Android Auto seems to be having connection issues with Pixel devices lately for some
Some Google Pixel owners are seeing connection issues with Android Auto lately, with no clear cause to point at.
Most of the comments there seem to confirm it.
I noticed this on my Pixel Fold today. It took several reconnects and turning my car on and off at the signals to get it to connect.
I just had this issue yesterday with my Pixel 4a. I tired rebooting the car and phone without success. Luckily my wife plugged in her Pixel 5 and that worked.
Previous to yesterday, it's been solid.

I don't use Android Auto but if it was updated yesterday then maybe you could try downgrading it?
It's been so unreliable lately especially when using Waze. Plus reporting via voice on Waze hasn't been working for ages. Add the intermittent disconnections and I'm tempted to buy a cheap iPhone for Carplay when driving
