Women interviewed by the Guardian report agencies denying them food and passports, holding them captive, and ‘selling’ them on social media
In a series of interviews conducted over several years, 14 women from east Africa and the Philippines recounted their experiences with recruitment agencies hiring for the United Arab Emirates, including alleging they were denied food, held captive and treated violently.
I really think the use of the word workers here instead of slaves is disingenuous. Its like saying suitor or botfriend instead of rapist. This is clearly slavery not " reminiscent of slavery".
