For YouTube on android you can also use grayjay or revanced to set subscriptions as your home page!
(This is about a section in the video, not just a random non-sequitur 😅)
in newpipe you don't log into youtube. so minimal data harvesting.
I like the fork pipepipe since it has sponsorblock and also let's you use a YouTube account only for accessing age restricted videos, since YouTube disabled that for people without accounts.
Grayjay can work that way (optionally) too. Its pretty cool there are now a number of great ways to interact with YouTube that give users more agency! 😊
Invidious is also a thing, though I haven't used it much
Great video, thanks for posting! This guy articulated a lot of thoughts about algorithmic recommendations that I've never been quite able to form into coherent thoughts myself. I definitely understand why I decided to go all in with the fediverse or social web half a decade ago or so now.
Yeah what of the things that led me to using YouTube logged out was a small thing like getting bunch of video game spoilers if I viewed some videos of a game I was interested in or needed a walk through or tip on.
