  • Because they were stupid in ever removing the "HBO" brand. The HBO brand is associated with quality. Sure maybe it's too "prestige" and scared off a few people, but you've weakened the brand by just calling it Max.

    Plus, the rebranding failed anyway. No one calls it Max, it's just HBO or HBO Max (which only stuck because of the confusing and inconsistent HBO Go and HBO Now branding).

    The sooner David Zaslav is fired the better.

    • I remember hearing they dropped HBO from the name because HBO is associated with more adult oriented content and they wanted to to show they have more than that. But since the name change they've been dropping Cartoon Network shows every time you turn around.

    • It was a horrible rebrand, on par with twitter to X. It did not need a rebrand, no one thought it did, and like everyone I knew subscribed to it.

      What I heard was that HBO meant premium but they wanted to throw other ATT slip on there so they decided to rebrand.

      I think marketing was bored and wanted to justify their existence
