What was your first operating system or Linux Distribution?
  • Commodore basic on the PET computer, back around 1981-1983. My grade school had three of them in the library, and since my mom was a teacher, she would sign one out for summer break and bring it home if any were available.

  • I have 2 dozen eggs to use up
  • Yup, Michigan originally. Hash browns were certainly a good addition. My mom would make casseroles to use up extras in the fridge, and it seemed pretty common with my friends' families as well. She would also do bread pudding, which is like a baked french toast. Lots of bread, eggs, cinnamon and nutmeg, and raisins. Would warm up a piece and eat with maple syrup for breakfast.

  • I have 2 dozen eggs to use up
  • My family used to make breakfast casseroles. A dozen eggs, crumbled cooked sausage, cheddar cheese, and bread cut into cubes. Beat eggs together with a little milk, salt and pepper. Pour over the bread cubes and sausage mixed together in a large glass dish. Sprinkle cheese on top, and bake at 325F until done. You can also add onion and peppers, or whatever sounds good. Sorry, don't exactly have a recipe, would just throw together whatever we had around. It was a good way of using up lots of eggs, and it could be cut up and frozen for breakfasts for the week.

  • Do you install linux on old laptops?
  • Not a laptop, but I had an old motherboard from over 20 years ago not doing anything. Screwed it to a board on the wall of my shop. Added an old hard drive and some components out of the same old box it was in, and now have it running Mint. Found an old wifi card that works too, so I can look up parts and repair videos while I'm working on projects. Works great.

  • They came for Florida’s sun and sand. They got soaring costs and a culture war.
  • Wife and I ended up in Tampa early 2006. No state tax, but man, they made up for it there in fees and licensing for everything imaginable. Seemed like a lot of service industry jobs and trades all required you to get a local license. Heck, even the gals working in strip clubs were required to get a license to perform. I know some skilled trade jobs typically required licenses, but Florida just seemed to go out of their way to try to squeeze lower and middle class workers who were just trying to get by.

  • Wait, not like that
  • I wish the US had made the switch to metric back in the 70's. I remember having to learn it in grade school, and there seemed to be a push for it, but never went anywhere. I now work as a chemist where everything is done in metric, but then go back to US measures once I punch out for the day. Would be nice to have a single system instead.

  • [Game] West of Loathing
  • I picked up a copy of this last night and played a couple hours. Definitely entertaining. I've quickly collected a pack full of odd and random stuff that I hope becomes useful eventually. My little snake buddies don't seem to be good for much. If they don't die in the first attack wave of a fight, they whiff their attack, then die in round two. I guess their sacrifice saves me from a few points of damage if nothing else.

  • Creating parts on demand

I love that having a 3d printer means you can create custom parts when you need them. I wanted a set of leveling brackets for a router table insert. Sketched up something in Solid Edge, sent it to the printer and a few hours later I have what I need. Nothing complex but functional. Used PETG on this set. ! !

Connect changing default color scheme for phone

I was looking at the settings for Connect, hit "Save Settings" before closing, and now some of my phone's default colors have changed. I have lime green and mint for random text in different applications. Using a Google Pixel 7 Pro. Anyone else notice this?
