Editing Staff Elaborate on "Endo and Kobayashi Live!" Manga's Abrupt Cancellation

From the article:

numerous actions by the editing staff lead to a breach of trust between the editing staff and the original creator (Enoshima)

These are detailed further down in the article:

there were incidents of the vertical-scrolling version of the manga being uploaded without going through the proper oversight and permissions, lack of oversight from the original creator regarding the approvals for the compiled book volumes and the special bonus goods, and frequent communication delays with the original creator, all causing the manga creator Sakaki to halt their drawing of the manga. The editorial staff also admitted to leaks regarding the franchise's media mix plans, which finally led to Enoshima terminating the licensing contract around the end of April earlier this year.

For those curious, here is the mangadex page for the series. The raws end at cha

Florida School District Bans "Sasaki and Miyano" Manga for 'Inappropriate' Content, Reading Direction

This occurred in Brevard, FL. The complaint was lodged by a member of the community. From the article:

A person in the district challenged the book's inclusion in the schools' libraries on the grounds that "sexual orientation should not be encouraged, suggested, or implanted" in the youth.

...

The complaint also included concerns children would be "exposed to age-inappropriate, obscene, explicit content" and that there was "no value in making homosexual books available at school." The book is rated for T for Teens.

The most insane part of this to me is that the chair of the school board also took aim at the right to left reading direction of the series (you know, like every other manga in existence) as well as it including a romantic relationship (like the vast majority of fiction):

Board Chair Megan Wright objected to the book's content due to its focus on a romantic relationship, as well as the Japanese reading format of reading the book from right-to-left.

DL.Getchu.com accepts VISA cards again

Also see this English post about the Japanese Senator visit.

Context: In the past year there were pressure from VISA and Mastercard on shops selling content that can be considered adult; several sites tried to appease them by imposing restrictions on creators, but ultimately VISA and Mastercard stopped doing business with them (or vice versa), thus stopping those shops' ability to accept those forms of payment.

DL.Getchu.com is a Japanese shopping site for doujin manga, and was one of the shops that stopped (or was forced to stop) taking VISA and Mastercard. (Others shops include Toranoana, DLsite, FANZA doujin etc.)

People were concerned about these issues' impact on the freedom of expression. Several days ago, Japanese Senator Yamada Taro went to VISA HQ and confronted executives there. According to him, he was told (machine translation from the news article) "VISA headquarters does not make value judgments on the content ha

Kakao will be going after everyone involved in Tachiyomi

Since we had a thread about Tachiyomi removing extentions I thought this might also be relevant.

Text version:

Tachiyomi, under the guise of 'legitimate' open-source development, has been seriously infringing on the copyright of manhwas worldwide.

We have collected personal details of most individuals involved in this project and plan to proceed with strong legal and institutional response against over 100 forked GitHub pages.

For the official English versions of KakaoPage/Kakao Webtoon, please enjoy them on Tapas!

Be Official, Be Legal Readers.

Not sure how many contributors were involved in Tachiyomi itself but it looks like they'll be aiming for any forked projects as well.

Time to break out GitHub's developer defense fund?

Tachiyomi Removes Extensions List

I know Tachiyomi (and associated forks) are a popular way to browse and read manga within the community (myself included). This change means that the Tachiyomi app will no longer include access to installation of all but a select few extensions. Specifically, the only extensions allowed going forward are the "bring-your-own" services. You can see the new extension list here.

Based on some of my searching, this change seems to be in response to the threat of legal action by Kakao Entertainment (a Korean webtoon company). Tachiyomi had recently removed a couple extensions from their app (mangadex being one of them), but this change is sweeping.

Going forward, if you have extensions currently installed on your device, they are going to stay there, but will no longer be maintained. So, if something breaks for the service it is communicating with, then the whole thing breaks.

The latest version of Tachiyomi added the ability to add external extension
