What would you bring to an adult show and tell?
  • Hey, sorry I haven't replied. I switched to a different account (@dharmacurious@slrpnk.net) and haven't checked this one.

I've been doing a lot of sewing. Mainly dog toys and pillows for making life a little more comfy :)

  • What if public libraries...
  • Me. I would love to be a third shift librarian.

  • The perk is actually kind of a downgrade
  • I'm not gonna lie, I straight up love taco bell. I avoided it for years and years because of the stereotype about it making you sick or being cheap and gross. Then I was out a few years ago and had 2 dollars in change and an empty belly. That shit was good and no stomach upset. It's now my go to fast food, especially considering it's easy as hell to get veggie options.

Also, gas/bloat is not specific to taco bell, it's fucking beans. Eat anything with beans and you're gonna get gassy. Not directed specifically at you, just anyone who needs to hear this.

  • This is at Jorvik Viking Center.
  • Generally, you should use a cloth tape measure to measure dick. There are instructions online if you look.

Also, 8 inches to the hilt is often not pleasant, so work with your partner and learn how deep your sigmoid colon is, and take it slow. Big ol' dick slamming into a wall is not fun unless you are very particularly into it.

  • I have attempted science.
  • Thanks! That dust on the floor I'm guessing is basically poison, lye and the ashes from other offerings. That's wild.

Is there a verse specific to when life begins? I've read that it's upon drawing breath, but that's the part I haven't been able to find.

  • This is at Jorvik Viking Center.
  • I imagine it was probably larger before it was... Dried out.

Also, 8 inches by 2 inches is pretty fucking large. I say this as someone who has had 8 inches back there.

  • *So far*
  • Link?

  • I have attempted science.
  • Ooh, you don't happen to know a verse for this, do you? I've heard this before and tried to Google it, but my Google fu is lacking and I just end up finding right wing nut job websites.

  • brutalist gf
  • Can you link to any good info (in English) on titoism, then? Because it's the most interesting example of real world socialism to me, but basically no info in English outside of really surface level stuff :(

  • I can't unsee it now
  • ... DAMMIT

  • We've come a long way from the Magna Carta
  • Honestly one of my favorite jokes. I love the stupid horse into a bar format, the misdirect that it's going to be a deep philosophical joke, and the reveal reveal of a dad level pun.

I actually just used this a couple weeks ago in a discussion post for college.1000022068

  • What are some things that used to be expensive, but which no longer are?
  • Not too terribly long ago, clothing was super expensive. Like, make a dress from burlap or old feed sacks instead of buying something expensive. Some companies that sold feed and seed would print floral patterns on the sacks because they knew customers would turn the old sacks into clothing for their children.

  • What are some things that used to be expensive, but which no longer are?
  • I've never thought about VR for fitness. I have a VR that I never use. Any suggestions on an app that isn't expensive? I'm fat and trying to be not fat. Lol

  • Meta just showed off Threads’ fediverse integration for the very first time
  • When you say export, is there a tool for that for, like, mass exporting your subs? Or do I have to manually search each one and sub again?

I ask because I've been meaning to switch to my alt, but I made a point of subbing to as many communities as possible to make Lemmy more fun to use for me, and good lord, it's a lot to do.

  • Jobs that I can study while doing?
  • You can probably search for security jobs on job boards, or ask anyone wearing a shitty guard uniform if they're hiring. If it's the same there, they're always hiring.

  • NSFW
So this is what my upstairs neighbor has been doing all morning
  • Imagine if it just gets a leak in the head and you don't realize. Queef/fart from hell afterwards.

  • Oops
  • Which one do we get the eyes from?

  • Where is a good place to move to?
  • Don't forget the discrimination and frequent unreported assaults on queer folks and people of color!

Tennessee: The volunteer (to give up any reasonable expectation at a decent quality of life) state!

  • Jobs that I can study while doing?
  • This was going to be my suggestion. But even day time is good for this. I did security for 12 years. The vast majority of jobs are sitting on your ass watching movies on your phone. Couple tips if you go the security route:

Security is different in each US state (if you're in another country this whole thing is gonna be meaningless). In some states it requires a 40 hour course, in others a 10 minute training class. it varies widely, find out what your states guidelines are.

If you get certed for security, you'll never want for a shitty, low paying job. If you get fired, there's another job around the corner. But, contracts change a lot, so don't get too attached to any one post.

Gate guard is primo. You normally get a shack, you're normally alone, and you normally deal with people only during shift changes. That means 6 hours of an 8 hour shift are totally yours.

    Hospital security SUCKS.

If you need extra cash, concerts and other events pay well, and you get to listen to live music for free.

If you live anywhere with Weather™ put a change of clothes, food, sleeping bag and other gear in your car. I once got stuck on a post, snowed in, for 4 days.

Keep shit in your car in general. A steam deck is awesome, a switch is good.

