I get what you're saying, everything the article is hand-wringing about is in reality extremely good and necessary, so any thinking person's reaction is "wait, you're saying that's bad?" But the author's perspective was clear from the get-go with lines like "Forget saving the planet - now she wants to save Palestine" You can just feel the smug eyeroll. And referring to activists as "climate zealots" in the byline. You can easily tell that Brenden feels revulsion for the people who feel revulsion for the capitalism that is so dear to his precious little heart.
I looked into this Brendan O'Neill guy. He's obsessed with Thunberg. He calls climate activism a cult and once mocked her for being neurodivergent. He's some right wing Australian ghoul
This level of slop makes me sometimes wonder what context the author is operating in. Like is this a Sunday night "oh shit I need something for deadline" or did they spend a couple days on this?
I hope this is Brendan quiet quitting. Minimum effort. "Greta is a land of contrasts" level shit. But, he's probably worked on this for awhile.
It is, unfortunately, the same struggle as all left of centre causes on that front. Glad to see some sense being spoken though (even if this article feels super weird and artificial? Maybe I'm scared of my own shadow now because of AI idk)
Edit: Apparently this article is instead written by a right wing weirdo who's obsessed with Thunberg so close enough to AI lmao
"exposed" has this ever been a secret? There's a reason green parties also support wealth redistribution more than liberals.
Anybody with two brain cells to rub together knows that we have a choice between capitalism and the future. And you're surprised they're against the status quo of just having capitalism for a short time?
The upper-middle class recycling obsessive in Hampstead might seem a million miles from the bearded radical who publicly sings the praises of Allah – but they share an instinctive revulsion for capitalist society. One sees it as a crime against Mother Nature, the other as an affront to Muhammad.
