Biden’s China Tariffs Are the End of an Era for Cheap Chinese Goods
  • for the quip about steel aluminum, the Steel tariff won't change much given that it's just matching the tariff steel got back in 2018 under Trump, the aluminum one though is going from 10>25% reletive to the one in 2018. Neither caused hyper inflation at the time.

  • Activision unveil new studio working on ‘narrative AAA franchise’, days after Microsoft shut Prey and Evil Within devs
  • for microsoft, 2 of the dev atudios shut down were mobile, one of them merging into besthesda. the other two, Arkane Austin, released a really terrible game last year, the other which caused the uproar, Tango Gameworks, created a popular game. Though personally I think that closed down because the original director who created the company left, and it would be hard for microsoft to merge the team elsewhere due to being japanese based, so they shut down the studio, despite recent sucess. Microsoft probably has little experience hiring a new game director for japan.

  • Small, well-built Chinese EV called the Seagull poses a big threat to the US auto industry
  • keep in mind the price is not entirely indictive of the true cost when sold on a different country. BYD Dolphins had to be modified for international saftey standards, so the actual cost is higher than stated. While the cars will still be cheaper than "budget" cars like the model 3, Chevy bolt, nissan leaf and such after rebate, its not going to be the 12000 asking price.

  • Marvel Rivals states that the non disparagement clause in their contract was a "miscommunication".
  • essentially its similar to product sponsorships and product reviews. Product sponsorships give the sponsor all the power to censor parts they dont like. Reviews should be honest and reveal something is good or bad.

they tried to say in order yo get into beta you can only say good stuff, so any online footage is similar to a sponsorship rather than an honest review

  • Nearly all Nintendo 64 games can now be recompiled into native PC ports to add proper ray tracing, ultrawide, high FPS, and more
  • unique hardware that doesnt follow the conventions of standard hardware, so you have to write code to get around that fact. Take for example one of the reason why Wii/GC development went fast eas because the PowerPC processor is fairly well documented, similar to the Tegra X1 with the switch. Its always obscure hardware that makes hardware emulation harder (e.g PS3, Sega Saturn)

  • ASUS Scammed Us
  • I basically always tell people, if you're buying Asus(in the U.S), youre essentially buying something new in box, but essentially considered used. Treat it as if its open box sale, because they will fight tooth and nail to attempt to deny your warranty.

Its a problem at various levels, primarily with the major Taiwanese Brick and Mortar companies. The sad part is how ubiquitous they are when it comes to the DIY portion of PC building.

  • ‘Fantastic Four’ Casts Ralph Ineson as Galactus
  • they eventually have to cast doom else they couldnt do secret wars, as Doom is unequivocally essential for the event to happen/conclude. The Doom casting imo has to be heavily scrutinized due to how major the character will eventually be for the universe.

  • AMD takes CPU market share from Intel in desktops and servers, but Intel fights back in laptops
  • its less consumers, its more on intel handling logistics better than AMD. the FAR majority of laptops being purchased are business laptops, and AMD has a prpblem where they take orders, but take several months to complete them for some customers (which means lost sales and profit) whereas Intel is usually better at handling supply when purchased.

its only (supposedly) going to flip soon as laptop oems supposedly do not like Meteor Lakes performance, and Lunar lakes major design change is going to be quite the gamble.

  • Do you consider Lemmy/Reddit (and similar platforms) to be social media?
  • yes, but the key difference is how its. typically used. reddit/lemmy is generally following specific topics while other forms of social media tend to follow specific people or organizations

so yes, both imo are forms of social media, but brcause of how you interact more with it is different, it feels like it's not the same.

  • Removed
    c/unixsocks for more
  • using a computer traditionally was seen as a secretary job, so it was often dominated by women. its only as of post consumer computer events where a lot more males went into the field due to the large market it offers came in.
