I distinctly remember a John Stossel (American libertarian talking head) special about capitalism and socialism, must’ve been close to 20 years ago. But there was this brief segment of it where he interviewed a socialist politician (they didn’t say Kerala specifically but they said “this state has been run by communists for years” so I assume it was Kerala). Stossel said something about you are poor (referring to generalized Indian poverty) because of your “stupid system”. Nice to see another libertarian dummy getting proven wrong yet again. Many such cases.

They are making use of the limited financial resources and autonomy they are provided by the Indian Central Government. I hope the LDF wins again next year. Unfortunately, there are certain well-off liberals who want to bring back the extremely corrupt and incompetent UDF Government.

ok yeah social democrats in the global south are generally better than those in the global north, but this party was literally just cheering on India's attempt to start a war with Pakistan. i wouldn't call national chauvinists of any kind "communists", and the policies of this party are nothing more than developmentalism (which is better than the immediate alternative for sure but falls way short of what's needed)
i'd rather be led by these guys than the BJP don't get me wrong but can we stop watering down the ideological content of "communism" and start taking a more critical attitude. there's an actual communist insurgency in India going on right now and they desperately need international attention.

it's mostly 'crushed', the state is now just killing tribal people. Maoist actions used to be daily news in the 2000s and early 2010s but now it's much rarer.

Vietnam has started sending its workers to Israel. China has continued its trade with Israel when it could've destroyed Israel's economy. Communist countries with sovereign powers are engaged in cheap opportunism. Yet, I still support them in the way they have developed compared to other global south countries.
CPI and CPI(M)'s stance was tailism, they supported the war because there was public support for the same, I don't agree with it but that doesn't change my support in general.

you are right, it's tailism, and it's not good enough. revolutionary defeatism or bust. nothing else has ever achieved anything productive.
of course as I said, I still support them over most other parties in the country, which are objectively worse. However we cannot allow "communism" to be reduced in content to global south developmentalism that indulges itself in chauvinist warmongering.

yeah, when it comes to ethno-religious conflict that traces its origins back to arbitrary borders drawn by the British, I expect a communist organisation to not start cheerleading one or the other side. Srry if the standard established by Lenin and the Bolsheviks during WW1 is too high for you to meet. Beating on Hindutva war drums is very obviously not the same as progressive, liberationist nationalism.

there's an actual communist insurgency in India going on right now and they desperately need international attention.
My heart goes out to them but anyone who goes and tries to pay attenttion to them (ie read Nightmarch by Alpa Sha or follow news about them) will just realize how utterly fucked their situation is and that maoists are really just larping and offsetting their responsibility to reach political power where they live onto poor people when they hype them up too much. So not worth pretending that they've achieved more than the Keralans or that insurgency is actually their preferred strategy rather than what they've been forced to do.

This is just social democracy with a coat of red. A large part of Kerala's income is from remittances by Keralites working abroad in horrible conditions.

Remittances are a huge factor in most global south countries' income, its not just kerala. Thats more on Kerala still being subjected to imperialism as part of the indian state and not any failure of the local leftists.

Yup. That Kerala can be this good while being imperialized through taxes makes it twice as impressive (same goes for South India as a whole, and a few other states too)

yes, Kerala has a huge diaspora bringing in money from abroad (which is especially beneficial because of exchange rates). It's not the Kerala Government policy to forcibly send workers to Gulf States. People go there because where you earn $250 in Kerala, you earn $700-$1000 abroad. Is that good? No, but the people aren't going there out of sheer desperation.
Should the current Mexican Government (or even the previous ones) be blamed for undocumented immigrants working in terrible conditions in the US? No.
