Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.
  • Also, gotta say, I love Lemmy, but it still weirds me out being recognized across multiple communities. Like, noticing the same users in one subreddit over and over, or being recognized in the sub is one thing. But on Lemmy I notice the same names pop up in multiple communities, and have had people continue conversations from one community in another because they recognize the username. It's a weird experience. I feel like I'm in Mayberry. Lol

  • Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.
  • Whoops, yeah, typod that one. Sorry!

  • Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.
  • Made several because instances were going down left and right at one point. Lol. Finally settled on slrpnk, and only ever use this one when I accidently log into it without paying attention.

  • Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.
  • 32f is the same as 0c, and they're both freezing. 0c is the temp at which brine freezes, but nobody really knows/cares about that. Where I live it down to -25f/-31c at least a few times a year, and normally you can expect at least a few weeks to a month below 32f/0c, but the last few years have been mild

  • Wait, my body's own heat is enough? Always has been.
  • Yeah, nah, I'm on the side of the government paying for utilities. Human right to electricity. Figure out a system to prevent overuse, but everyone deserves to have heating and cooling when needed.

That said, definitely wear a sweater in the winter if you can. Acclimate to the season and you'll hate going outside a lot less, and need less heating in the winter. I typically don't heat most of my home in the winter (I don't have central heating). I just use a space heater in whatever room I'm in, and move it to the next room with me, and wear warm clothes. I'm in Tennessee, which routinely gets well below freezing in the winter. Not ideal, but it works

  • Straight men, what's the weirdest thing you've been told you can't do because it's gay?
  • Fun fact, this is why I got laid so much in Mexico. I took so much straight dong on that trip I should have gotten frequent fliers miles

  • Straight men, what's the weirdest thing you've been told you can't do because it's gay?
  • I've mentioned it on here before, I think. It's one of my favorite stories. The look on his face was absolutely horrific and hilarious. I asked him several times afterwards how his pregnant sinuses were. He did not find it as funny as I did.

  • What do you secretly judge people for?
  • But not from Tennessee.

  • I love telling this story, but I'll warn beforehand it's explicit.

! so, one time I was getting a blow job from this dude who was sort of newly out as bi curious. So, he asked if he could suck me off because he'd never done it before. Anyway, when I came, he didn't pull off and decided he was going to swallow, and since he was still really new and nervous, I thought it would be hilarious if I said "no homo" when I came.

Unfortunately, he also thought that was hilarious, and laughed while swallowing. Ever seen milk come out of a kids nose in the cafeteria? That. But with spunk !<

  • I can't find a source right now, because I just woke up and I don't want to, so (Trust Me Bro, et al, 2024) but there's a chance that quote is actually about Nazis!

A lot of French people referred to them as "the others" and would often speak sort of semi-codedly about them in writing and such so as not to piss off their new overlords. So that line may well not have been "I'm such an introvert that being around other humans is like being in hell" but instead "hell has delivered itself to my doorstep in the form of goose-stepping bastards"

  • What do you secretly judge people for?
  • I once had a conversation with a cashier in TN that started with a newspaper by check out saying something about remembrance day in England. I explained it's basically like their version of Memorial Day. It ended with me having to explain what Europe is. A super abridged synopsis:

Me: It's basically their version of Memorial Day.

Her: why do they need a different version?

Me: they're a different country, different laws.

Her: it's not really a different country if you can drive to it

    Me:... What

Her: I mean, it's basically just the same country

Me: you cannot drive to England.

    Her: you can't?

    Me: it's an island.

Her: I thought it was Europe?

Me: you also cannot drive to Europe.

I then had to explain what Europe was, how England is Europe in the same way Puerto Rico is North America. I shouldn't have included that. Or tried to explain armistice day. It was a very long conversation that ended up going outside during her smoke break.

She was the second grown adult I had to explain Europe to. Tennessee has failed it's children, y'all. I'm not being funny, and contrary to OP's premise, I don't really judge them for this. I judge the state and the school system. It's bad.

  • If someone is cleaning a floor and I have to walk over it, they're getting several sorrys and at least 2 thank yous, while I do that shrink my body to the side and putting my palms out towards them like a peasant not trying to be whipped by a landed gentry.

    I've mopped professionally. It sucks.

Yeah, it is. Ended up not being compatible on a new phone is why I switched, I think..forgot about it after.

