My pixel assistant says I need to download an update, so I click update and then it just cycles and never downloads anything. Has anyone run into this before?
Just trying to figure out how to get this update going since it says it's been "downloading" for 3 days without an active status bar showing anything. Just a rollie circle piece of s***.
I've been using the internet all three days with a stable connection, what's going on?
Unfortunately I did have this issue. Fairly recently. I went through pixel support and they advised checking your upload/download speed, restarting the phone, then just leaving it on a charger overnight and seeing if it moves at all.
After all, I had to back everything up manually and factory reset the phone. This worked.
I wanted to like the pixel, and it's fine, but it's not at all worth the discounted price I paid for it.
There's always been one irritating f****** thing going on that I have to troubleshoot, plus its storage limitations, or some issue that Google has known about for literally years and just refuses to fix even though the entire consumer base wants them to and has filed reports about it.
I'm getting the fairphone next, at least I can feel good about that purchase and honestly since I can customize it so much more than any of these f****** Android and iPhones and doesn't have any bloatware, it's probably going to end up running better even without the latest tensor chip or whatever the f***.
I do not like the overprocessing of the pixel camera, and even when choosing raw, there is a very clear difference of the picture I choose to take and the picture that blips into reality a half second later that has all sorts of processing done to it regardless of the options I choose.
The now playing feature that tells me about songs around me is garbage, and works maybe 10% of the time. I can't believe how rarely it works.
The reminder system, timer system All the clock stuff since they updated it so that I have to manually move the clock hands instead of just typing it in is so much trouble that I exclusively click the assistant and use speech to set my reminders. While I like to do that, My assistant might misunderstand me sometimes, and when it asks for clarification, no matter what date and time I say it resets the reminder to tomorrow and asks at what time, and I have to tap in my phone to fix what should be one of the fundamental tasks of assistant that works perfectly.
There's of course the bloatware b*******, and most of it is hidden and completely inaccessible.
Making a wallpaper that fits the home screen infuriating because you can't just choose one home screen, so I have to crop edit and just try different photos until I'm not cutting off half the body or half the limbs that the preview tells me are within the frame but once I set it or not within the home screen.
And speaking of the home screen, I can't remove the f****** day and date from the top left of the screen at all. That is absolutely absurd.
I can't remove the Google bar from the bottom which is b*******, so that my phone can't help looking cluttered when all I want is a blank home screen that has the wallpaper I like.
Non-expandable storage is also crazy to me. I had a Taiwanese phone that had up to 4 terabytes of expandable storage like 6 years ago. I couldn't believe it when I saw American flagship phones being sold with only 128 GB of storage. That's like kindergarten level.
Every time I open up my photos, it asks me to backup my photos. Every time I say no. And it opens up and says why don't you just choose some photos and you can back those ones up? And I click no, and the question goes away but it asks me every single time. This is with the option to backup photos checked off so that I clearly don't want to back up my photos online.
The microphone recorder app is b*******, something is wrong with the program. I can use other apps to record audio or record video, but if I just want to take an audio note it's full of hissing and static if I use the stock app.
And obviously all the update problems they have with bricking phones or they're like hey don't update even though we pushed out an update in or telling you to update, don't do it, It's super dangerous and it'll be your fault if you update and your phone breaks.
Speaking of phones breaking, my phone has something rattling around inside of it and I had to stay online for maybe 90 minutes doing idiotic software checks that were obviously not the problem because it was a physical rattling inside the case, and finally after they were like, let's just try the factory reset okay?, I was like no I'm not going to do a factory reset on my phone for what is clearly a hardware issue.
After I said that three times when they kept insisting I do a factory reset, the support guy I was talking to side and was like " fine. If you don't want to follow these repair procedures, you can go take it to a repair shop since it's under warranty".
Could have just told me that 90 minutes ago since I told you it's a hardware problem and you keep having me turn my Wi-Fi off and on or reset my camera or some dumb shit.
There are too many issues to list, although I might actually answer you again if I think of a particularly grievous one.
Given that the seven and eight look exactly the same as the six in functionality, I don't think I'll be getting a Google phone again unless something significant is changed about its function.
It's very confusing to me how this can be a flagship American phone.
Well, that was fun. Thanks.
Oh, I'll add that the glass case on the pixel is so slippery I had to add stickers to it so it wouldn't just slide off literally any incline, or a rock or anything, anything at all it will slide straight off because the glass is so smooth.
