, universities, and civil society groups — by stripping them of their tax-exempt status based on an unilateral accusation of wrongdoing.
Russians have entered the central districts of Kupiansk, Chasiv Yar and Kurakhove, all within 3-4 days. Insane pace compared to just a few months ago. All three advances will completely reshape the upcoming year of the war in Ukraine. Taking eastern Kupiansk will collapse the north Oskol front for Ukraine and force a withdrawal from a significant chunk of land. The fall of Kurakhove will force a withdrawal from south Donetsk into less fortified regions, which will most likely mean that Russia enters Dnipro Oblast for the first time in early 2025. And the fall of Chasiv Yar means that Russia will control the highest points in the whole Donetsk region and will open up an opportunity to basically roll down from the hills of Chasiv Yar into the Kramatorsk - Konstantinivka line. We're firmly in the opening stages of a complete collapse of the AFU now, the way that the Kupiansk offensive has happened was unthinkable a few months ago. Russians just drove like 5km deep into Ukrainian lines with basically no resistance and could then reinforce that opening quite easily. All that is happening while Russia have seized border villages with no resistance in Chernihiv and Kharkov Oblasts, and have also started a new offensive in Zaporozhye/Donetsk close to the strong fortified towns of Velika Novosilka, Gulaypole and Orikhiv. Disastrous situation for the AFU.
Ironic that I am posting something with this title as an anarchist, but apparently its use of the word is also somewhat ironic. LOL. Anyway, very good discussion: Tankie Therapy Session #26: Liberals are the problem
US President elect Donald Trump has promised Tel Aviv that as soon as he takes office he will remove any "delays" or "restrictions" on the supply of military equipment and ammunition to Israel.
Its proximity to BRICS+ member South Africa may also be significant, noting the colour revolution in Bangladesh earlier this year exerting influence near India and China.
South Africa has already deployed troops as part of a force to fight the ISIS affiliates located there for years now, this was after Wagner failed operationally there. (Yes, that Wagner PMC ). Though it's questionable if we're deployed there to actually fight terrorism, or just protect the oil and gas fields for Total in a sub-imperialist role. As an eternal pessimist, I'd bet on sub-imperialism.
genuinely surprised that the guardian is still talking about this as the original framing falls apart. Still not a good article, but some super surprising admittances to find here.
So what do you think Trump's policy towards Ukraine will be? Will he continue with aid, but in a limited capacity? Will he cut off all aid? Will he give much more aid than the Democrats and become a total supporter of Ukraine? While Trump, from what I remember, said he was going to push for a peace treaty, that was during the campaign. Now that he is the President things will change. I believe the MIC made a lot of money in Ukraine, and they go the chance to test some stuff against Russian stuff. I believe he will attempt to continue the war a bit longer, until he gets a peace deal where he can been seen as in a good position.
The MAS leader went on hunger strike to pressure for the release of social activists detained during road protests. On Friday, former Bolivian President Evo Morales ended his hunger strike after his supporters announced a temporary suspension of road blockades to begin talks with President Luis Arce’s administration.
After six days, the leader of the Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) ended a hunger strike he had started to pressure Arce into initiating discussions on the release of nearly 100 social activists who were detained during 24 days of road protests.
Morales is also demanding that the judicial proceedings against him for alleged human trafficking and statutoryremoved be stopped, and that he be allowed to run as a presidential candidate in the 2025 elections.
Next Sunday, the Pact of Unity, a coalition of social and political organizations supporting Morales, will hold a meeting to assess the progress of the dialogue with representatives of the Arce administration.
The image shows Evo Morales (3R) and other social activists on a hunger strike. The text reads, “The leader said that a meeting will be held to evaluate the 72-hour recess. The resumption of the blockades is not ruled out.” Dieter Mendoza, secretary of the Mamore Bulo Bulo Federation, which represents coca growers, stated that the Pact of Unity will reactivate the road blockades if the detained are not immediately released.
“We have always viewed Brother Morales as a leader in the struggle since his days as an activist. And this time was no exception,” Mendoza emphasized, referring to the hunger strike upheld by the MAS leader. “If our demands are not met within the next 72 hours, we will resume the road blockades,” he added.
The dialogue between the Arce administration and Bolivian social organizations began on Friday at the offices of the Ombudsman, where representatives from both sides set up working groups to address issues related to the economic and political crisis in the Andean country.
“We will not address matters related to electoral institutions or the authorization of candidacies. Those issues fall under the jurisdiction of other institutions,” said Deputy Minister of Autonomy, Alvaro Ruiz.
Xi Jinping and Biden to meet in Peru amid transport strike in the country
Presidents of China and the United States participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in the Peruvian capital. Apec aims to promote the free exchange of products between member countries. Biden and Xi are expected to discuss the war in Ukraine, protection against cyber attacks and communication between the two countries' militaries.
Trump has already announced that his Secretary of State will be Marco Rubio. He will be responsible for guiding US foreign policy and is in favor of putting pressure on China. As a senator, he advocated aid to Taiwan, measures to restrict Chinese commercial operations in the United States and punishments against Beijing for the way it treats Hong Kong and the Uighur minority.