  • What would you bring to an adult show and tell?
  • Hey, sorry I haven't replied. I switched to a different account (@dharmacurious@slrpnk.net) and haven't checked this one.

I've been doing a lot of sewing. Mainly dog toys and pillows for making life a little more comfy :)

  • Episcopal/Anglican Lemmings?

Hey, folks, I was just curious if there were any Episcopal (USA) lemmings around here? I've recently begun attending a small episcopal church, after having not been to church since the pandemic began. Before that, I'd only been to church a few times in the last couple decades. I've been really enjoying the episcopal church, and while my own personal belief system isn't 100% in line with theirs, they're one of the closest groups to my own thinking.

I liked the episcopal subreddit before I left that site, and was wondering if anyone has any interest in making a Lemmy community, or if there was one I'm not familiar with.

    search within communities?

    Hey, folks.

I'm not sure if this is a Jerboa question or a Lemmy question, but is it possible to (or possible to implement) search within a community?

For instance, on this community, I would have loved to have had a search field to search "search" and it only searched the Jerboa community, so I can make sure I'm not reposting something someone else has already asked. It would make it a lot easier to find information, especially in communities geared towards advice or niche information.

I'm not a techy person, though, so apologies if this is something very difficult to implement or a feature that's already there and I'm overlooking it.

    Thanks!

    Best sampler?

Hey, folks! I'm fairly new to hot teas. I've been very much so enjoying my English and Irish breakfast teas, Earl Grey, and a few other Walmart specials. But I find that I think most of them taste weak, and i use multiple bags. I'd like to try a loose leaf, and maybe something a little stronger. I'm not a fan of green tea for the same reason, it feels weak/watery. I'm a US southerner, so I guess I sort of ruined myself to tea strong enough to get out the pot and slap you. Haha.

Can anyone recommend a sampler of stronger teas? I have a fancy kettle that you can set the temperature on if they need some specific temp, as I know some teas do.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Game Recommendation?

    Edit

Sorry I haven't replied to anyone, life got a little crazy. I did not expect this many replies on lemmy! Thank you everyone, and I will be checking out a bunch of these! Thank you so much. :) I really appreciate it.

So, I hope this allowed, if not, I'll remove.

I have a small problem, y'all. I'm a filthy casual, and don't game often. But right now, due to a lot of very stressful things going on, I'm having trouble sleeping. I'd like a game I can play on the deck for an hour or two at night to get sleepy. Here's where the hard part comes in:

It's gotta be cheap (25 or less)

It needs to be not-stressful to play, as in, it works well on the deck, with no fiddling, because I am a dumb and don't understand things

I don't actually know what kind of game I want. I don't care for FPS games, I don't have the time/patience/money for online multiplayer stuff, and I'm not super in super heavy action games.

I like puzzles, platformers, laid back games. Open world is great. Very small games are fun, but I need something that I can play pretty much every night for a while. I loved portal and the Stanley parable, but I'm burnt out on TSP and I've played both portal games several times. I need something with a little more longevity.

Can anyone help with this not at all reasonable request?

    linking communities

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm curious about something. I've seen there's a big debate about multiple communities for similar content on different instances, and whether they should coalesce into a single community or remain as multiple communities. I also saw a post about linking sibling communities with automatic cross posting and stuff. I'll level with y'all, I understand coding about as much as I understand wtf quantum foam is. So I don't know how likely that is, or how easy it would be to implement.

But why couldn't we just link to sister communities in the community sidebar. Like reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.world could just have a link to reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.ml in the sidebar, and vice versa?

I haven't seen any of the communities I frequent do this, and I just wonder why. If both communities did it, it would likely increase the user base of both, wouldn't it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just loving on lemmy lately, and wish it were easier to quickly find related communities.

    Enterprise era new trek show?

I'm not sure if this is the right community or not, but I'm curious what y'all would think if they came out with a new show set in the Enterprise era. Ent is one of my favorite shows, and I always felt like we got screwed out of some really compelling TV when they ended they stopped making Trek after ENT ended. That era of humanity, the coalition of planets, the filling in of details on humanity's early relationship with the Vulcans. Plus, it has denobulans, and we need more denobulans.

So, I guess I'm just curious if I'm in the minority or not. Would any of y'all be excited if they announced a show in that era?
