He was asked if he would open source the project but from what I can tell he said no. It's not like it was obligatory for him to do that anyways, but when you read some of the comments in the other thread, it feels like almost a demand coming from the community rather than an ask.
I was talking more about the UI specifications and not about open sourcing the entire app. In any case it seems I was wrong because I could find nothing relating to Christian sharing his code or specification relating to apollo's UI.
This makes me respect @aeharding@lemmy.world even more because he was able to create an app pretty similar to Apollo(UI wise) by writing everything from scratch
The community shouldn't have had to do that. He should have continued being a gentleman and pass the torch. He did the silly, whiny thing and said "If i can have my cake nobody else gets it to". I will never buy another app eith his name on it, broke muh heart :(
I am allowed to enjoy Voyager's free labor and I will show my gratitude when I am able by supporting it financially.
Its real creepy how you think someone can pull thr carpet when they had options and expect me to go without something I relied on and paid the requisite fee to do so. I wouod absoltely entertain paying a monthly API cost for myself thru Apollo but he vetoed that unlike Narwhal.
This is exactly why people thumb their noses at subscriptions. The moment the dev gets pissed off or wants more money (i would pay tr API fee if he facillitsted that thru Apollo) you're screwed. Thats whats creepy and unacceptable. /story