While the meeting between the two is fraught with tension over the question of what Trump's stance will be in the US-China trade war, the summit is also taking place in the midst of a general strike by Peruvian transport workers. Demonstrators closed several roads in the country and gathered in the capital Lima to protest and march peacefully.
This is the second strike by Peruvian transport workers in a month. In October, Peruvians held a 72-hour general strike to demand government measures to guarantee the safety of taxi drivers, truck drivers, bus drivers and transport workers in general. They denounce a series of extortions and murders committed against these workers by criminal groups, which have resulted in 9 workers being murdered in these conditions.
According to the government, 5,600 soldiers have been deployed to operate on the roads and 13,000 police officers are working in the capital on behalf of Apec. This is the third summit the Peruvian city has hosted. The country's Congress has also authorized the temporary entry of 600 US military personnel to work during the summit. Until the publication of this report, the cities of Cusco and Puno had seen the biggest protests. These two cities are strategic for access to Bolivia.
The demonstrators are calling for Law 32.108, which changed the definition of organized crime in the country, to be overturned. The regulation was approved by Dina Boluarte's government and determined that a group of three or more people “with a complex structure and greater operational capacity to commit serious crimes, with the aim of obtaining, directly or indirectly, control of the value chain of an illegal economy or market” would be considered a criminal organization.

The FBI has raided the home of Shayne Coplan, CEO of Polymarket, a politics betting platform - NY Post (archive.ph)
It’s “grand political theater at its worst,” the source told The Post. “They could have asked his lawyer for any of these things. Instead, they staged a so-called raid so they can leak it to the media and use it for obvious political reasons.”
Coplan was not provided any reason for the incident, but the source said they expect it is political retribution since Polymarket accurately predicted Trump’s win – not traditional polls.
The government is likely trying to accuse Polymarket of market manipulation and rigging its polls in favor of Trump, the source said.
This "source" is an idiot lmao. I'm sure the raid has nothing to do with the fact that they flagrantly accept bets in cryptocurrency to bypass financial regulations.
A large protest against budget cuts in higher education in The Netherlands that was planned for tomorrow in Utrecht has been cancelled due to (paraphrasing:) ‘threats of violence by pro Palestine protesters who planned to hijack the protest.’
This can not be seen without the context of the unrest in Amsterdam last week. Dutch media and politicians have been trying really hard this past week to paint anti genocide protesters in a very bad light, and this situation is no different. Several pro Palestine organisations have stated that they stand wholeheartedly behind the protests against the budget cuts and were joining to show their support. People are speculating that this support is being framed as hijacking now by the mayor of Utrecht and the police.
President-elect Donald Trump, addressing House Republican leaders at a Washington hotel on Wednesday, quipped that he "can't get rid of" Elon Musk, perhaps his most influential advisor during the presidential campaign.
"Elon won't go home. I can't get rid of him—at least until I don't like him," Trump joked, acknowledging Musk's growing presence in his inner circle. "He's behaving as if he's a co-president and making sure everyone knows it," one of the sources told NBC News.
Since this is "apparently" (no need to source anything if you use this word by the way) now the place to put stuff that won't get engagement on Formerly Twitter:
Is it true the global economy will collapse if Iran strikes regional oil assets? State your reasoning below.
seems like abkhazia (one of those georgian breakaway statelets) had protests and a coup (?). Kinda weird stuff, over investments or something with russia. Probably could be read as not wanting to sell their land or something
Just weeks after China’s President Xi Jinping signed off on a BRICS communique that included a call for reducing use of the dollar, his finance ministry was marketing sovereign bonds denominated in — wait for it — US dollars.
Actions speak louder than words, as the old saying goes. For all the de-dollarization fervor, Beijing is demonstrating that it remains dedicated, or at least resigned, to continuing to use greenbacks in international finance.
China’s government has no real dollar-funding need itself, so one of the main motivations is to offer benchmarks for Chinese banks and corporations to price their own bonds off of. Dollar-denominated securities are appealing to Chinese borrowers because they can access a broader pool of investors than at home. Some Chinese investors also like dollar investments to park their funds offshore.
High rates and a run of defaults cast a shadow over the Chinese dollar debt market for a time, and the government held off on sovereign issuance in 2022 and 2023. In September, when Beijing for the first time in three years sold its first new sovereign bonds in euros — popular lately with Asian corporate issuers — the question was whether dollars would also resume.
This year’s dollar sale came with a twist: the securities were sold in Saudi Arabia, not Hong Kong as was done in the past. Which also tells a story. First, it demonstrates China’s increasing connections with the Middle Eastern oil giant, which is building its own international financial hub in capital city Riyadh.
Fans of de-dollarization have for years awaited a move by oil exporters to shift their pricing of crude to Chinese yuan, at least when it’s shipped to China. But dreams of a petro-yuan always ran into a key challenge: what would Saudi Arabia and others do with the Chinese currency? China itself maintains capital controls, which makes it awkward for any investor interested in liquidity.
This week’s China dollar bond sale suggests a solution: keep on pricing the oil in dollars, and build out an offshore dollar bond market in Riyadh, with China’s help.
Whatever the longer-term intentions, investors loved the deal: bids were some 20 times the $2 billion of bonds on offer and they were sold for a razor thin margin over similar-maturity Treasuries.
