When my parents divorced, I was bummed out that I had to attend two thanksgiving dinners. The second was not turkey. We charred hot dogs over an open fire (lived in the midwest at the time) and made smores. It was pretty great.
This had nothing to do with the election. It's just a nice memory.
“My kids don’t want to hang out with me after I dismissed their opinions as a mental disorder and the party I voted for tries to control their bodies! Why must I suffer? I didn’t do anything to them directly! These kids today are so unfaaaair!”
What a jackass.
I hope his kids have a great holiday. Good on them for standing up for their beliefs.
It might be because this guy voted for trump, and that would be justifiable, but it's more likely that it's because they have made MAGA their entire personality. Their twitter feed is just a non stop bullshit feed filled with retweets from the usual suspects, there's no self taken photos, no fun shitposts, nothing about hobbies or events they go to.... just transphobia, bullshit and even praise towards Matt Gaetz ffs. Who would want to spend a dinner with someone like that.
There’s clearly more to this story. The simple fact that his username is “Conservative” indicates that he is one of those people that make their political ideology a major part of their identity.
"I openly voted against the interests of my own children and also openly claim they have a mental disorder for their views."
Get fucked.
These people really are clueless. No appreciation at all for how their actions affect others. They get surprised when people stop putting themselves in harms way by simply not being around them.
Want your family back? Realize that what you think is some free speech populist revolution is just an excuse for a lot of people to be assholes and expect no consequences.
"Now I have been informed that all three children are boycotting thanksgiving".
Hmm, maybe it has something to do with shit talking them on twitter. Maybe, and this is just a guess, the family gatherings are not politics free zones but full of conspiracies and drama and more shit talking. Just a guess. But none of this is his fault, it's those damn brainwashed libruls who are spoiling his fun. Now how is he going to do his trump victory lap if his daughters stay away?
Pretty obvious that this guy is a stupid asshole, so makes sense. Congrats to his daughters for telling him to fuck himself. I had a parent who said incredibly stupid shit like the “liberalism is a mental disorder” line I would not talk to them either.
Conservatives never learn anything. It’s part of why they’re conservative in the first place. They don’t grow, expand their minds, or learn from life. They hit a point where they harden and ruin relationships.
Conservatives seem to have this weird belief that if they tried something and failed, then everything should be as if they never tried at all. Like, "attempted murder" just isn't a thing in their eyes.
Maybe it's just how their fragile egos handle not winning everything always.
Well, golly gee, he "let" his independent, grown-ass adult offspring vote for the candidate of their own choosing. I can't imagine why they'd spurn him after such selfless and generous act.
If I was told this by someone in private I would at least be sympathetic, but blasting your children in a public forum is like yelling in walmart. I just can’t view you as any semblance of a good person if you’re publically taking the “eternal victim” stance.
Like, the expected outcome for this rube is that an echo chamber shits on his kids. Gee I wonder why his kids don’t like him, must be mental illness.
You know, I'm not sure I believe that "PDX Conservative" keeps all of his political beliefs to himself and didn't argue with his kids about their political beliefs. Given his tweet with over 200K views, it seems to me like Mr. conserve_p may be understating his willingness to loudly declare his political opinions to anyone who will listen including to his liberal children that he is publicly calling rude and childish.
what people keep missing is that some things, even though actions of a government, aren’t political.
e.g. trump’s a convicted rapist… it’s not politics to hate someone that is permissive of a rapist just because they think he’ll help your tax bracket (he won’t, and he fucked the economy last time too).
racism isn’t politics, destroying the environment isn’t politics… they’re moral imperatives….
Visceral proof that conservatism is a legitimate mental disorder. Good on the kids, they’ll very likely have the outstanding thanksgiving they deserve.
It's not necessarily about his vote, it's about what it presents. His enthusiasm shows not only is he okay with Trump and his associated behaviour, he's actively advocating for it.
And considering how Trump treats women, anyone who can look their own daughters in the eye and advocate for that POS doesn't deserve them in his life.
It isn't because he voted a certain way. It's because the person he supports and his followers make his daughters less safe. The person he supports is a rapist and by supporting him you tacitly condone rape. And the more people look the other way the more accepted it becomes. Your daughter's aren't in danger because of some migrants, your daughter's are in danger because weirdo men want to control their bodies to the point that they'll let your daughter's die to save a fetus. Whether or not you, the father, personally believe these things, you are empowering those that do. You are making the world a more scary and less safe place for your daughters.
Yeah, no wonder they don't want to associate with you. I wouldn't either
My dad is hardcore conservative, identifies as independent. My mom was Democratic, she's now hardcore Republican to reflect the political views of her 4th husband.
I want so badly to just not see any family for Thanksgiving because their political views are so dramatically opposed to mine, but that just doesn't feel right in my heart.
Everyone I love supports things I'm ethically and morally against, but shit dude, my circle of people is already so small. I want to have family and friends in my life, but I also want to surround myself with people who share my values. Unfortunately I have to choose one over the other, and that feels dirty.
As much as I want to boycott my parents thanksgiving dinner, my dad is almost 80 and I only got so many days left to even hang out with him. Plus my mom is cool so I got that going for me.
Yeah I haven’t told my parents I voted for Trump. Don’t plan to either, at least not soon.
Even when I was still a democrat I didn’t like talking politics with them because it was all so mean-spirited. They didn’t talk about policies or futures or problems they just talked about Republicans.
So I just don’t talk politics with them and as I started to shift I just got more and more silent. I don’t really care how they vote. I don’t really care about their politics. They’ve my parents. I’d never cut them off for opposing me politically.
But I’m worried they might. Or I just don’t know what would happen. So I don’t bring it up. They talk their shit over dinner and I smile and nod and don’t add anything, because I don’t get to see them very often, and I love them.
I kicked my son out of the house when I found out he voted for Trump. That was 8 years and I haven't spoken to him since. I heard from my daughter that he was homeless for a couple of years and is now working retail while couch surfing.
I can understand beef between third party voters and Biden/Harris folks. For the life of me, I cannot understand the beef between Harris and Trump voters.
Their platforms were nearly identical. They’re both genocide supporters. And pretending Harris would’ve been better on reproductive rights has no basis in reality. Biden/Harris have refused every call for them to use federal workarounds to grant abortion access to those in red states, but we’re supposed to believe she would’ve suddenly done something about it after election?
At least the Trumpers are openly fascist maniacs. Dem voters are not being honest with themselves about what they’ve been supporting.
Sad that elections tear families apart. And that goes for all sides making discussions like this. The moment you stop dialogue you stop the change you want to make. Both pathetic and sad, I hope for a future of coexistance in American families.
