International Criminal Court Prosecutor Requests Warrants for Netanyahu and Hamas Leaders
  • I agree with most of your comment except this:

Hamas using civilians, hospitals, schools, and so on as sheilds is by design, not logistics.

Just open up Google maps and look at Gaza. It might be intent, but it's also logistics. There is hardly any space that isn't occupied, and the majority of that is right against the border so not suitable for use by militarized group with inferior power. You don't "play fair" when your enemy is hundreds of times stronger than you.

Also, I do want to point out that a large bit of why there's conflict is because Europeans coming to Israel purchased farms in the region. These farms were traditionally worked by Muslims, and this continued for a while. At some point they agreed to only hire Jews, making it so the Muslim people, who had survived by working on farms, no longer could make a living. This is how they started to become displaced and also when the violence started. Hamas exists because of this, and because Jews wanted to get rid of them. Sure, Hamas wants to do the same, but they were put into the position they're in. Israel chose their position.

Im "sympathetic" to Hamas in that I try to understand the history of it and the reasons for conflict existing. They're goals are horrible and their methods suck, but I don't fault the kid on the playground throwing sand in their bully's eyes because it isn't fair. Yeah, Hamas shouldn't exist, and hopefully they don't some day. They exist because of Israel's actions and choices though. You don't get to cause issues and then complain about the consequences without being called out. Hopefully a solution is set up where the Hamas doesn't have power anymore, but that requires fixing the causes of the problems.

  • I don't agree with Hamas (I really don't have an opinion because I don't know much about them, and what I know is biased as fuck), but I can't totally fault them.

First, them fighting back is probably necessary, or they probably wouldn't exist.

Second, they're fighting a much stronger force. Conventional warfare, even if possible, wouldn't work. They'd be destroyed in an instant.

Third, they're in one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Everything they do must involve civilians. They don't have a choice but to "use civilians as body shields" (as Israel says) because there's almost literally no space that isn't occupied by civilians.

Hamas's actions and methods are out of necessity because of the situation Israel placed them in. They were also propped up by Israel. Israel is essentially to blame for all of it at the end. Hamas's leaders probably should be held to account just to ensure people can't argue unfairness, but if things don't change they'll be replaced.

  • I don't know anything about this either, but yes, It would be, as this seems to be an actual historical Japanese person who existed and was from Africa. Sure, Japan is pretty culturally homogeneous, but not totally. If they're upset about their actual history then they have a fucking issue. It's one character.

  • Norway has some surprising stats
  • There's two ways to count things. You can measure total consumption, or consumption per capita (per person). If the group of 100 people eats 1000 tacos, you could report it as 1000 tacos eaten, or 10 tacos eaten per capita.

The later is more useful when comparing between groups of different sizes. The US likely consumes more total tacos than Norway, just because the population is so much larger. If we adjust for the size of the population (divide the total by the population size), Norway may be higher —if we assume the OP is correct and this is what they meant.

  • It's their way of implying they're unbiased, but 50/50 comaints doesn't mean unbiased. In fact it probably means there's a bias, if it's about a specific subject only. The facts only is unbiased, but for many people on many subjects, the facts are upsetting.

For example, climate change is real and has been known about for over a century. Reporting on that would be unbiased, but you'd get a lot more complaints from a certain segment of society than another. Managing to get 50/50 means you biased your report to be in the middle. The middle doesn't mean unbiased.

  • Uber's new shuttle service sounds a lot like a bus route
  • The only time I hear shuttle used is for a thing that transports between two locations specifically. A "shuttle" from the airport to a hotel or whatever, for example. This seems to match the definition of shuttle also, so I think it's correct. It has nothing to do with marketing, rather actually using the proper term.

  • Lots of times the restaurants won't even have milk
  • Even then, it's not really accurate anyway. A cocktail is a bunch of ingredients mixes together. You can usually get them without the alcohol if you ask for it (obviously this doesn't work for every drink). They list of cocktails is so large because there's a lot of ways to combine a few ingredients to make different things. They don't actually stock that many types of drinks or anything. They're made on demends, and can usually be modified if you ask.

  • They don't often shoot either. I would agree when they do shoot they tend to hit though. At minimum, it'll be interesting to see what the studio with such a large stream of revenue finally decides to release. Even if it's horrible, it'll be a moment to remember.

  • Images leak of Valve's next game, and it's an Overwatch-style hero shooter
  • This seems reasonably different than the headline implies. It's a hero shooter, in that there are classes based on heroes (like Team Fortress 2 as well). The gameplay is more moba it sounds like. I think I've only played one other moba shooter, and it failed quickly, so that's different already.

It's not a copy of OW, and even if it were it could still innovate. Half Life might be a "Doom Clone", but it did stuff no one had done before. There's plenty of innovation potential without inventing a new genre. Even if you do create a new genre, it's probably still just evolution of existing things. No one ever has an original idea. It's always inspired by their environment.

  • Seeing the Steam store lately I'm honestly surprised there isn't a porn shooter. Imagine if someone went all in making an OW ripoff, but committed to making adult skins. Think about how much money that could make.

  • I'm in VA. For a bit it seems like we would be a future blue state. Now we have a porn ban and Marijuana legalization, which was passed by democrats, has been effectively stalled. Possession is legal, and you can grow a small amount for personal use, but our republican governor blocked the creation of a legal market.

Republicans can get fucked. I hope that this obvious not listening to their constituents costs them in the future, but I'm really not sure. People need to vote, and not just for president.

  • I don't underestimate "good graphics" (usually used to refer to realism) in selling games, but it's heavily overrated. For example, Elden Ring was not the game with the best graphics technically, but damn does it not look gorgeous. A good art style trumps realism any day. Realism sells more copies, because people are told to compare to realism, but it usually sucks. It has its uses, but it's mostly a resource hog to make something that looks generic.

  • They went in for shoes and were forced to leave gay married!
  • I would almost always just call it married, but it makes sense for the post to say gay married, otherwise you don't really know what it's talking about. It would probably need to specify straight if the joke hinged on it being straight as well.

  • Except no one sees the censored thing and doesn't think the word itself. If anything the censor is bringing extra attention to it. It's dumb. If the person posting is scared of the word, they should leave it out. If they're worried other people might fear it then either they should leave it out or not bother censoring because they see it anyway.