Unfortunately saw this coming for a while now. Nothing’s good gonna happen when Saudi Arabia is involved. I have said before that Saudi Arabia (not in BRICS yet) is going to play the role of dollarizing BRICS, not dedollarizing it.
China’s economy is going to do fine, but de-dollarization and challenging US imperialism are going to take a back seat for now.
More News about the Far-Right Terrorist Attack in Brazil
A witness was standing at the bus stop in front of the STF and, according to her, a man walked past with a bag and waved it. Then she heard the first explosion. When she looked up, the man had thrown something near the statue of Justice and fell.
The vehicle loaded with fireworks that exploded in the parking lot of Annex IV of the Chamber of Deputies is from the municipality of Rio do Sul, Santa Catarina (Southern Brazil, Far-Right State). The car is registered to Francisco Wanderley Luiz, but it is not known if he is the victim of the explosion.
“The first hypothesis is that a man threw an explosive device at the Supreme Court, exactly near the statue, under the marquee. He threw it and then lay down under the marquee, the device exploded and he was hit on the head.”
“The police are still carrying out forensics at the scene, so we can't determine if there are any other explosives in the perimeter, (...) but what we have now is a preliminary hypothesis of an isolated act. (...) The dead man has a connection with the attack,” says Natuza Nery about the explosions in front of the STF building.
The Federal District Military Police found a vehicle packed with explosive devices in the parking lot of Annex 4 of the Chamber of Deputies, near the Supreme Court. It's the same car that exploded around eight o'clock in the evening in the area around the Supreme Court.
According to Metrópoles' findings, the owner of the car that exploded this evening in Praça dos Três Poderes was a candidate for councillor in 2020, for the PL (Liberal Party, Far-Right, Bolsonaro's Party). A record taken from the Facebook page of “Tiü Franca”, the codename of the car's owner, alludes to a potential attempt on his life.
The Federal District Civil Police and the Institutional Security Office (GSI, Brazil's NSA) are sweeping the vicinity of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary headquarters on Wednesday night. A sweep is also taking place at the Alvorada Palace, where President Lula is staying. With screenshots of messages sent to himself via WhatsApp, Francisco published, at the beginning of the night, what seemed to be an announcement of what was to come. “Let's play??? Federal Police, you have 72 hours to defuse the bomb that is in the house of the fucking communists,” reads one of the texts.
In a threatening tone, another printout reads: “Be careful when opening drawers, cupboards, shelves, material storage, etc.”. It went on to indicate the supposed start time of the explosions: “Start: 17:48 on 13/11/2024. The game ends on 16/11/2024. Good luck!” The man who died during the explosions at the STF was wearing a jacket with playing cards, possibly a reference to the Joker character from DC Comics.
I was checking his Facebook and his election page: He's married, works as a locksmith and his nickname is “E.T.”. His posts look like a shitpost from some Hearts of Iron fan lol. He claims to be an alien, that God and the aliens are on his side, that killing himself would lead to a right-wing revolution (something the oklahoma bomber also believed in, I wonder if that comes from the Turner Diaries?) He says he hates Drex (which is like the future virtual money of Brazil that doesn't even exist yet).
He posted anti-Maduro stuff (I have no idea why, I think he lives for free in these people's minds). And he attacked Lula as usual, talked about the Moon and how Trump needs to save Brazil with the FBI against pedophiles (something about Operation Storm? I have no idea what that is).
He attacks General Tomás Paiva (leader of the Armed Forces, who is just a normal guy that Bolsonaro hates because he didn't agree with the coup attempt in 2023), has a meltdown about the presidents of Congress and the Senate, and then something about Abin (Brazil's CIA). And then he's angry about Lula's tax reform, saying it's communism because Lula said he would also tax the rich.
He finished by attacking a guy named José Dirceu, who Wikipedia says is a former Workers' Party politician who recently gave interviews, and I don't think this guy liked that. He also said he hates Jose Sarney (1980's Conservative Brazilian President, first civilian after the dictatorship, hates Bolsonaro, dude is like 100 years old lol), Geraldo Alkmin (Vice-President, Former Rival of Lula, known on the Internet for posting memes and wojaks), William Bonner (Some Journalist?) and FHC (1990's Neoliberal President, Former Rival of Lula, hates Bolsonaro)
Trump announced Tuesday that Musk and Ramaswamy would lead his “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), an initiative meant to “slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures” and restructure federal agencies.
The president-elect described the encounter as a “pleasant moment” and emphasized that, despite political tensions, it is possible to find moments of respect and cordiality.
In a historic meeting, President-elect Donald Trump and outgoing President Joe Biden gathered this Wednesday in the Oval Office, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful transition of power following the recent presidential elections.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, with Trump thanking Biden for his willingness to facilitate a smooth transfer of power. The president-elect described the encounter as a “pleasant moment” and emphasized that, despite political tensions, it is possible to find moments of respect and cordiality.
During the conversation, Biden and Trump discussed the necessary preparations to ensure that the transition proceeds as smoothly as possible. Trump stressed his commitment to collaborating so that his administration receives the resources and support needed to assume office effectively.
