Reddit is removing your chat history from before 2023::As part of a migration to a new architecture, Reddit chose not to migrate chat histories before 2023. Though it offers a way for users to request their old data, including chat histories, some users say they’re still missing messages.

People used the chat feature?
- IIRC, the only chats I ever got were... like... bots for brands, or OF girls.
  
  And newbies who didn’t realize that chat was trash that didn’t work on 3rd party apps.
  
  The only time I ever chatted was with a guy who tried convincing me the Holocaust wasn't real
- They never made it available to 3P apps. I always figured they bought a chat system off the shelf just to say they had it.

  There was. I turned it off in 2019 because I was using a 3rd party Reddit app and didn't realize 5 people tried to message me through the chat feature.
  
  Yeah that's how I feel because I used uBlock to hide the icon
- Towards the end there anytime someone would pm me about something like 80% of the time it'd be a chat. I exclusively browsed on Reddit sync so when I randomly got on reddit desktop and saw I had like 10 chats from months ago it surprised me. Just goes to show how the community has shifted from when I first started 13 years ago and now imo.
  
  Yeah I used RIF for 99% of my Reddit browsing. Once I logged onto Reddit on my PC and found some months old chat comment for someone that was requesting help with an experience I had. I felt bad about not seeing it because I genuinely would have given them a comment on it sooner if they would have just PMed me.
- Porn subs used it a lot, beyond that I’m pretty sure it was mostly useless
- I had a few people contact me for technical clarification on comments I made. Somebody also briefly used me as a support hotline for technical problems.

Nobody wanted chat on that site anyway. It was all catfish bots and cryptocurrency scams.
- And sometimes both at the same time.
- Gimmick to say the least... terrible in fact, there's too many platforms for chatting as it is -- where Discord shines in that regard

Great. So now I only have the 2023 chats which are 95% of them initiated by bots unlike previous years.

What's a 'reddit'?

I was perma banned on reddit which made it impossible to nuke(edit to gibberish & remove comments) my reddit. Hope this is an actual cleanup and my old comments get perma deleted as well.
- Only CHAT, not comments. Totally different. People used comments, only bots used the chat
