Just wait until they hit their first layoff. I still remember mine...I had to console the person that came to get me and bring me to "the room". The dot Com bust was well underway, I saw it coming from a mile away. I was prepared. She was not. She had done this to 4 other people before me that morning and was having a hard time with it. I knew by the look on her face what was happening before she even said anything. My manager was a dick about it, but I still felt bad for her more than myself.
Happened to me. Got laid off from my dream job and my manager was holding back tears as much as I was.
I felt bad for him for awhile, but ultimately realized he was still the one that chose me over others to let go just because I was last in the door (nevermind that I uprooted and moved halfway across the country for that job).