The meeting occurred shortly after Trump met with members of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives, where he addressed the importance of maintaining the party’s majority in Congress. In this meeting, Trump announced that he would not be making any further appointments to his cabinet at this time to avoid any negative impact on party cohesion. So far, he has named Elise Stefanik, a representative from New York, and Michael Waltz from Florida to occupy key positions in his administration.
Although no questions from the press were allowed during the meeting, the gesture from both leaders is seen as a positive step toward a democratic and orderly transition, a fundamental principle in American politics. The meeting marks a significant moment in an electoral cycle marked by divisions but now focusing on unity and institutional respect.
Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez highlighted the previous work of 13 subcommittees and announced future developments in Russian gas fields in Venezuela.
Venezuela and Russia consolidated their bilateral cooperation on Thursday by signing various strategic agreements during the eighteenth meeting of the High Level Intergovernmental Commission, held in Caracas with the participation of the Russian Vice Prime Minister, Dmitry Chernyshenko.
The most notable agreements include memoranda of understanding between the state oil companies PDVSA and Rosneft for training and technical advice on energy security. In addition, an agreement was established with TNG Group for oil services and extra-heavy crude oil recovery technology in the Orinoco Oil Belt, a region that houses important hydrocarbon reserves over a 600-kilometer stretch.
In terms of security, both nations signed an agreement on intelligence, counterintelligence and counterespionage. The aeronautical sector also benefited from an agreement between Conviasa and RT Project Technologies SA for the development of information technologies.
«Venezuela remains a strategic partner and powerful ally of Russia in the region,» Chernyshenko said during the meeting, emphasizing the importance of «improving the structure of the economy and diversifying it to form a sustainable and self-sufficient economic model.»
For her part, Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez highlighted the previous work of 13 subcommittees and announced future developments in Russian gas fields in Venezuela. «May this new edition allow for a new model to make us more independent, to make us more sovereign,» she said.
The Russian ambassador to Venezuela, Sergei Melik, had anticipated on Wednesday that both countries would build new financial, commercial and logistical links to face international sanctions, mainly from the United States.
Seems like the US is trying to create a new israel - Zalengam- it will include parts of Bangaldesh, India and the Kachin region of Myanmar and will be an evangelical bastion to attack China. I was suspecting when Myanmar would receive more direct attention from the US.
"Let me be clear: UAP are real," he wrote. "Advanced technologies not made by our Government — or any other government — are monitoring sensitive military installations around the globe. Furthermore, the U.S. is in possession of UAP technologies, as are some of our adversaries."
I honestly think our timeline is dumb enough not to exclude the future of the US going to war with China over accusations of it harboring extraterrestrial technology lmao the savages can’t possibly have better tech than us without help from the underwater aliens!!

Elon Musk may already be overstaying his welcome in Trump's orbit
Musk has been a near-constant presence at Mar-a-Lago, where he has sat in on important meetings and calls.
The sources said Musk’s near-constant presence at Mar-a-Lago in the week since Election Day had begun to wear on people who’ve been in Trump’s inner circle longer than he has and who see him as overstepping his role in the transition. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they’re not authorized to speak publicly.
“He’s behaving as if he’s a co-president and making sure everyone knows it,” one of the people said.
“And he’s sure taking lots of credit for the president’s victory. Bragging about America PAC and X to anyone who will listen. He’s trying to make President Trump feel indebted to him. And the president is indebted to no one,” this person added.
This was the reaction from a South Korean intelligence official upon hearing the news that the night before 40 North Korean soldiers were discovered dead in Ukraine.
On Monday night, domestic media outlets reported that 40 North Korean soldiers died in combat. Earlier in the afternoon that day, Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, posted on Telegram: “The first North Korean troops have already come under fire in Kursk Oblast.” Shortly afterward, a high-ranking figure in the Ukrainian presidential office told a South Korean media outlet that North Korean soldiers had begun fighting, and that deaths had already occurred.
What’s important is that the initial report came from the head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation. Disinformation refers to doctored or false information deliberately propagated by a state actor to maliciously influence another country. In the initial stages of the war, the Ukrainian government posted a video of the “Ghost of Kyiv,” a legendary fighter pilot who allegedly shot down six Russian fighter jets in 30 hours. Yet the actual existence of such a pilot has never been confirmed.
Considering such developments, South Korean intelligence officials have adopted a skeptical stance when it comes to reports from Ukraine. It’s gotten to the point where Korean intelligence officials are telling reporters to hold off on relaying reports about North Korean troops from Ukrainian officials until they receive third-party confirmation, because Ukraine makes “fake news” at the state level. This means we have to carefully consider the source of the information and the intentions behind it.
Russia has been doing consistent simulated missile launches with bombers for the past 5 or so days, while Geran drones fly around Ukrainian airspace. Sometimes they actually launch a few missiles, but nowhere near the usual amount. They actually launched just a singular Kh-101 stealth cruise missile the other day. They're also using unusual numbers and types of planes (7 Tu-160 bombers tonight!).
This account has the best coverage: https://t.me/s/AMK_Mapping . Seems like they have sources inside Ukraine's air defense units.
As many as 17 Tu-95s are now airborne, all of which have combined into one group, heading south to the potential launch lines in Saratov Oblast.
I have a feeling tonight is gonna be another fake-out, but maybe that's what they want us (Ukraine) to think
Update: Maybe not a fake-out?
