As a counter I think he believes in Mercantilism. Its the only way the "tariffs" he said existed make sense. They are a percentage of our trade deficit, and all trade deficit is bad.

The problem is to correct the deficit you have to get those places to either A) buy more from the US or B) buy less from them. And trade is not a zero sum game.

Trump sees trade through a mercantilism lens. Any trade deficit we have is bad by default and the deficit is how bad we are "ripped off" by importing that countries goods. The only way to "fix" the imbalance is for them to import more of our goods.

The clean cr i believe had a provision in it that declared the remainder of congress 1 long day so they cant even force a vote on the emergency tariffs because they have to be in effect 15 days and they stopped counting at 14. So no they cant do shit about it
