Looking for an alternative to Sync, because I'm tired of not getting updates from LJD despite it being a paid app. Unfortunately, thus far I've tried about half a dozen apps and none of them quite give me as much customisation options as Sync did, especially on the feed view. Few of them even come close. Does anybody have a recommendation for a highly-customisable app?
You probably already saw, but they have a Lemmy Community for questions and discussions: !thunder_app@lemmy.world And if you're so inclined, you could even contribute to the development of the app on their GitHub: https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder/
I, too, abandoned Sync after paying for it. I've come to despise the dev and the app. He'd do things like release breaking changes then disappear for months. Markdown never worked right because it used Reddit style markdown for things like superscript, etc. And one day he decided to add markdown to post titles with horrible results, and no way to disable it, then disappeared again.
At any rate, I switched to Thunder and I'm perfectly happy with it. It's customizable enough, and I guess I'm ok with the things I can't customize. I also tried a bunch of apps, and Thunder was definitely the best.
Edit: oh, and the spoiler tags! Editing a comment would replace proper Lemmy style spoiler tags with incompatible reddit style ones. WTF!
I realize this is slightly off-topic, but I always end up going back to using just a mobile browser.
It has features that I haven't found in apps: multiple tabs, bookmarks, built-in ad blocker, etc.
TBH, before using lemmy, I had almost forgotten how it was to use a website that's not outright hostile to mobile browsers.
My use case might be wildly different and I'm not saying wanting an app is invalid at all, and the web UI itself also has room for improvement.
Just... the browser actually works here compared to places like reddit and I keep going back to using that.
The last update was 8 months ago, so yes, you're probably the only one getting frequent updates. I don't mind it being a paid app, as I believe devs need to eat, but given how long his current hiatus has been, it feels very much abandoned.
