I am using sync
I literally just switched from Sync to Voyager on Android last night. So far, I'm enjoying Voyager much more.
Sync was fine, but the developer only pops in once in a great while, then he ghosts for months (or even years). Getting any problems resolved means waiting until he happens to show up again, then hoping he notices your specific complaint.
I managed to get .webm content to display in the app by catching him right before he posted a major update a couple years ago. But he hasn't responded to any other issues I've posted about since.
Me too but it's semi-broken right now and hasn't had an update in a long time. I really don't want to switch, though.
I don't want to switch either. Pretty sure the Reddit shit just ruined all the motivation for the developer. He probably lost a huge source of income too
Same. The only thing I'd add is a filter word.
I finally uninstalled it the other day. It's clear the dev has abandoned it.
Did you uninstall it purely because it hasn't received any updates or was there some feature you wanted or bug fixed that led you to that?
I've been using sync for nearly a decade (maybe longer, I forget when exactly) and it's not uncommon for LJ to not update sync for long periods of time, so I don't really see no updates in nearly a year as an issue. (Plus as a dev myself, I hate the idea of constant releases, though I do spacecraft software so maybe I'm just really oddly biased)
Same here, but it does feel like the app has been abandoned by the developer
Same
Is sync killing your battery???
It's really laggy with loading the comments though. 5~10% of the images also fail to load.
Wheres thunder?
Thunder is still being updated and their last patch was a few days ago.
Thats my point, I use it and its amazing :3
Still using Sync here, what exactly am I missing out on? Tried voyager years ago but coming from Reddit and using Sync for that, it was a pretty natural jump.
It hasn't been updated in quite awhile, and I have heard some Lemmy features are still broken - I think some types of inline images and markdown mainly, and some upcoming api changes may break it completely in the nearish future.
Here is a comment I made in a relevant thread, where they discuss sync (here: https://lemmy.world/comment/14130358)
As someone who used sync on reddit for many years, I switched to Summit a few weeks ago and it's great. This post comparing a lot of lemmy apps made me finally take the plunge: https://lemmy.world/post/18159531
TLDR: A lot of formatting is messed up on sync.
I was in the same boat; I've been using sync for years. Recently, I've definitely noticed issues with certain instances and comment sections. Search was also completely broken. According to what I've read, it appears to be a version mismatch issue. Since sync hasn't been updated in a year, I've cancelled my subscription and moved over to Summit.
Just started using Thunder and it is a pretty easy transition from Sync.
What’s wrong with Avelon?
The last update was a year ago.
I like the app…but this explains it being a bit glitchy.
Jerboa is still here baby lfg
(No surprise though sense it is maintined by lemmy devs iirc)
There are literally three of us!
(or so it seems from these threads)
I'm using Jerboa and have been since the start. I see no reason to switch. It was a teeny bit rough around the edges in the earliest months following the Reddit API changes, but it's been smooth sailing since then.
All day and night 👏
Don't forget connect. It's still getting updated.
The last update a couple of days ago broke some stuff though. Otherwise solid experience (1.5 years for me).
That's probably why it was not chosen for this meme
Was about to say, Connect is the earth
From my experience Photon is the best web client, Eternity is the best Android client and Voyager or Mlem seems to be the best iOS clients. In the free and open source side.
I don't wanna use proprietary client for the fediverse if great FOSS alternative exists.
But here are some proprietary client that looks great in my opinion Connect for Android and Arctic for iOS.
Arctic for iOS is superior in almost every way.
I've been using connect and it's pretty great!
It has been great and is the UI that I want to use however it has slowly been slipping downhill over the last year and a half. That last update from this week has fucked more things than it fixed and introduced new issues as well.
I want it to be great. I want it to work properly but the dev is barely active popping in every 6 months or so to drop an update that might make it better but probably make it worse. It was a better app experience 18 months ago, that's for sure.
I've moved over to trying Voyager because of all this and it is the closest to connect I can find so far.
is there a client that shows saved posts by saving time?
Still hanging out here via Jeroba.
Jerboa for the win! Good, solid, and FOSS.
Connect for Lemmy is the goat
Maybe but this isn't free and open source software...
Thunder still exists.
Been using it for months, it's great
The best app by far.
I started on Voyager. Didn't love it, tried Thunder and it's fantastic.
Boost was my favourite client to use back on the reddit days. I migrated to lemmy before boost was announced for lemmy, but man it's a big help having it.
I love Boost. Being able to use it both for Lemmy and Reddit has been a big help in keeping me using Lemmy.
