The sad thing is seeing Russians making videos pleading to Putin for help. It's a weird culturally specific thing like fan death in Korea going back hundreds of years. Russians put all their faith in the strong guy in charge. Like, "if the czar only knew how incompetent his underlings are, he would swoop in and make it all right!" Putin's underlings don't care if the Russian people freeze, and neither does Putin. Seems that the people who figure this out get the fuck out, and the belief persists.
Same thing in Germany, literally "if only the Führer knew!"
Maybe it's an autocratic thing.
Heck, the good king being kept in the dark by his evil underlings is a really old trope too.

Good point. I'll have to look up "fan death" right now! You owe me a half hour, in which I am supposed to be cleaning the bathroom.
In summary, there is this belief in South Korea that if you leave an electric fan on in a closed room overnight, it can kill you, supposedly by asphyxiation or hypothermia. There is not really a basis for this theory in reality, and it seems that younger Koreans are less likely to believe this theory.
Now that I think about it more, perhaps my next Halloween costume should be a Grim Reaper costume with a fan on my face.