As many as 20 Kalibrs were reportedly launched from the Novorossiysk port. They will arrive in around 40 minutes.
Seems like something big might be happening.
16 Tu-95's
7 Tu-160's
4 Su-34's (could carry missiles)
4 ships in the Black Sea
Iskander ballistic missiles
Missiles are now making impact. Things look mostly aimed at Kiev so far.
Here is the press statement from The Onion about purchasing Infowars. It says that the Onion plans to completely transition Infowars into a new website by January 2025. I think this is a screenshot of an email maybe. The twitter account Maxwell Tani is a journalist from semafor.com .
The Onion's goal with the acquisition is to end Infowars' relentless barrage of disinformation for the sake of selling supplements and replace it with The Onion's relentless barrage of humor for good. "The Onion is proud to acquire Infowars, and we look forward to continuing its storied tradition of scaring the site's users with lies until they fork over their cold, hard cash," said The Onion's CEO Ben Collins. "Or Bitcoin. We will also accept Bitcoin."
I’m so tired. Social media has pivoted again to chronicling all the illegal (boring) shit Trump is doing in the lead up to his Presidency. I’m learning about every evil ghoul to ever grace the Washington circuit, against my will.
More than half of the Senate's Republican senators are saying off the record that they see no chance of approving the nomination of former Congressman Matt Gaetz for the post of attorney general of the United States, reports NBC.
Gaetz resigned as a congressman last Wednesday, just days before the House Ethics Council voted to impeach him in an investigation into sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. As attorney general, Gaetz would be in control of the files detailing the evidence uncovered by the FBI
What you people think? I thought he had more chances of being approved than people like Elon Musk and RFK JR. since he already is a Republican.
Two explosions near Brazil’s supreme court are ‘suicide attack’: authorities. Two explosions have taken place near Brazil’s Supreme Court in what authorities say is a suicide attack, CNN Brasil reports.
One person was killed in the explosions, CNN Brasil said, citing the Executive Secretary for Public Safety of Brasilia. It is unclear if the person is the alleged attacker.
Military police are now sweeping the area. Citing a Supreme Court spokesperson, CNN Brasil reports that federal security police are on the scene and the Three Powers Plaza, which is home to all three branches of Brazil’s government, has been blocked off.
CNN Brasil said the court’s justices had been evacuated following the explosions in the capital Brasilia.
An update on the dutch education protests (mentioned here by @Beetle@hexbear.net ): In the end student unions and the youth wings of the socialist party and the communist party said they would go anyway to the protest. The police (that yesterday said they couldn't guarantee the safety) said today that they will facilitate the protest so there was no ban. The labor unions still asked people not to go. In the end around 3-4k people gathered (mostly students and some university employees), which I think was very good given the circumstances. Some universities decided to host local protest on campuses (but as far as I can tell those were small). The university staff and unions are calling for another protest on the 25th of November.
The Biden administration will continue to provide military support to Israel despite its failure to meet a U.S. deadline for increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza. A report from humanitarian organizations indicated that Israel did not fulfill most of the U.S. demands.
The U.S. State Department stated it has not found evidence of Israel violating U.S. law, despite reports of ongoing humanitarian crises in Gaza. Humanitarian groups criticized the U.S. decision, highlighting severe shortages of aid and ongoing violence against civilians.
The situation in Gaza remains dire, with reports of high malnutrition rates and limited access to medical care. As the deadline passed, Israeli airstrikes continued, resulting in civilian casualties and further displacement.
The Far-Right Terrorist, member of the Liberal Party (Far-Right, Conservative, Bolsonaro's Party), who attacked the Brazilian Supreme Court had an explosives belt around his body and was dressed as the Joker.
*Javier Milei speaks with US president-elect Donald Trump, who reportedly describes Argentine leader as “his favourite president”; La Libertad Avanza leader will travel to Republican’s Florida resort on Thursday to attend CPAC forum. *
President Javier Milei declared Tuesday that the United States is “copying” Argentina’s “model,” just hours before he spoke with US president-elect Donald Trump. Milei, 53, revealed that one of his top ministers has held talks with billionaire tycoon Elon Musk, who may win a place in Trump’s incoming government after strongly backing the former reality TV star’s run for the White House.
Argentina’s President made the remarks just two days before he is due to fly to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida for a event staged by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Milei is expected to meet Trump and Musk while in Florida.
“I understand that it is through lower taxes and not through spurious devaluations that impoverish the population that competitiveness is achieved. In the United States they have already realised this and are copying our model,” Milei said Tuesday at an event organised by the technology company Meta in Buenos Aires.
“In fact, Musk is in talks with [Deregulation & State Transformation Minister] Federico Sturzenegger to see how to deregulate the US economy,” he revealed, referring to his minister in charge of reducing the size of the state. The comments came just hours before Milei spoke with Trump via telephone.
Manuel Adorni, Milei’s spokesperson, revealed in a post on X that the “President of the Nation Javier Milei had a telephone conversation with the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump.” In his message, the spokesperson revealed details of the 10-minute private call. “You are my favourite president,” Adorni claimed Trump told Milei during their talks.
Trump will 100% impose tariffs on argentinian goods anyways lmao.
