Does it (do they?) stand up like that? Or is this a dead one. Either way it looks bad ass as shit. Like scale it up right, add a artisty style, boom dnd monster.

  No there's no joke. It's the same beetle, top and bottom. Split down the middle to be genetically male and female
- Reminds me of something I drew a while back.
  I screwed up the equal length of the mandibles from the reference image. They look very similar to this bettle though. The body texture and shape is not quite right though.
- To be fair, your images are full of jpeg artifacts. But at least they're higher res.

So toilets are usually female - male but beetles are male - female to make circle - female symbol on toilet. Noted, from now on when I spot beetle I will compare it with toilet to figure out if it's male or female.
