Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
The Bible says the exact opposite, saying you shouldn’t be a hard person, but God will turn you into a soft one. Religious people are so stupid sometimes.
Finally, all of you, have unity of spirit, sympathy, love for one another, a tender heart, and a humble mind.
Some transitions encourage us to be "meek" as well.
"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth."
In some translations it's"humble" or "gentle".
Sometimes?
Shhh I was trying to be nice
The show Scrubs sort of changed my perspective on this. Religion has its place as a thing for people to grab on to in order to give them the strength to make it to the next day.
The problem comes when religion is used to oppress others.
I was gonna say "It's kinda a prereq"
Yeah I think if you go back to Genesis you'll see that God pretty clearly wanted a naive vegan nudist roommate.
Don’t we all?
You think these people read the Bible?
It’s very selective. They know Bible stories from Sunday school and have been told a few passages.
It’s a really complicated anthology of books written across 1000ish years (earliest being fragmentary bits of poetry preserved in altered context, most of it being 400 BCE on). Tons of it is related to distant political struggles or cultural norms, stuff so hopelessly distant from us and written in hard to understand language (especially with this KJV only-ists.)
Then, you add 2000 years of history, pop culture, and interpretation. It’s a really difficult text and it’s difficult for anyone to understand without getting a lot of support and context. The context is often presented in a misleading way, pick your denomination and flavor of distortion
No need for the qualifier. Religion is dumb.
If Jesus came back, these dipshits would have him crucified way faster than those nerd ass Romans.
Was Jesus “hard?” Not from what I’ve read. He was a kind, gentle, caring soul who avoided confrontation, never harmed anyone, and preach forgiveness, compassion, and love.
The right wing and their obsession over “manliness” is so pathetic.
Well there was that one time he started flipping tables and whipping people. But that was against grifters selling shit in the temple, so...
Yeah. He lost his temper once but that’s the exception proving the rule.
Yeah, when asking "What would Jesus do?" it's important to remember that extraordinary violence might be one of the answers.
And chased merchants out of the temple while brandishing a whip and kicking down their tables.
Americans got such a hard on because he "said" something like: trade your tunic for a sword and interpret that as "jesus told me to get some guns"
Try right click > open in new tab or something
....No? That's literally the exact opposite of what the biblical God expects of men.
Jesus says that men should be compassionate, selfless, giving, and loving. That they should help orphans & widows, the sick & injured, people in prison and even..... foreigners.
Christianity has been invaded & commodified for even more horrific purposes. And I could not be more disappointed in anyone who believes this slop. Because the ones who believe this are the ones who never read the Bible and takes everything at face value.
And a pastor or someone successful claiming to be a "Christian" would never lie! Right? .....RIGHT???
They can no longer discern the wolves from their flock, and God will not have mercy on them.
Hallelujah, holy shit.
A truly devout Christian would work alongside Marxists as they have similar goals
I'm gonna steel-man this. I don't think that being "hard" means being an asshole. It can mean having strength of character. Courage in the face of fear, that kind of thing. You can be that kind of hard and also be compassionate.
Having said that, it is pretty shitty to assign that to a gender. Anybody of any gender can have a strong character. Also, I haven't read the article this is referring to, so it could be full of toxic masculinity for all I know.
You can be sensitive while also being bold. You can be kind while also being firm. You can be helpful while also being strong.
None of these things cancel each other out.
Unfortunately, the shittiness of "BEING A HARD MAN" typically embodies a lot of shitty stereotypes about """masculinity""": must limit your emotions, never apologize even if you're wrong, don't do """girly/sissy""" things, etc. It's garbage.
A man who lets his nieces paint his nails and isn't ashamed of that isn't less of a man. A man who cries during romantic movies isn't less of a man. You know the drill.
Have you read the Old Testament? Genocide is pretty "hard" I'd say.
I'm a formerly of the faith. I've read it all an uncountable amount of times.
The New Testament is kinda of a "new era" for the tone of Christianity. The sacrifice of Jesus was the old ways being re-written and ushering in the new way. His death made it so people no longer had to make blood sacrifices and offerings in order to be forgiven. It really is a beautiful story.
The absolute selfishness and barbarism endorsed by many modern-day "Christians" would make Jesus weep.
Luckily, Jesus also promises that they will get what they are owed in the end.
Where is the passage where God asked men to be hard?
When God says "cum before me"
Probably Genesis 3:17-19. Our society has turned decadent. We have to go back to toiling in the fields, as God intended!
Oh, he has risen alright ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I dunno. Maybe. Have you seen that jacked up Korean Jesus?
That's the out Jesus for me. Otherwise I'm a weird pagan
I WANT HIS SAVIOR SEMEN ON MY FACE
Holy golden shower
No thanks. Far as I can tell, I'm not missing any pieces other than my appendix. And that tried to kill me so I'd rather he not put another one in.
The virgin Mary isn’t gonna be a virgin forever with that kinda talk.
IF YOU HARD YOU HARD
fuck yeah
i wanna fuck your god so hard in the ass his religion becomes a thing of the past.
I wanna go so deep I make Mary blush and weep.
I think you get the point.
like your god who will get the tip. and the shaft.
and fingers, ohh about 3 and a half.
wow god fucking jokes write them selves. maybe He is guiding my hand! praise jeebus.
Where in the Bible does God command you to be hard in the way the first tweet is suggesting? I know he commands you to be hard in the other way with the line that says "go forth and multiply."
nothing manlier than animal exploitation and a total disregard for climate change.
Check his avatar and that pic. Money says tough guy here couldn't hang with my old ass outside at Lowe's for a single shift. He'd stroke out if I strapped 20lbs. to his back, handed him a rifle and marched him down to the creek with me. LOL, he ain't gonna cowboy nothing.
And what in the AI is that cowboy supposed to be doing? Running, uh, fence? Creating a lasso out of, uh, ropey stuff?
He's unbaling hay to roll it out or let it loose in a feeder ring. Holding twine or net wrap and next to a big pile of hay. Don't think it's AI. Cows usually get pretty interested when someone is doing that. Tend to swarm to get to be the first one with their head in the hay.
lol he’s about to get run over by that stampede because he has no horse.
Isn't mud pretty soft?
I'm built for comfort not for speed
Most men I know are doughy as fuck.
Get thee to a gym. Stop eating crap.
The hard, true man Eric conn is a rancher with a blog. Doing God's real work of desissyfying America, one substack article at a time.
The world needs more hard men like this guy with his online journal!
Right? The hardest men I've ever known LOVED to write self-help articles for people they looked down on in their spare time. 🙄
I think what cracks me up is this Eric Conn dude is probably a keyboard warrior working a desk job or something. I highly doubt he's out busting his ass herding cattle and building fences then making some self righteous post on xitter.
this is jesus lowkey fishing for a 13th apostle you didn't think he was a top right? who tops 12 times a night
This might be the best thing I've seen on Lemmy.
