Bit idea: The 2nd Annual 2024 Hexie awards!

That's right folks the year is drawing to a close so it's time to rehash last year's bit, nominate, and vote for your 2024 Hexies! These are the Hexbears you think exemplify what it means to be a real Hexbear

Here's how it works:

  1. Pick from the below categories
  2. Nominate someone for that category by tagging them
  3. If you are nominated respond to the nomination to accept it
  4. Most upbeared accepted nomination in each category wins!

What do you win? The esteem of your fellow Hexbearian comrades of course. What more could you want?

The categories for this year's 2024 Hexie awards are:

  1. Best Effortposter of 2024
  2. Most likely to be called a tankie on a blocked instance
  3. Most comradely Hexbear

This year we have a special bonus category to commemorate some of the new comms we added:

  1. Best bad poster (this is not the worst poster, this is the best poster that is bad at posting)

We got a lot of new posters this year and have a lot of great comrades visiting from federated instances, feel free to participate too! We love all of our great posters, don't we folks?

Alright comrades that's it from me, be sure and do your democratic duty and

for your 2024 Hexie winners and congrats in advance to the winners of this highly coveted and prestigious award!

And for one small trip down memory lane, here's last year's Hexies! https://hexbear.net/post/1477104

  • I had the thought of something like this, but nominating the YouTuber Jessie Gender for worst video-essay of the year with her 4 hour long video about Palestine which boils down to "what's happening in Palestine is really bad, but liberal Zionism is valid". She also managed to include a quote from "Son of Hamas" in the original video. Maybe the biggest display of BreadTuber sophistry I have ever seen, not to mention it is the length of two entire movies, while saying almost nothing worth hearing. It has just stuck with me how phenomenally bad this video was.

    Hexbear post discussing the video https://hexbear.net/post/3104950

    • I was following her channel when it was absolutely tiny and was stoked to see it goes, I like star trek and she had done good shit before in the general video essay genre. There was an earlier essay she did that she sourced a reactionary freak and she and her co-writer for the video got really defensive when I pointed out she was basing her point off of information provided by an extreme reactionary, the replies were that they thought really hard about including the dude but decided to cause it supported their point, I replied that a reactionary source that supports your point of view either means you could find another less shitty person to cite or examine your point cause if only a reactionary's works support your point, it's probably a reactionary point. I forget the specifics and the video cause it was over a year prior to this one, but it was a huge red flag. She wouldn't re-examine her point when and argued to hell and back and made excuses why it was OK to promote reactionaries abd then makes a 4 hour video about how we should be nicer to zionists. The radlib mind in action. If you're on nebula and not patrick h willems, I've got no damn time for you.

      Edit: it was her Andor video

    • Has anything meaningfully changed with the edited version? Obviously the title is different, but other discussions make it seem like it’s actually good and her points are being misrepresented. I do not wish to watch it

      • It was just really tone deaf and disrespectful ultimately, there was something in it about how IDF members are drafted so it's not really their fault for having served, clearly ignoring that you can just choose not to be an IDF member and do the relatively short prison sentence, in regards to her saying people shouldn't be boycotting some IDF soldier. I don't have the heart to watch whatever changes were made, I doubt they were transformative though given the original.

    • I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

  • Can we have a "best liberal award"? I nominate you for it lmao gotem

    No but seriously can we get a "best confused lib" award? Like the best time some lemmitor stumbled in here and fell on their ass. Also how about "best bit"? "Most outstanding copypasta"?

  • For #1 I would like to nominate the entire news mega. If a mega isn't allowed then @LargePenis@hexbear.net for the weekly rankings or @SoyViking@hexbear.net for the brave reports on the ancient kingdom in the north.
    For #2 I nominate all our brave posters who have a second account specifically to engage in slapfights.
    For #3 I nominate @Bureaucrat@hexbear.net on the technicality that pups contained the most comrades.

    • I am amazed at how long Bureaucat lasted as an account. Really a testament to this community

    • Thank you for the nomination. I'm flattered and happy that my fair and accurate reports from this exotic and remote place are being so well received.

      • I love your objective and unbiased reporting on their strange ways.

        ::: spoiler bit idea.
        I hope some day to read about how their tradition of eating pork at election somehow explains something about authoritarianism or whatever it is journalists like to do for China

    1. Le premier(e) sorcier(e) de sixours point net
    • I went for a run

      ::: spoiler I shouldn't have though now we only have today for three more dead presidents
      "Three More Dead Presidents" is the name of my Dead Kennedy's coverband

      :::

      ::: spoiler spoiler
      I'm going back to logging off for a while after today. I was just here for Christmas break. In about 11 days I will go for a half marathon so keep your eyes peeled for that. If nothing happens then it's because my knee or my back went crack (again)

  • I, once again, nominate myself for this prestigious award just so I can be the only two times Hexie nominated actor in Hollywood.

  • I know everyone is having fun here but I personally find this whole thing tres icky. A literal popularity contest?

    Maybe someone would like to explain to me how this won't lead to problems like resentment, big egos, anxiety, performance pressure, tensions, jealousies, celebrity, hurt feelings, deference etc. There are just so many pre-existing issues individually and relationally something like this could exacerbate, or even create. For all involved: who do or do not nominate/comment/vote/win.

    I feel bad posting this because I guess that it will be read as maybe I don't like the people who are nominated, that I wish to be nominated etc. Anticipate any criticism, no matter the content, will initially be suspected of pettiness. Or that I am belittling the genuine affection being solicited and shared here. Don't think that's just my own idiosyncratic anxieties. The structure is created in such a way as to disincentivize being the fun police criticism. That makes me really uneasy too.

    The idea of recognizing people who make contributions is perfectly sound. I am just not sure this is a good way. Making an institution (even as a quote/unquote "bit") of the idea that this is a place where some people are officially popular is a very weird choice for a left/communist community.

    The best defense of this I can anticipate is that it'll come and go and nobody'll remember in a week. And besides it's probably a slow time for the site so fewer people than usual will even see it.

  • I'd like to nominate this moment where I made an offhand mention of a lib who had their own subreddit for monitoring us and hadn't been active in years, then received a reply from said lib in mere minutes, as the wildest moment of the year. Use the "view moderation history" button to see their comments since they were all removed.

  • Id like to nominate gay tucker carlson for resuming our past friendship and being nice to me in DMs about personal stuff when they saw id come back to the site after not talking for a long time, also for the best impression of tucker carlson if he was gay. didn't want to @ her bcs it felt awkward.

    Ngl im slightly tipsy with friends + family rn posting from the toilet, and the main reason i didnt at them was actually bcss i couldn't work out how to withmy dumb dumb tipsy brain

  • I am nominating myself for best bad poster.

    Often, genius is not appreciated within its lifetime, but future generations will behold the nuggets I fetch you from the posting mines in awe.

  • Nominating myself for best lurker who posts some comments every two months who is too afraid to make an actual post myself after being bullied on r/chapotraphouse but in a deserved way because I only made posts when drunk.