Upon learning of Trump's victory last week, Milei congratulated him through messages on Instagram and X. “You know you can count on Argentina to make America great again,”’ he wrote in one of them. Since taking office a year ago, MIlei’s government has embarked upon a fierce austerity campaign, slimming the government, paralysing public works projects, cutting subsidies and laid off more than 30,000 public sector staff on contracts.
Milei spares no praise for both Trump and Musk, the world's richest person and who is expected to wield significant influence in the next US government. By attending the donors' meeting of the conservative CPAC forum at Mar-A-Lago, Milei is snubbing his regional peers and King Felipe VI of Spain, who are meeting on Friday in Ecuador for an Ibero-American Summit. On his return, he will receive French President Emmanuel Macron, who will visit Argentina before participating in the G20 summit on November 18 and 19 in Rio de Janeiro. After the summit, he will host Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Buenos Aires.
For-profit train operator test driving trains from the 1970's amidst parts shortage

Private rail operator GoCollective is test driving trains built in 1978 which might be put in service on the Svendborg branch line on the island of Funen. The operator would rather use new bazinga battery-driven trains but according to them the vintage trains might be the only rolling stock available.
Commuters have experienced frequent delays, cancellations and overcrowded trains for years and the Liberal Party-controlled ministry of transportation recently ruled GoCollective's service to be "unsatisfactory". The operator blames the irregularities on the line's trainsets being out of service for repairs for longer time than expected. A shortage of steel, wheels and gears caused in part by the Ukraine war has made it hard to source parts for the trainsets. The situation is made worse by the line experiencing more collisions with trees than expected, increasing the bed for repairs.
The Svendborg line was opened in 1876 as a regional railway. In 1949 it was taken over by the state railways. In 2020 service on the line was handed over to the multinational for-profit operator Arriva. The Danish subsidiary of Arriva was taken over by Deutsche Bahn in 2023 and rebranded to GoCollective.
Until now Denmark's monarchy has had s practice of granting certain businesses the status of "purveyors to the royal Danish court", allowing them to use the royal crown in labelling and marketing. The status used to indicate that the business was an actual supplier to the monarchy but has since developed into a form of honorary award given respectable and established businesses. Frederik Glücksburg, who became king following a bloodless transfer of power in January, has now decided to end the practice completely giving the reason that it no longer reflects any actual business relationship to the monarchy. Since gaining power mr. Glücksburg has faced calls to exclude unethical businesses, such as alcohol producers, from the scheme and the decision to abandon it complete can be seen as the monarchy insulating reducing the potential risk of having its reputation damaged by the actions of the businesses.
The brewery corporation Carlsberg will now apply the National Archives for permission to continue using the royal crown in its marketing, citing "historic reasons".
Retail corporation Salling Group has decided to put sex toys on the shelves of two supermarket chains as they expect them to be in demand by customers. Public attitudes to sex toys has shifted and buying them no longer carries the same stigma it used to.
The retailer promises that the new products will be packaged tastefully and placed on top shelves away from the eyes of children.
Is there any reason to believe the entirety of the "west" isn't just a massive engulfing black hole of evil that was created as part of a thousand-year conspiracy to ruin and enslave the world? I've seen literally no evidence of them ever doing anything good, in fact, I don't even think they're capable of any sort of good or decency. This is a belief that came about from the constant string of the "west" consistently making the most evil fucking choices possible, so if you want to convince me otherwise better show me something that suggests otherwise lol.
Irish police pushed back pro-Palestine students and academics who held a protest inside the campus of Queen’s University in Belfast, denouncing the visit of former US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Palestine supporters protested Clinton’s visit, accusing her of supporting the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon. The protest, which featured Palestinian flags and people drenched in fake blood, was met by police.
Police arrested several protesters leading dozens to demonstrate in Belfast for their release. The former US secretary of state’s visit to Belfast was to participate in the Global Innovation Summit.
Russian Emergency Minister Aleksandr Kurenkov arrived in Cuba to strengthen diplomatic relations and support the Caribbean island after the impact of the recent hurricanes.
Argentine President Javier Milei announced the suspension of former President Cristina Kirchner's pension and widow's pension, following the confirmation of her conviction for corruption. The decision represents significant savings for the government, according to information from the Casa Rosada.
The suspension generates savings of 21,827,624 million pesos per month. The amount is equivalent to approximately 110,000 reais, according to spokesman Manuel Adorni. During Milei's term in office, Argentina will not allocate funds to any person convicted of corruption and who has tarnished Argentina's honor and dignity. Manuel Adorni
Cristina Kirchner said in a statement that her conviction is the result of legal and media persecution. She maintains that she never practiced fraudulent administration during her term as president. The former president said that the decision shows “the little dictator” that has always been inside Milei. “Do you want to team up with the judicial mafia to persecute me too? Are you so afraid of me? I'll tell you that the dictator Videla was afraid, and very afraid. But you give me nothing but pity and shame,” she said in a post on X.
Another initiative by the Netanyahu administration involves cooperation with German intelligence and Zionist organizations in Germany to recruit asylum seekers from Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria. Over the past seven months, the Values Initiative Association and the German–Israeli Association (DIG) have worked to enlist these refugees from war-torn Muslim-majority countries as mercenaries for Israel.
