Can't wait and will be buying premium if there is one asap. His last app served me well for years

  Your fundamental premise is wrong. We do have knowledge about it because it's supposed to be the same app it was before. But lemmy instead of reddit.
  And we're not talking a AAA game here where it'll cost 60 dollars and there's no reason to prepurchase. Apps are usually cheaper than a coffee.

  As something of a prudent buyer and someone who never preorders anything, I too will be buying premium day one regardless of the state of the app. I can pretty easily defend this decision too; we've had a very long time to get to know the developer. He has proven time and time again that he creates a very high quality and high performance application while respecting and treating his users well. I got way more than my money's worth out of Sync for Reddit and will gladly throw some more money at such a great developer. Not to mention we're not talking massive amounts of money here... haha
  
  Oh the horror, bad American for wanting to support a developer as they launch a new product that is built on the premise of one they used and loved for years.
  Instead of supporting a Dev who's proved themselves, we should harbor deep skepticism and try to skate by on a free product for as long as possible because that $5 is really, really, super, duper gonna break the bank if the app isn't absolutely everything I want it to be.

- I wish this link and others like it worked on Jerboa. It always cycles back to my home feed and I just end up momentarily wondering what could have been before moving on.
  
  If you use F-Droid, you could try an app called ImgurViewer to view these quickly

It appears that it is getting close to a full release for Sync for Lemmy. My only concert is that it might go to a subscription only method of payment. I'd rather pay a lot for a one time unlock or even like a 2 year unlock instead of a monthly subscription.
Im getting subscription burnout and I'm sick of having to juggle literally a hundred subscriptions every month. If it does go subscription based, sadly I'll probably pass on it. Which would be a sad close to a long history of using sync.

  That seems fair. I'm in the camp that is really hesitant to take on another subscription but also understand that this your living and it has to be worthwhile for you.

- Not related to this app, but I agree very much about subscriptions. I cancelled most of mine.
  
  I think I'll be canceling my Prime this year. The single biggest waste of a subscription.
- There will be a single time payment for ad-free as was the case with Sync for Reddit. Any subscription based model is for the features which are going to require running (and paying) for a server. Even for Ultra (the paid subscription model) we would most likely have a lifetime option.
- Sync dev can have all my Google opinion rewards money. Pretty much what I use them for.
- As there is only a handful of lemmy users compared to reddit, I think simply relying on one time purchase is not sustainable for the dev. After the bot accounts purge, there seems to be 1 million lemmy users right now, and only a fraction that is an active users, say, 20% of it (very generous), which translate to 200,000 users. If even 1% of those users bought Sync for Lemmy for $10 (no idea what the actual price will be), it would means 2000 people buy the app. With app store's 30% cut, that means the dev only got $14,000, which is peanuts assuming he'll need to support the app as long as the reddit version (10 years or more?).

  Connect dev here - I am! Big fan of Sync (which probably comes through in Connect's design language). RIF and Infinity is also a source of inspiration.

I'm looking forward to replacing the Sync icon I still have sitting on my homescreen that just throws a 401. Can't bring myself to kill it.

I paid for regular Sync, I paid for Dev Sync when the new UI was only in that channel, and I will gladly pay for Lemmy Sync the second I can!

I'm excited and pre-registered. I didn't pay for sync for reddit, but now that I am more educated about the life of developers and third party apps, I will def pay for sync for lemmy. I have heard good things about some of the existing apps, but I have just been using the web browser while I wait for the sync app to be ready, and I am so ready to download and use it. <3
- I donated to Boost for Reddit. I will probably donate to Boost for Lemmy as well. With the nature of Lemmy though, we can't forget to donate to our favorite instances too!
  
  I still don't fully understand the fediverse, but I'm starting to. I know that the .world or the .ml or the .ee or whatever are the "instances" and that I can see all the stuff on all of them even tho I use .world. I am sure I will understand it better once I can start using sync again (or at least start understanding it in the capacity in which I'll be using it). How do I support an instance? I'm also a broke bitch and don't have a ton of disposable income, but reddit was and lemmy now is a service I appreciate and rely on, so I want to support the people providing said service, although I'm so grateful that I've been able to use sync for free for essentially the last decade.

Can't wait to delete all the other lemmy apps I've been trying. Most do most things well, but none do everything well like Sync.

Oh shit, everyone this is big. This is the big one. On reddit, Reddit WAS Sync. It was why I started using reddit in the first place.
Now, Lemmy is Sync. Lets gooo

  I tried jeroba and connect but ended up sticking with jeroba. It's not too bad and I didn't want to spend a lot of time trying different apps only to inevitably switch to sync lmao.

I used to use Sync for Reddit for years, but I use Jerboa now.
What does Sync offer over that?

- Can't say I've had that. But then maybe that's a server related issue and the bit of the fediverse I'm connecting to is more stable.
  
  Continuous loading is usually related to your home instance being overloaded (e.g., Lemmy bug, excessive traffic, DDoS attack).
- Plenty of small quality of life features that sync for reddit had which jerboa doesn't. Posting from alt accounts from the comment window, extensive customization options, material design UI, different themes and settings for different accounts, and plenty of others that I don't remember off the top of my head.
  Jerboa is by no means bad but as a long time sync user, I'm really excited to have the familiarity of sync back.
  
  Jerboa is my winning app since I signed up to Lemmy. However, I'm still not totally pleased with it and find myself switching between that and thunder. I'm excited Sync is coming here and I'll definitely preregister but I'm pining for my previous Boost

  Yep, I migrated to Sync when it came out. I even paid for the Pro version because of how performant it is.

Exciting news, though honestly I'm blown away by how good the Wefweg/Voyager PWA is. I'm still gonna give sync a shot to see how it feels but shoutouts to the Voyager devs for making me hesitate.

Combined with lemmy.world's recent server fixes, I finally feel like Lemmy is about to be ready for its next big step, with Sync leading the charge.

This is going to help so much in popularizing lemmy! I hope it handles the federation and instances bit good enough for fediverse newbies to join in without much friction.
