They couldnt even just keep the same voice for Claptrap from the games... such low hanging fucking fruit for the nostalgia points and they fucked that up.
I mean that is pretty par for the course with borderlands. They had a whole sequence in Borderlands 2 where Hammerlock gets annoyed and calls some monster he wants to name “Bonerfart” and then the mission objective is “kill 5 bonerfarts.” so yeah the sequence is a little juvenile/over the top, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen in borderlands 100 times. That’s pretty much the entire shtick. Juvenile violence and “lol random!!11!!!”
I say this as somebody who has many great memories of playing borderlands 1 and 2. Though, I just don’t think this is going to be good no matter how they spin it. It’s not a setting I ever wanted to see turned into film to begin with.
The joke itself isn't off-brand, but the fact its dragged out for so long is. Borderland's humor isn't exactly clever, but its at least fairly fast paced so you aren't left sitting there on the same awful joke.
Also, keep in mind that if they're including this in multiple trailers, they think this is one of the highlights of the movie - that is the more concerning point.
Plus the knee scrape was at least self aware. It way overstays it's welcome on purpose and then overstays even more making it funny again. Only works the first time you watch it though.
Personally I’m looking forward to smoking a bowl, ordering a pizza, and watching the stupid movie.
def the only way I'd watch this, but only if it's already on streaming I have. this cut is also so devoid of all the things that makes the game great, it makes me wonder if there's a lot more but the promotion is afraid to embrace the borderlands WTFery
