In this video I discuss how YouTube fighting ad blockers is actually making ad blocking extensions and browsers more powerful, and how there is a long history of things like this happening on the inte...
"((( )))"? I thought that was a crowd saying something e.g "((( that's what she said )))". Or being a really fat dude. I remember :-))) being a smiley with a triple chin.
Babylon Bee is a sad excuse for a right wing Onion that does nothing but punch down and repeat the same "I identity as an attack helicopter" type of humor.
Yeah, I checked it out, and the jokes were rather lousy. The Onion's jokes not always land, but they don't feel lousy. I guess it's because they're still smart.
When they're not doing that, it can actually be pretty good. Punching down is one of the main reasons why "the left can't meme." They can make spicy memes when they're punching up. Rightoids needlessly punching down only drives away potential converts.
For real. I didn't realize how bad all of the YouTube alternatives are. They are just flooded with neo-nazis and bigots. It just sucks with how we really don't have much choice other than to use something like newpipe.
In my mind it makes sense that the more extreme people tend to gravitate from public circles and tend to land in places that have less moderation and more freedom of speech unfortunately.
There's a reason speech isn't 100% free. Yelling fire in a crowded theatre is never cool even when it's Great White, but in our eternal September someone's always lobbing the fart jokes because for their little mind it's new and cool.
YouTube is also that way. It's just that it gets buried down by the shitload of people who use it.
Eh to degree, but the reason neonazis and bigots seem to flock to/make up a majority of these sites is often because they're getting banned on YouTube - and these video platforms opt to survive by leaning into that instead of properly moderating their platform.
Odysee is pretty mixed, but all alternative platforms are going to attract people who were pushed out of mainstream platforms, which biases them toward weird political orientations.
Personally, I prefer peertube, but odyssee had potential... before the nutters. Peertube has this issue, too, but being decentralization, it's more of finding an instance with less nut. Like soy, nuts are in everything.
I was talking about the content creators that post solely on odysee specifically, as they tend to be as nut as the commenters (not always, of course). But you bring up a good point. There are two main problems with odysee...