If you're on a post with another person, like 2 guards in a tiny shack for 8 hours, make sure you're upfront about if you're an intro/extrovert. Most guards have been doing it for long enough that they truly don't care if you don't wanna speak at all in 8 hours, they just wanna know up front where their plans should be. Nothing more irritating than thinking you're gonna have a friend for a day and end up bored because you didn't bring your stuff with you (which is why you should keep it in your car), or thinking you're going to have a day to catch up on school/video games/shows and you can't get 5 minutes to yourself because the other guard won't STFU

You are not a cop. Don't act like a cop. You aren't even Paul blart. You're a person in a uniform made of old trash bags whose whole job is to get an insurance discount for the company you're posted at

The guard shack almost never has cameras, and for some reason, people on tinder/Grindr are freaking wild about hooking up in a guard shack

ETA: only thing better than gate guard is posts where they want you to park your own car and sit in it for your shift. You just sit in your car all day/night. Which means your own sound system, and basically everything you wanna bring with you at your fingertips. It's awesome.

Also, midsize semi local security companies are better. Securitas and similar companies are kinda shitty, and the really small ones are always, like, weirdly militant. If you happen to be in Tennessee or Virginia I can probably hook you up with a company that'll get you a good post.

  • Oh, Zot! Nomadic Identity is Coming to ActivityPub
  • Anyway you could give me an ELI5 on what a nomadic identity is?

  • search within communities?

    Hey, folks.

I'm not sure if this is a Jerboa question or a Lemmy question, but is it possible to (or possible to implement) search within a community?

For instance, on this community, I would have loved to have had a search field to search "search" and it only searched the Jerboa community, so I can make sure I'm not reposting something someone else has already asked. It would make it a lot easier to find information, especially in communities geared towards advice or niche information.

I'm not a techy person, though, so apologies if this is something very difficult to implement or a feature that's already there and I'm overlooking it.

    Thanks!

    Best sampler?

Hey, folks! I'm fairly new to hot teas. I've been very much so enjoying my English and Irish breakfast teas, Earl Grey, and a few other Walmart specials. But I find that I think most of them taste weak, and i use multiple bags. I'd like to try a loose leaf, and maybe something a little stronger. I'm not a fan of green tea for the same reason, it feels weak/watery. I'm a US southerner, so I guess I sort of ruined myself to tea strong enough to get out the pot and slap you. Haha.

Can anyone recommend a sampler of stronger teas? I have a fancy kettle that you can set the temperature on if they need some specific temp, as I know some teas do.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Game Recommendation?

    Edit

Sorry I haven't replied to anyone, life got a little crazy. I did not expect this many replies on lemmy! Thank you everyone, and I will be checking out a bunch of these! Thank you so much. :) I really appreciate it.

So, I hope this allowed, if not, I'll remove.

I have a small problem, y'all. I'm a filthy casual, and don't game often. But right now, due to a lot of very stressful things going on, I'm having trouble sleeping. I'd like a game I can play on the deck for an hour or two at night to get sleepy. Here's where the hard part comes in:

It's gotta be cheap (25 or less)

It needs to be not-stressful to play, as in, it works well on the deck, with no fiddling, because I am a dumb and don't understand things

I don't actually know what kind of game I want. I don't care for FPS games, I don't have the time/patience/money for online multiplayer stuff, and I'm not super in super heavy action games.

I like puzzles, platformers, laid back games. Open world is great. Very small games are fun, but I need something that I can play pretty much every night for a while. I loved portal and the Stanley parable, but I'm burnt out on TSP and I've played both portal games several times. I need something with a little more longevity.

Can anyone help with this not at all reasonable request?

    linking communities

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'm curious about something. I've seen there's a big debate about multiple communities for similar content on different instances, and whether they should coalesce into a single community or remain as multiple communities. I also saw a post about linking sibling communities with automatic cross posting and stuff. I'll level with y'all, I understand coding about as much as I understand wtf quantum foam is. So I don't know how likely that is, or how easy it would be to implement.

But why couldn't we just link to sister communities in the community sidebar. Like reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.world could just have a link to reallycoolawesomestuff@lemmy.ml in the sidebar, and vice versa?

I haven't seen any of the communities I frequent do this, and I just wonder why. If both communities did it, it would likely increase the user base of both, wouldn't it?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just loving on lemmy lately, and wish it were easier to quickly find related communities.

    Enterprise era new trek show?

I'm not sure if this is the right community or not, but I'm curious what y'all would think if they came out with a new show set in the Enterprise era. Ent is one of my favorite shows, and I always felt like we got screwed out of some really compelling TV when they ended they stopped making Trek after ENT ended. That era of humanity, the coalition of planets, the filling in of details on humanity's early relationship with the Vulcans. Plus, it has denobulans, and we need more denobulans.

So, I guess I'm just curious if I'm in the minority or not. Would any of y'all be excited if they announced a show in that era?
