New here! Fuck reddit.

So, I've now had a 9 year account and a 13 year account both permabanned.

They've linked them as the same user and banned me for a benign post on r/pics.

I lost all faith in reddit when they changed the api then Relay for reddit stopped working.

Base model app is shit.

Comments constantly erase and empty endpoint error.

Can't even say 'I like that player two energy on super Mario bros', because that's 'violent'.

I've posted tens of thousands of comments and only recently had issues.

Got banned for saying 'Elon simps in our midst' referring to mods....who proved my point.

And finally now, they are paywalling shit soon.

Adios.

Anyway, I left digg in the great exodus for reddit, now this looks like my new home.

Rant over lol.

Elom Musk has been pressuring Reddit's CEO to force mods to accept links to hia fascist platform.
So I can only see Reddit become worse as the years go on.

- I think it's more to do with community size. It's much easier to have non-anonymous interactions on Lemmy than Reddit. You'll probably see less of that vibe as Lemmy scales. Though, tbh, I always found Reddit to be way more dogmatic, sensitive, and above all, dramatic and performative than Lemmy.
  Reddit's like the Huffington Post of social media, which I guess makes Facebook Breitbart.

  These replies prove it: nobody performs autofellatio quite like someone who recently discovered that social media platforms other than Twitter/Facebook/Reddit exist. The users of this platform are largely identical to the users of reddit. The biggest difference is that I'm told to kill myself far more often here

  Most groups suck themselves off about how awesome they are compared to alternate groups in the same genre. Hardstyle vs Progressive trance. BJJ vs Wrestling. Ford vs Holden cars. etc.\

I lost about seven 12-year-old accounts all for telling off one piece of shit incel, quoting his slur so he couldn't edit, and reporting him. Mods banned me from a major subreddit for "using a slur" and didn't listen to my appeal that I was the one fighting the incel and just quoted him so he couldn't change his comment. Mods acted like pubescent morons and called me names for politely asking for a review of the incident, I changed account to keep talking to people I knew there, got perma-banned for ban-evasion, they sniffed out my other accounts then and banned those too, then I made new accounts but got permanently shadowbanned for criticizing conservatives and reddit mods, made new accounts, those accounts also are now shadowbanned for who-knows-why.
But whatever their excuses are, the reality is clear. They don't want human users, this is why "shadowbans" are a thing, they want humans to feel like they're interacting, but in reality they want a billion bots talking to each other and simulating narratives and conversations so they can twist a few dials and change public opinion on whatever they want.
They're already doing it, it works. A large percentage of users there are already very convincing AI's.
They aren't hiding this, they announced that they would be letting AI's "use" reddit to train and learn. They never specified to what end or how many.

  It's wild, I used to go to bat for Reddit mods, I WAS one for a large community for several years, I have sympathy for the people who work hard to keep public spaces organized without pay, the team I was modding with were good, reasonable adults who had nice, progressive values and fair moderation policies, facing a tireless wave of hate and obscenities and scams.
  I learned pretty fast that was HIGHLY unique situation, and the majority of mods on reddit are embodiments of ALL the stereotypes. Smug, condescending, power-tripping teenage assholes who just enjoy waving their impotent magic wands around thinking the power to ban users makes them an actual authority. I cannot stand them, they are the most miserable people in existence.

I've been here since November. Loving it.
Your comments actually get responses on this platform. Whereas 90% of your Reddit comments will never be seen, much less interacted with.
The downfall of Reddit is well underway.
- For me it's bit like living in a village vs. living in a city. You kind of get to know some users here because you see them around a bit, even if you don't always interact with them.

I closed my account 2 weeks ago after being there for 13+ years. Thousands and thousands of comments and posts. Oh well, I don't even miss it a little bit. It truly became garbage when they locked out free API access. This banning for liking Luigi or shit talking Elon is so against what reddit was about, they've lost their way and I refuse to participate.

  How do I know? I got banned for arguing with a pedo apologist and telling him to go fuck himself. He replied to a comment and then blocked me so that it would seem like I was droppping off of the convo. I edited my last reply to call him out, and bam. Reddit perma-bans me for 'continuing to harass a user who had already blocked you'.
  The only way to get rid of your posts and comments so that reddit doesn't benefit from them is to delete your account.

It honestly feels like the transition from Digg to Reddit way back when. If you're on iPhone, I am using Voyager and have been happy with it.

I left reddit a few months ago. I wish I never gave reddit a minute of my time.

I check back over on Reddit every so often and it's exactly as you say. It's probably impossible to stop the quality death spiral over there.

  Yup, and I know it. The alternative was an unpalatable amount of self-censorship I had no interest in, and even that wouldn't be a guarantee due to opaque moderation practices.
  I don't have a problem with reasonable limits on behavior, but I can't play by the rules if nobody wants to tell me what they are and / or said rules can capriciously change from one moment to the next with no advance warning or notice.

Reddit is the new digg. Its taking longer but the result will be the same. When the real mass exodus occurs we will pick up all the toxins currently in their bubble over there.

  Fediverse is Stand for Federated Universe,it's like the decentralized social media(mastodon,lemmy, pixelfed,etc) they are use activitypub protocol to connect each other so you can interact with mastodon(or other fediverse social media) user with your lemmy account,in fediverse you can create your own server(instance),While reddit, Twitter, Instagram is centralized social media Controlled by big tech/corporation.
  
  Also, the fuck is the fediverse.
  It's what we call the new (ish) nerd Internet.
  We "federate", meaning we don't give a shit who owns stuff, so we use "activitypub" to let Lemmy users access posts from other services like PixelFed (new nerd Instagram) and Mastodon (new nerd Twitter) without any additional accounts.
  You don't have to worry about it, it just works in the background making more content available to your current Lemmy account.

For Android mobile, I recommend Summit. Another good app is Connect.

  The other major tech news I've heard recently about keeping social media free and for the people, is that BlueSky has just implemented a link tracking system so they can track where users go from their site (they're doing so to sell the information to corporate clients).
  This means Mastodon is currently the Federated alternative to the twitter style websites.
