I understand that the developers of this wonderful world are living on donations right now. Communities that pay for themselves are nicer places!
I found the donate link here (https://join-lemmy.org/donate), but that seems to go to just one developer. I would like to donate to everyone, including the creators of Lemmy as a whole, and the creators of Lemmy.World.
So, that one developer is the main developer of Lemmy, and you may be surprised to find out there are only two of them. Lemmy is open source and takes contributions from others, but its development is driven by two full time devs.
If you want to donate to development, that's how to do it. If you want to donate to a specific instance to keep it online, then follow any donation instructions in your instance's sidebar.
Great. There seem to be two ways to donate, Patreon and OpenCollective. Is one better than the other for the devs regarding fees? Afaik Patreon claims a small fee, not sure about OpenCollective.
The devs prefer Liberapay or OpenCollective due to their FOSS nature, but ultimately the choice is up to you. I use Liberapay, and unfortunately there are fees there, too.
