I’m at the ED at hospital. My mum was in a really bad car accident. Thankfully it’s just bruising but it could have been much, much worse. Her car was totalled. Driving up to the accident seeing all the police / ambulance / fire truck lights and then her totalled car was truly scary. I’m just thankful she’s OK. Waiting to do scans to make sure nothing is broken, then I’ll drive her home.
- Good job totalled car, it crumpled on her behalf. Drive gently on the way home. One of my repeated memories of post accident issues was how much the drive home sucked because I was all beaten up and resisting the mild g-forces as a passenger was suddenly a painful struggle.
  
  You just reminded me of an accident I was in as a teen where we had to go over the railway lines to get to the Drs, and then again to get home. The whiplash!

Just went out and there's a for sale sign on the house across the road. The caravan, the trailer, the two cars are gone. This is the same cunt who floors his hotted up torana down the street every weekend and then revs his car outside my place while his wife moves the 2 cars so he can put precious back in the yard. He also yells at his 2 little kids aggressively. Fucking hero. Best day ever.

Back home after picking up my mum from the hospital. I left around 3am once we realised she wasn’t going to get seen by the doctor for hours, and I would be too tired to safely drive her home. Took until 10am to get her scans done, and 3pm to get the all clear, so a long stint in ED. She’s just got some bruises and she’s a bit sore, so glad that’s all it is.
I went to the tow truck place to clear out her car and she’s lucky the collison was on the passenger side and not the driver side, because she would have been severely injured. The other person involved was completely fine, newer car with way more airbags that cushioned the impact.
Barely slept last night and all the driving around today, I’m exhausted.

I remembered it's my birthday today so I got the breakfast banh mi as a treat on the way in to work. I think I'll check my emails and head down to the nearby shopping centre during lunch to collect up as much free/discounted birthday stuff as I can

Nay: it's on Anzac Day and my aunt can't go and flights are stupidly expensive but at least my aunt has offered to chip in.
Looks like I might be doing a week back in the equatorial concrete jungle soup. Maybe a good opportunity to focus on writing uni stuff... Shame it's my favourite time of the year in melbs but honestly all that is irrelevant when my mum's eyes are at stake.

- The dietician has taken ham and salami off my wife's menu to address cholesterol. It should likely apply to me also, but I'm not organised enough to book things like "check ups" and dieticians. So I bought a large whole chook last weekend and we roasted it. It's going into sandwiches this week (and will likely be a weekly thing for the foreseeable future) instead of ham/salami. So far, everyone likes the change. It works out far cheaper also: over 2kg of chook is about he prices of 500g of ham/salami.

  Alright consider this an order to GET organized. This is your health ffs. Nothing else is more important.
  This is the second time today I've had to tell someone "yo you should REALLY see a doctor".
  
  Poached chicken breast is awesome to substitute for deli meat and you can add subtle flavours to it.
  
  I personally use drumsticks as a bag of them are pretty cheap and the meat is so tender.
  Air fry 1 big one or 2 medium or small should be enough for one sandwich size serving. Season before cooking, let stand for a few mins then cut the meat off.
  Yum Yums to be had!
  
  A whole chook in the instant pot for 40 mins is easy peasy and you get left over stock. I do it for curries, chilli and apricot chicken.
  The chook also wont have the nitrites found in ham and salami so there's another health bonus.

I have been very good with the limited sweets thing this lentish....until tonight when I made this creation.
Here we have vanilla bean ice cream, hot chocolate topping, coffee topping, chocolate ice magic with a biscoff crumb and a twix. It was magnificent. 5/5 yum yums.

Last day out at this site that would seemingly never end. So badly quoted... not my problem though. I'm glad today is it. Can't say I'm going to miss wrangling the drivers of the M1.
Had a long text chat last night with a friend at my old workplace who was stressed out of their mind after being dressed down by a client due to providing faulty data... it was a continuation of a big job I'd done a few years ago and while I think I was able to help my friend work out what happened on the technical side of things, and how to respond, I saw an excerpt of the email he received and I'm still residually stressed out this morning even though it's not my problem at all now haha. I most definitely don't miss those days (even though the original job was one of the more rewarding ones that we did really well out of). Had a moment of reflection on the really really shitty year I had with flaming out badly and getting bullied by my boss and I'm so happy I was able to come out of it on the other side and look back without too much pain.

5 hours late, then they send a no show apology 😡

Seeing petrol go up around some places in town. ~$2 in Brighton, $1.65 in Springy.
- I was reminded by my manager today too. I'd better fuel up soon too. Late Easter this year means I think high prices will last a bit longer

I want so badly to draw or do something but not enough to actually be able to do it. It’s like my mind and body are fried.
Almost a week after the iron infusion I’m still aching, nauseous, have a splitting headache and going between hot and cold.