I'm usually a FOSS purist, but after trying a lot of different Reddit/Lemmy apps, it really is hands down my favourite. So much so that I've happily paid for it.
Thunder is my preferred client, with jerboa being second
Honestly thunder is perfect aside from being a tad slow to load sometimes. And it seems to have a little more tendency to experience network issues, but the UI is everything I could ask for
Jerboa might be my favorite if it showed full size link previews since I usually engage visually before I engage with text
Yeah, one of the big fears with moving to a small platform like Lemmy was that the apps wouldn't be nearly as good the Reddit ones, but Thunder is just genuinely fantastic.
Another endorsement of Thunder here. Just works, no bloat.
Booooost
Boost gang in here! Heck, I still use it for Reddit as well.
I'm loving boost for the most part
I actually found out about this a few days ago. I suddenly kept getting errors and found out the app i used, Boost, hadn't been updated in almost a year... Now running Voyager. How did i not notice? No idea.
I mean boost is still truckin' just fine for me , but it is only one dude doing dev so I don't expect a crazy amount of updates from him
Memmy was how I first got into Lemmy. Feels bad that it doesn’t exist anymore.
I can't believe it's now gone. It was the best ios app that existed back then.
Where Boost?
Boost was more recently updated on July 14, 2024.
I'm still using it. Now, some activity would be very much appreciated. Or, if there is no new development, the source code. But it's still the app I prefer to use.
This is a clever way to do a survey on user's preferred mobile clients
Hyello, Russian hackeЯs of Internet Research Agency. I use iPhone Plus for Lyemmikov. Please and spaceeba, ya blaka. Kak de la!
.ml admin?
I notice there are only 5 gravestones because Sync is just mysteriously vanished, possibly not dead
That's accurate since Sync could come back with an large update since the last patch was on Mar 26, 2024.
Mlem is alive and kicking!
We haven't received a stable update in a while but the github repository has been very busy for the final push towards 2.0! The last commit was 5 hours ago 🔥
Yes, I’m a TestFlight tester for them and they’ve been busy. I believe it’s down to two devs right now, but they are super responsive to issues.
Eternity (infinity fork) is still around, but I've been using voyager myself.
Connect's been nice!
Works great! Only complaint is that links behind a spoiler tag in the OP don't work.
Yeah was confused do people not use it? Feels like old reddit I love it
I was a RiF (rip) user and it's the closest thing in my opinion.
Been using Summit, good so far.
Came here to say this
Summit crew too!!! I like being niche
Thanks guys. Unfortunate we did not make the meme :(
I'm using Memmy right now and honestly had no clue that it's dead!
So was I. Tried that and Mlem, now very happily on Arctic.
Eternity has been great all year.
i was a baconreader guy for the loooongest time.
I have no idea what any of this means.
Mobile apps that have "died" - Voyager still lives on, stronger.
By died, it means no longer being maintained.
It's also a weird cherry picked set. Jerboa is still around.
Sync is dead? Wasn't that the paid service one?
From what I’ve read the dev just vanished but it’s still up. The paid one. I don’t use it tho
Their direct deposit won’t vanish alongside them though 😝
Funny how people were crazy about it. Also, people didn't like negative critics about it.
yall sleeping on racoon
Is it still alive ? Like maintained, I thought it has been pulled out of the PlayStore and F-Droid
Browser Bois represent 👊
I use Raccoon. I think I like it the best out of the 4 I tried.
Also using Racoon, really nice
Avelon is dead? Using it right now..
People seem to have moved to Arctic
For release dates and complete list: https://www.lemmyapps.com/
Thanks I’ll check it out Avelon is still decent but it’s likely I can get a better experience somewhere else
It still works, but some features are broken. I switched because marking posts as read doesn’t work anymore.
Arctic!
I loved arctic, but I got a newer phone and now it doesn’t work at all. I can search for a specific post, but nothing comes up for browsing. I’ve been using voyager, but I still miss arctic.
Also, message the developer. He's really responsive.
I use TestFlight version, work quite well
I can't even remember what the kbin app was. Artemis?
I still rock wefwef. Web client apps are just cool
Wefwef is Voyager. My app still says wefwef too :)
Right, but it’s not an app from the App Store. From what I understand, there is an actual “app” and there’s wefwef, which is just a browser pointed at lemmy with some magic applied. I always get prompted to try the complete experience by downloading the app, but I’ve refused thus far.
jeroba
Only used Voyager, Sync and Liftoff from that list but Voyager has been my favorite by far after using half a dozen different ones. I always liked RedditIsFun and it reminds me of that.
Is this loss?