Offered monthly salaries ranging between €4,000 to €5,000 and fast-tracked German citizenship, many have joined the fight. Reports suggest that around 4,000 immigrants were naturalized between September and October alone.
After the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Germany imposed further restrictions on citizenship applicants from Arab and Muslim countries, requiring them to make pledges not to criticize Israel or show sympathy for Palestinians as a litmus test for naturalization.
In early November 2024, Germany introduced a law for compulsory conscription of these Arab and Muslim applicants, claiming an intent to fill manpower shortages. Yet, this conscription would not involve service in Germany – a stipulation that has left many of these refugees wary of who and where they could end up fighting.
China-Brazil: With a shared future and a friendship that transcends distances, it's time to sail together under full sail. A letter to Brazil from Chinese President Xi Jinping published on Folha de São Paulo (Liberal Newspaper).
letter
In an article for Folha on the eve of the G20 summit, Chinese leader Xi Jinping highlights partnership in various areas and says it is necessary to reform the IMF, World Bank and WTO
At the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, I will soon be paying a state visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil and taking part in the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil has a vast territory, rich resources, stunning landscapes and diverse cultures, and it is a country that the Chinese people like very much. More than 200 years ago, tea, lychee, spices and porcelain crossed the seas to Brazil, and from there a bridge of economic and commercial exchange was created between the two countries and the bonds of friendly exchange between Chinese and Brazilians were born.
China-Brazil diplomatic relations, established on August 15, 1974, have withstood the changes and turbulence in the international situation over the past 50 years and are increasingly mature and dynamic. They have effectively promoted the development of the two countries, contributed positively to peace and stability in the world and offered an example of win-win cooperation and a shared future between two major developing countries.
China and Brazil have always persisted in mutual respect and equal treatment. They understand and support the development paths that the Chinese and Brazilian people have chosen. Brazil was the first country to establish a strategic partnership with China and the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to establish a global strategic partnership with Beijing.
The two countries have a relationship that has always been at the forefront of relations between China and developing countries and have complete governmental mechanisms for dialog and cooperation. The Sino-Brazilian High-Level Concertation and Cooperation Commission (Cosban), which has been running smoothly for 20 years, plays an important role in coordinating and planning cooperation in different areas and in the pursuit of common development.
China and Brazil always pursue mutual benefits, shared gains and complementarity, and jointly promote the modernization of the two countries. China has been Brazil's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years and is one of the main sources of foreign investment - according to Chinese statistics, it has imported more than US$100 billion from Brazil annually in the last three years, setting a new record. With joint efforts, the two countries enjoy an ever-improving bilateral trade agenda, ever-higher quality cooperation and ever-expanding common interests. Their mutually beneficial cooperation in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy and natural resources, green development, science, technology and innovation, finance, among others, is effective and full of highlights and offers vigorous impulses to the economic and social development of both countries.
China and Brazil have always persisted in openness, inclusion and mutual learning. By nature, they feel close to each other and have a common quest for all that is beautiful. The fact that Cecília Meireles and Machado de Assis, both well-known Brazilian poets and writers, translated poems from the Chinese Tang dynasty reflects a mental symphony between the two sides that transcends time and space. In recent years, music, dance, gastronomy, sports and the arts have become the new bridges linking the two peoples and contributing to the deepening of mutual knowledge and friendship between Chinese and Brazilians.
Cute capybaras, bossa nova, samba and capoeira are popular in China, while traditional festivals such as the spring festival and other elements of Chinese culture such as traditional medicine are increasingly known by Brazilians. Between the two countries, there are frequent interactions between young people, journalists and academics, as well as dynamic exchanges between sub-national entities. What's more, the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations serve as banquets of cultural delights offered to both peoples. In recent days, I have received letters from more than a hundred Brazilian friends from the Brazil-China Friendship Association, Brazilian universities, Rio's Copacabana Fort Orchestra and other sectors of Brazilian society, and I have been very touched by the great expectations they have for deepening Sino-Brazilian friendship.
Am I misunderstanding the arrangement or is it kind of fucked up of The Onion to try to get Sandy Hook families to use the recovery fund for acquiring InfoWars? Do they really not have the money?
From a Vox article titled "Why Ukraine thinks it can still win over Donald Trump":
But Trump has also expressed some grudging admiration for Zelenskyy, a fellow TV star-turned-politician who has demonstrated he knows how to close a deal. “I think Zelenskyy is the greatest salesman in history — every time he comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion,” Trump said at a rally in September.
That's not admiration Vox, that's a criticism him suckering the US out of billions of dollars.
r/all is full of timeout mike and jack paul fight shit and nothing on Palestine. Can Americans help me understand where this was all advertised? How are people finding this? I'd like to find out where this imagined community spawned in real life, because it was certainly not formed online organically.
Danish municipalities caught using Google Translate in child protection cases
In Denmark, municipalities handling child protection cases have faced criticism for using Google Translate to communicate with non-Danish-speaking families in situations as serious as child removal cases. In one instance, officials warned an Ukrainian refugee mother that her children could be taken away if she didn’t comply with an action plan by pushing a smartphone through the mail slot in her front door and letting the Google Translate app play the message machine translated to Russian. Later that night all her children were forcibly removed.
