President's handling hits new lows; Democrats have grown less supportive of aid to Israel.
An increasing number of Americans want Joe Biden to encourage Israel to stop military actions in Gaza; and Mr. Biden's handling of the situation is now down to its lowest levels yet.
In the poll, conducted before Iran's drone and missile attack on Israel, there wasn't much clamor among the U.S. public for U.S. military action against Iran, were Iran to strike Israel. More would instead have the U.S. support Israel's next actions.
They did not. The UN report actually confirmed that multiple claims made in the NYT article were falsified. Need I remind you that NYT did not just claim there was a single rape (and we don't have evidence for even ONE) but claimed that Hamas used systematic rape as a weapon of war. A claim we now know is a blatant lie.
The UN report stated that there were only testimonies and no evidence for any rape happening. And that a forensic investigation would be necessary to conclude if any rape happened as the UN team sent did not have an investigatory mandate.
Israel is still blocking the UN forensic team to collect evidence to this day (the UN team asked to investigate shortly after oct7)
For more information Normal Finkelstein wrote a good article about it:
The Patten mission states that it was “unable to establish the prevalence” of sexual violence “during and after the 7 October attacks,” and that a “comprehensive assessment ... would require a fully-fledged investigation by competent bodies with adequate time and capacity.”
The report further states that “While the mission team was able to meet with some released hostages as well as with some survivors and witnesses of the attacks, it did not meet with any survivor-victim of sexual violence from 7 October despite concerted efforts encouraging them to come forward (emphasis added). Doesn’t it give pause that, more than three months after the attack, none of the alleged victims of—according to the Israeli government and the New York Times—rampant, systematic sexual violence on 7 October stepped forward to testify before the mission? Not one. The report endeavors to paper over this glaring lacuna by pointing up “the lack of trust by survivors” in the United Nations. But in the instant case, it was the Israeli government itself that orchestrated this UN mission’s visit. It’s hard to fathom that in a country celebrated for its tribal closing of ranks in the face of external danger, and—not incidentally—in a culture known for its libertine sexual frankness, not a single victim of not just rape but sexual violence of any type was willing, and couldn’t be coaxed, to testify before a Government-blessed mission at such an existential moment in the nation’s history.
The Patten mission’s mandate perplexes. Its initial press release (24 January 2024) states that its purpose was to “gather, analyze and verify relevant information regarding allegations of” sexual violence. But it also emphatically states that, although it included a small team of technical experts, the “mission is neither intended nor mandated to be investigative in nature.” If, on the one hand, the mission was mandated to “gather, analyze and verify” evidence of sexual violence, and refers in the report to its “findings” and to having “verified” alleged instances of sexual violence; yet, on the other hand, the mission emphatically declares that it wasn’t “investigative in nature”
In this regard it can’t but be wondered why Israel extended the “invitation” to Pramila Patten in the first place and why the Patten mission “benefited from the full cooperation of the Government of Israel.” This was unprecedented, a first. In the past as well as in the instant case, Israel has consistently and categorically refused to cooperate with formal UN investigations.
Based on the examination of available information, including credible statements by eyewitnesses, there are reasonable grounds to believe that multiple incidents of rape, including gang rape, occurred in and around the Nova festival site during the 7 October attacks. Credible information was obtained regarding multiple incidents whereby victims were subjected to rape and then killed. There are further accounts of individuals who witnessed at least two incidents of rape of corpses of women. Other credible sources at the Nova music festival site described seeing multiple murdered individuals, mostly women, whose bodies were found naked from the waist down, some totally naked, with some gunshots in the head and/or tied including with their hands bound behind their backs and tied to structures such as trees or poles.
Many bodies along Road 232 also suffered destructive burn damage and conclusions as to conflict-related sexual violence (including genital mutilation) related to these incidents could not be drawn. The mission team was also able to ascertain that multiple bodies of women and a few men were found totally or partially naked or with their clothes torn, including some bound and/or attached to structures, which – though circumstantial – may be indicative of some forms of sexual violence.
Yes that part of the UN report gets debunked in the article I linked with the text I linked. It is a very weird conclusion but not surprising since Pramilla got invited by israel to write propaganda. The word "credible" for the witnesses is doing a lot of heavy lifting there as she met with multiple ZAKA employees which wrote the 40 beheaded babies lies.
The report also undoes that paragraph by stating that it does not have any evidence to make those claims. And that for any conclusions to be drawn there would need to be a real investigation.
Furthermore the report states it has analyzed 50 hours of video footage and 5000 photos which NYT also included in their claims for mass rape. But Pramillas report states that there was zero evidence in it for any rape in any of that media, debunking the NYT lie.
The only thing this report proved is that there is no forensic nor media evidence for any rape happening contrary to the NYT claims.
The Patten mission debunks the narrative of atrocity propaganda such as the stabbing of pregnant women.
It also clearly states, that rapes occured. At multiple locations.
It clearly states that it is based purely on "witness testimonies" using sources such as ZAKA, the people who spread the stabbing lies to begin with.
It also states that after checking all israeli evidence, there is no forensic or media evidence of any rape happening. And that a real UN investigation would need to take place to draw any conclusions about rape.
The reason it debunks there lies of stabbed pregnant women is of course because there is no evidence for it just like the rape allegations.