I just got confirmation the car dealer has received my bank transfer. So I can now stop stressing & the pickup tomorrow is ready to go.
Now I'll have to get used to the blinkers being on the other side. Plus the fuel tank is on the opposite side to what I'm used to. At least it's not as much of an adjustmant as Mr Woof will have to make, he'll need to get used to travelling in a crate instead of having the whole back seat.
- Regarding the fuel tank side...when in doubt, there should be an arrow on your fuel gauge showing you where the tank is.
  
  There is. But it's on the opposite side to the car I have now (and I think every car I have ever had) so I'm sure I'll autopilot to the wrong side at least once. I'm guessing the 3d or 4th time I fill up.
- I've got a harness and a clip leash that clicks into the passenger seat belt receiver, but also my dog is little.
  
  Mr Woof is fairly little too, but I believe the air bag can make the passenger seat unsafe for dogs (like it is for children).
  I've been trying to figure out if it would be unsafe for a cat in a carrier, but the info I find is all self-contradictory AI garbage and clickbait websites copying each other rather than anything that seems like it is actually trustworthy.
- you get used to the indicator pretty quickly, its only an issue if your driving 2 cars that have indicators on different sides to each other.
  
  I used to drive a Volvo, so have done the indicator switch before. I still occassionally do the wrong side for absolutely no reason. When I drove my Mum's VW for a week I got it right about 90% of the time.

  Spending money domestically where you can is part of ensuring that there are Australian workers. Obviously there are practical limitations on when and where you can do this, but purchasing locally supports local jobs

Came home late last night from the psych to find mrs and tinyest eating 2 minute noodles out of a bowl on (as well as off of) the floor. Apparently this was the "compromise" to get him to eat. Glad I washed the floor the other day.

Some 10 Min dreams last weeks and some hours long dreams last minutes.

Something disastrous happened the other day. We eat a lot of pine nuts so whilst in aldi I thought I'd grab some more. I didn't check. Just through them in like an amateur. Well, when I got home, I realised they were pepita seeds. Some turd put them in the pine nut box! Wtf am I gonna do with pepita seeds? I already have some in the cupboard. Luckily I have cashews to save the day.
My own fault for not checking that one time.
- Pepitas are nice. Different flavour to pine nuts but equally snackable. Use in pesto, roast gently and sprinkle with salt & chilli powder for snax. Add to salads etc. Grind to a paste and mix with tahini/lemon/garlic for a different hommous. Truth to tell, I like them better than pine nuts - more options to tweak the flavours.
  
  They're glorified bird seed. The only thing I use them in is muesli bars.

switched to vodafone. Seems to be working ok so far, but they did screw me on that bonus data. Good thing I took some screen caps of the chat promising that the data would be honored if I activated later.
- It is confusing but the bonus data has always been from the first recharge of that prepaid plan (i.e. in a year). It's still good value without it though. But by this time next year there might be a Boost offer to move back to. 😁
  
  if I make it last 10 months it'll only cost me 15 bucks a month with 22 gig of data. Really not bad. test will be how good that roaming onto optus works when I go out into the country.

Outside of here the internet is so loudly full of young teens and children. I avoid anywhere they might be expected to hang around and move to places for adults - but they are also there and that’s actually worse.
Not a new thing but now they don’t hide their ages and in fact they make it your problem. The behaviour is also much more inappropriate and disruptive.
Please just let me enjoy my downtime or occupy myself when unwell. -_-

argh, beautiful day wasted waiting for REA 😠

Had to log in install an app and allow location (which I will be turning off) just to be able to print a test page and run the head cleaning thing… on a printer.
I swear ten years ago this crap would have seemed like malware. Requiring a full colour cartridge to print b+w is definitely a scam.
No black is printing despite it saying the cartridge has some. Waiting on a second level clean and next I’m going to try installing new drivers.
Missing my hulking reliable old printer scanner and wishing I didn’t buy a HP.
- Cory Doctorow talks about how printer ink is the most expensive liquid you can buy as a consumer. More expensive than pure bred racing horse semen (gross comparison though). He suggests a response to US tariffs being that Canada disregards printer firmware copyright and undercuts the US market by offering 3rd party printer ink cartridges via illegal reverse engineering.
  
  I wish they would and bring the tech here. You should be able to buy generic and refill.
  There’s libraries but not everyone can easily get there