She had become unable to take care of her children after suffering a mental breakdown when learning about her husband being severely wounded in the war. For six months leading up to the removal of the children, a for-profit company hired by the municipality had sent social workers to assist her and assess her parenting skills. The social workers did not speak Russian or Ukrainian, instead they communicated with the family in English, a language the mother doesn't speak, or through Google Translate. The mother did not understand what the purpose of the visit was or what was required of her.
According to Statistics Denmark, 44 Ukrainian children has been removed from their homes by authorites, either with or without the parents' consent. There are no statistics on the use of Google Translate in these cases but state media DR knows of at least three instances where authorities used machine translation.
Legal experts say this practice violates Danish law, which requires that authorities communicate in an understandable and accurate way with parties in child welfare cases, typically requiring qualified interpreters. Human rights advocates warn that relying on Google Translate risks misinterpretations that could isolate vulnerable families and lead to family separations without due understanding.
Municipalities claim that machine translations are mostly used in low-stakes interactions with citizens but defend the approach, citing a shortage of interpreters, but critics argue that automated translation is insufficient for such high-stakes interactions.
A teenager is in critical condition in a British Columbia children’s hospital, in what is believed to be Canada’s first human case of bird flu.
“This was a healthy teenager prior to this, so no underlying conditions,” said the provincial health officer Bonnie Henry in a news conference on Tuesday.
“It just reminds us that in young people this is a virus that can progress and cause quite severe illness and the deterioration that I mentioned was quite rapid.”
British Columbia health officials said on Saturday the province had detected Canada’s first human case of H5 bird flu in a teenager.
Henry said the province was still identifying the exact strain, but assumes the case is H5N1.
The World Health Organization says H5N1’s risk to humans is low because there is no evidence of human transmission, but the virus has been found in an increasing number of animals including cattle in the United States.
Henry would not disclose the teen’s gender or age but said they had first developed symptoms on 2 November and were tested on 8 November, when they were admitted to hospital. Symptoms included conjunctivitis, fever and coughing.
As of Tuesday they were hospitalized with acute respiratory distress syndrome, she said.
The teen had no farm exposure but had been exposed to dogs, cats and reptiles, Henry said. No infection source had been identified. “That is absolutely an ongoing investigation.”
More severe illness takes place when the virus binds to receptors deep in the lungs, she said.
Public health officials had identified and tested about three dozen contacts and had not found anyone infected with the virus.
There has been no evidence that the disease is easily spread between people. But if that were to happen, a pandemic could unfold, scientists have said.
Earlier in November, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention asked for farm workers exposed to animals with bird flu to be tested for the virus even if they do not have symptoms.
Bird flu has infected nearly 450 dairy farms in 15 US states since March, and the CDC has identified 46 human cases of bird flu since April.
In Canada, British Columbia has identified at least 26 affected premises across the province, Henry said on Tuesday, and numerous wild birds have tested positive. Canada has had no cases reported in dairy cattle and no evidence of bird flu in samples of milk.
Thinking back on that anti-war rally that had Tulsi as it's keynote speaker, and feeling very justified at my criticism of the people who supported that (I'm trying to be nice here since I know there's at least a few people here who supported it at the time).
Argentina withdraws negotiators from Cop29 summit. Move adds to concerns about the stability of the Paris agreement after the election in the US of Donald Trump.
Argentinian negotiators representing the government of the climate science denier Javier Milei have been ordered to withdraw from the Cop29 summit after only three days, adding to concerns about the stability of the Paris agreement.
More than 80 representatives from the South American country are in Baku, Azerbaijan, for two weeks of negotiations about climate finance for the energy transition. Argentina’s far-right leader has previously called the climate crisis a “socialist lie”, and during his election campaign last year he threatened to withdraw from the Paris agreement, though he has since backed down.
After what seemed like forever, Russian forces finally reached Kupyansk city, and likely captured the eastern half. Ukrainian forces may have retreated across the Oskil river.
This is potentially another Vuhledar-scale development. Once Vovchansk falls (it's just a matter of time), I think Russia might do this:
He has previously spoken out against efforts to negotiate a ceasefire deal
Huckabee was a longtime evangelical minister before running for political office and regularly leads "The Israel Experience" trips that take tour groups to sites with Biblical and historical significance
In Jan. 2017, Huckabee spoke in the West Bank in front of a banner vowing to "Build Israel Great Again" while touting the policy shift Trump's administration would bring.
He refuses to call the settlements in the West Bank settlements, and prefers to call them "communities". He also refuses to use the word "occupation", or even call it the West Bank.
I think Mkb is wrong when he describes trump's cabinet as Zionists but not neocons but the overall sentiment that the diplomatic grounds of West Asia have shifted since trump v1 is correct.
So weird how the Jewish untermensch are simultaneously so strong that they're going to genocide another 22 gorillion dindu nuffin innocent "Palestinians" but also so weak that they're on the verge of being annihilated by the Arab ubermensch.
The Jews are both strong and weak at the same time. Now where have we seen this before?
Twitch declares that "Zionist" is a slur, will issue bans for criticizing "individuals" based on their religious beliefs or background (genocide, settler colonialism).
